Club Captain

I am pleased to announce that the captain for the South London Poker Club for the season will be Mike Bodman.

Blatant brag photo obviously  ;D , but Mike won the inaugural APAT Razz event during the WCOAP at The Vic in season two.  He is a fantastic supporter of APAT and I am really pleased he will be Club Captain for South London.

Many thanks,

Leigh

Thanks for the kind words.

South London is looking good already. Nigel Johnson - 4th in Dublin last year, final table at the Vic in the Worlds and  bubbled the Final Table at the Pro-am in Luton. Not a bad record!  Also Tim Magnus Welsh Open Champion from Season Two is now on board, welcome Tim.

Come on Guys & Girls you know it makes sense.

South London FTW.

The South London Team now boasts two more Apat National Championship Medalists. With Welsh Open Champion Tim Magnus already on board we now have the full set with:-

Glenn Laming Runner-up in the Scottish Open - Season Two

Jeldon Fernandes Third in the Welsh Open - Season Two

We may be small in numbers at the moment, but we certainly aren"t lacking quality.

Seems many of the other clubs are adopting nick names. I"ll start the suggestions with "the head hunters" ( obvious chelsea link ) lets have some more suggestions and we can have a vote on it.

Nick names aren"t going to go very far in marketing terms.... the push is for the establishment of credible local clubs to aim for a live League in S4.  Head Hunters isn"t going to cut it for any of us!  No pun intended :D

I think the idea was an informal jest betweem teams and not intended as an official alternative to any future marketing arrangements.

Trying to work out what would be the right team for Richard and I to join. Bricks and mortar wise - is the Vic south or north London? Then also the Western is easy for us to get to...

Is North of the M4 North London and South of the M4 South London?

help............................... confusion reigns  ???

Linda,

I would suggest you could choose either North or South London as your location is pretty much in the middle.

I"ll leave that up to you as both are looking strong for the season.  I look forward to your signing up posts.   ;D

Hi Linda, I would be delighted for you and Richard to join the South London Team. Your track record in Apat events speaks for itself and having played (live) on the same table as you on a few occasions I know what a great asset you and Richard would be. (is that enough crawling)

Mike, maybe we should find someway of settling this. If everyone is going to be in Walsall we could try North London v South London in the following:

1) Arm Wrestling
2) Yard of Ale speed drinking
3) Whichever team has the last man standing in the main event

The winner would then be entered into a binding contract with Mr and Mrs Iwaniak for their services for the coming season. How does that sound Herr capitano?

Not trying to get out of any friendly competition against our rivals from North London (I know its tongue in cheek), I think Leigh is right that Linda & Richard should make their own choice. Saying that when the league starts on the 1st Feb I anticipate quite a bit of banter will be flying around. Looking forward to it.

Have I missed anyone? or any others still trying to get a seat.

Right folks the password for League, which starts next week 1st Feb, has been announced. The word you need to remember for the whole of the season is leaguepl.

May I suggest if you are going to play next week that you sign up ASAP. The reason I say this is just incase you have any problems with registering you will have time to resolve them before the competition starts. Also if you are out and about next week and get home late you won"t miss out.

COME ON SOUTH LONDON YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU!

Southern is correct.

The National league is split into three divisions (North, Central, South) with the top teams from each meeting up in a Grand Final.

Hi Dave.

The only tactics I have are to make the final table at all costs. Soft playing is frowned upon and Apat will take a very dim view if anyone is caught. I hope all teams will play these events in the true spirit of Apat and I"m sure they will.

Good luck on Sunday.

Just to echo what Boddddders has said, although it is a team tournament, the prizes will be won for individual performances, in that there is prize money at stake in every round for players to play for, and the top four individuals from each team will get the opportunity to play in the final for the four GUKPT seats, so there is very little room for any softplay.

On top of that, APAT is all about playing hard but fair, so our guidelines are very clear.

Finally, and not APAT orientated, you would not want to fall foul of the Blue Square compliance team, who monitor their cardroom for soft play.  If they pick anyone out, accounts will be frozen and players banned.

Well done Nigel (CH3LS3A) and Tim (timothymagnus) 6th and 2nd respectively.

I make that 2nd in the points behind Southampton (3rd & 4th) with Cardiff 3rd (10th & 1st)

Southampton  15 points
South London  14   "
Cardiff            11   "
Bristol              9    "
North London    6    "

That means 3 points for Soton  2 for South London and 1 for Cardiff. (only my calculations though)

Well played all the South London team great effort tonight. More of the same in a fortnights time.

Right I thought I"d do a little run down on how we all fared last night in the First Leg of the Online League.  Of course I am delighted that we secured 2 points for finishing second and had an excellent turn-out (18). We had a few players who didn"t play last night, some of them have PM"d me and they will be available for the next game. Tim and Nigel (The Stacked-Up Boys) did us proud finishing 2nd & 6th and we also had Denis (BSDEN67) in the top 20. With half the field, of 132 runners, departed we still had 11 of our team involved. Unfortunately we lost 7 of those by the time we reached the last 48 and things were starting to look difficult. Still we came through and have a good base on which to build in the coming weeks.
Remember there are still 19 weeks left and we will all have a part to play in securing the Southern Region Title for the South London Team.

I know some of you have questioned the structure used in last nights competition. This is being looked into by Apat, so keep an eye on the forum for any annoucements.

All the best for the next game on the 15th Feb.

Mike.

Well played Tim and Nigel! Sorry I wasn"t able to give much support, never really got going and after the first break was into push/fold territory which was always gonna come unstuck sooner or later.

No problems Neil, as I have said before this is a 20 week competition and there will be weeks when we come unstuck. The South London team has a lot of good very good players and I"m confident we will finish in the top three of what is a very tough Southern Region.

Good luck Sunday.

Leg Two - 15th February

What a great performance from the team on Sunday evening. We secured 13 points thanks to the efforts of Spartan13 - Jeldon Fernandes 3rd place and BSDEN67 - Denis Corcoran 6th place which was enough to give us first position and the 3 points. This along with our 2nd place finish in Leg One now sees us sitting top of the Southern Division with 5 points. Of course there is still a long, long way to go but what a fantastic start. Also pleasing was the high turnout (19 out of 25 registered members) as other teams in our division seem to be recruiting more players its important we continue to support these events to give us the maximum chance of maintaining our lead.

Good Luck and see you all on the 1st March for Leg 3.

This time he has a hand, QQ, neither improve. Down to 700 chips. Next hand all in with  tc td , called by  th 9c, 9 on the flop and river. FML.

Right folks leg Four is this Sunday 15th March at 8pm as usual. The password is leaguepl, the same as previous weeks. Leg 3 saw a dip in numbers and we unfortunately had no one on the final table (despite the fact that I gave over 4,000 chips to fellow South London members). I will be away for the weekend in Cornwall watching the mighty Reds take on Truro City in a Southern League game and wont be back until about 7pm on Sunday. Therefore this is my last call to arms before battle commences on Sunday. So come on get signed up and lets increase our lead at the top of the table.

Mike

Well played everyone. Great turnout for Easter Sunday.

Very tight tonight and we finished 3rd on a count back and secured another point.

Which means its a three way tie at the top of the league between ourselves, Cardiff and Plymouth.

See you all in a fortnight

Thanks Jeldon. Long long way to go yet and I wouldn"t wright any of the teams off. With 14 weeks still to go we need all team members to make a big effort and play as many legs as possible. I know quite a few of the team have played every Round so far, which is fantastic, hopefully your efforts will be rewarded come the end of the season.

p.s when can I have your card protector again for good luck?   :)

And they say poker is a game of skill.... Anybody who was on my table saw this and everyone at the casino must have heard about it. Dan raises blind (UTG) as he was on tilt, and somehow manages a flop of  ks ac :as:, goes all the way down to the river only for Dan to show  ad1 ah. Who needs skill when you got luck like that???? See you at the next tourney Dan. Don"t forget the card protector......

A great effort last night from everyone and well done (again) to Tim Magnus on another final table. From what I saw we seemed to have a lot of bad variance towards the later stages of the tourney. Numbers have been down over the last few weeks so if we can get as many of our team as possible to play, we will have a great chance of qualifying for the grand final.

COME ON SOUTH LONDON!

With the halfway point reached in the League its time to look at how things stand.

A great turnout last night (13) of 60, we must look to carry on this commitment for the second half of the season, gave us a good foundation to secure another top three finish. A superb allround team performance saw us with three players at the final table. TheBigSting, Shaun Herran, finished 3rd myself 7th and Tim Magnus 9th to give us 2nd behind Cardiff, who had another very good night at the tables. This leaves us in 2nd position in the table as we enter the home straight. The top three teams in the League qualify for the final, with the top four individual points scorers representing their team.

This is how things stand:

timothymagnus   Tim Magnus         23 points
Honeycroft         Mike Bodman       16
MarkyPB            Mark Brady          10
Spartan13          Jeldon Fernandes   8
Rabsie67            Neil Innes             8
TheBigSting        Shaun Herran        8
Spuded              Emily Curzon         7
CH3LS3A            Nigel Johnson        5
BSDEN67            Denis Corcoran      5
daveyb147         Dave Butler           5

So with 10 games to go its all still to play for. Also don"t forget IF we make and then win the final and qualify for the GUKPT event, 20% of any prize money won will go to players who have scored points during the season.

See you on the 21st - COME ON SOUTH LONDON!

Rather annoying last night to find SL 5/6 handed on the same table, especially when down to the last couple of tables and the other one didn"t have a player with more than 10Ks worth of chips! If we were spread about a bit more evenly we could have done some real damage as everybody (and I"ll include myself in that) was playing well.

Congrats to the guys who made the final table.

That was a good effort last night. Two or three more wins from our remaining fixtures and that top 3 spot should be ours.

Great effort once again last night guys and girls. Well done to Tim on making his 5th final table of the season (and he"s only played in 8 rounds) and Neil on a fantastic 2nd place, thus securing us top spot and three more league points.

This cements our 2nd place in the league and as Tim has already said a few more wins over the next 9 rounds should see us secure a top three finish. We must however not become complacent and continue the high turnout we have had so far.

COME ON SOUTH LONDON.

Mike

A couple more scoring points and I am sure that will get us into the final!

Yes very well done indeed last night Phil (Spudandjosh). Your individual third place gave us 2nd spot behind Cardiff last night and two more valuable league points. Although Cardiff are doing very well at the moment we are only two points behind them in the table and with 8 rounds still to go there"s everything to play for.

A reminder that Round 13 takes place in three weeks time on Sunday July 26th, as the live Scottish National is on the weekend of the 18th & 19th July.

Unlucky Denis, keep getting "em in good and your luck will change.

Bad night for SL, we had the most players (10) but no one on the final table. However, we are almost there (top 3 finish) with only 4 games to go we are still second and 10 points clear of 4th placed Bristol. Remember the top four individual points scorers will represent SL in the final. Best of luck to everyone in the last four games.

I agree. For individual members it was a bad result but overall it was a fantastic result. Bristol failing to score last night means baring a near miracle we have a final spot.

Sorry for not playing in the last few, had a wedding last night so was unable to make it! Will try to ensure that I am around in two weeks time to see us into the final! :-)

Not that I wish to be picky, but I"m going to be.

23 South London
16 Bristol
15 Plymouth

Three matchdays to go.  If South London don"t get anymore points and Bristol finish 1st, 2nd, 2nd (7 pts) and Plymouth finish 2nd, 1st, 1st (8 pts), then all three teams would have 23 points and I will be flicking through rule books and getting my calculator out.

It is highly unlikely, but there is a chance.   ;D
