Title: "Home Game Challenge" - Scottish Championships
Post by: Honeybadg on July 01, 2009, 23:29:20 PM
... over the last couple of I"ve read a few posts on the strongest home game ... so I thought I would lay down the gauntlet for the Scottish Championships.

"My" old London home game has three runners in the Scottish Championships.

So the challenge is for a named team of three to beat our combined finishes.

1-18 pts for the top 18 finishers (1st -18 etc ... 18th = 1pt)

Happy to take on "Vitrual Home Games" ...

My team : The HOOPER STREET MASSIVE

Gareth Derbyshire
Charles Sanderson
Louis Manson

... I look forward to the challengers ...

Coincidentally there"s three people from a home game I hold occassionally playing in the Scottish Championship. Haven"t asked the guys yet but i"m sure we"d be up for a bit of a challenge. Our names are:

Chris O"Connor (Me ;D)
Kevin Gallagher
Gordon Casey

Was thinking though, IIRC the Scottish Champs only have around 150 runners so why not score backwards like you said but make it from 150th-1st instead of just top 18 so we get a true score which includes all team members as with scoring only the top 18 you"ll possibly only get one person at most scoring for a team to take it down (obviously me when I ship it :D)...?

I am one of the Hooper Street Massive. I shall bring my medals to wave at the opposition...

As to the points scoring, I think the issue was trying to work out exactly which place those early eliminations might be.

I suppose we could use time of departure instead in some way...

Does that mean you are giving us odds to beat you?  ;)

Do you have any other runners in Edinburgh?

Looking forward to it.

Open on the scoring system ... assuming it works ... as Charles says it may be difficult to get an exact position for early exits ... could be points for day 2 survival ... not sure how many are likely to go through to day 2 (might just be the 18??) ... starting with a smaller field ... how many went through to day 2 in Wales/Ireland?

You (the BCPC) have had a tremendous S3 ... were you all involved S1 and S2? This is first year I have been involved ... though my team mate Charles Sanderson has APAT form ... in S2.

there were a few of us in S2, and probably one or two in S1, but I don"t think there was the success that we"ve had this year. BCPC has only been going for a few months though...

Other BCPC members playing in Edinburgh are:
Matt McKinlay
Max McKinlay
Tod Wood
Tony Trippier

7 in all - gotta get at least one on to FT to keep the season"s run going!!

Yeah I suppose the early exits might be hard to get an exact finishing place. How about doing top 50 then? As from around there people more or less know exact finishing positions - 1pt for 50th all the way to 50pts for 1st? Could get a few teams involved. Three players per team ("B" teams allowed)...

Are we playing for pride or sticking in a couple of £ per team?

Can someone who has played more of these comment on whether you would get an accurate top 50?

When I posted initially it was for "the glory" of winning ... but a few pounds could be put in a pot if people wanted to.

You"ll struggle to get an accurate "busted" list on day one.

I would suggest you award points for all day two finishers.  You will have chip counts at end of day one also.

Day Two numbers will vary, but should be around the 25-30 mark

Great work I think this is the correct solution ... so let"s got for all Day 2 Runners scoring ... e.g. if 25 make it points are 1-25 ...

Cheers

Last longer?

7 people max.
£12.50 each to be paid to the winner after event (via a poker site or kitty could be collected at start)
6 x £12.50 = £75 (APAT entry back)

Who"s in?

1. Chris O"Connor
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

i have a great idea for a last longer bet. We all put £75 in a kitty, and the person who lasts longest gets £3000 (and some bits and pieces), and the balance of the cash is shared amongst some other people who last a long time, but not quite as long as the person who lasted longest.

Ok. ..  My Team. .  . Welsh Wonders. !  !

It should be clear to all that the quality of poker in Cardiff is leagues ahead of everywhere else in the uk, so as we have such a hotbed of talent here, seems silly not to enter this and settle any discussion once and for all !!!!

My picks.  ..

Richard Rudling-Smith (rudders) Needs no introduction ........... Consistent performer, just can"t work out how????
Dylan Herbert (buffenberger) Never wastes a chip. Fearless, exacting ....and a complete card rack! !
Dan Owston (undisputed) Questionable pick  here.... but as i"m picking the team ..i"m playing..(or i"m taking my ball with me ) ! !

All from the "F**k poker, let"s just get steamin" HOME GAME.

also, our plane gets into Edinburgh @ 13.50....... failing any delays, so bound to outlast a few by missing the start .. . theres the +ev i was looking for !!  ;) ;) ;)

Money OR pride. . . . or BOTH ! ! happy to go along with whatever is decided !!

I am happy to run for money or glory.

If for money - I would be happy to run the bet and hold the cash.

Will it be clear who has won on the day?

Or should I transfer via Pokerstars etc ... or direct to banks (all fine) ... the following week once the result is clear?

The only "issue" I see here is if I (or the money holder) gets killed on day 1 or early day 2 ... don"t want to be playing pass the parcel  as people are eliminated (and leave).

Thoughts?

Decide an amount. . .and how to be distributed. . . .  . ..

Maybe take money ($50 per team of 3. . . . .about £10 per head) seems a fun and reasonable amount. . . . every team transfers you the money on stars pre-event.....

you distribute prizes agreed on the monday . . .transfer back on stars ??  ?

minimum hassle for you, and more beer drinking time freed up for the weekend  ? ?

Yes - I mean winning team ...

I am very happy for Leigh to hold the money ... but it might cause a different problem if the winners score few points and disappear without collecting the money ... or result not clear ...

I suppose we should also say what happens with ties ... does it go to the team with the highest individual finish?

I think that the easiest way would be via pokerstars to be paid before the event and collected on the Monday once the dust has settled. Saves any hassle on the day I think. And in the event of a tie I think that"d be a fair way to settle it.

Now all we need to do is get confirmed teams, my team is a definite go!

Right team challenge apart.

I"m suggesting 2 pounds each or £5 if not too many runners. All money gets put onto roulette. Winnings split 2 ways.
Half goes into a drinks kitty and the other half goes to the first player to lose a hand to quads, must goto the river though.
If this does not happen, all monies to the beer fund.

Ah what if the roulette bet loses, i hear you ask.

Well..............You lose 2 quid.  Neil you did say the more ridiculous the better, and i think this covers all the bases :o

BTW player who loses to quads, and not wins with them, would take half the kitty ;D

Right team challenge apart.

I"m suggesting 2 pounds each or £5 if not too many runners. All money gets put onto roulette. Winnings split 2 ways.
Half goes into a drinks kitty and the other half goes to the first player to lose a hand to quads, must goto the river though.

I like this idea . . . . . . . and am defo in ! ! !

However, how about the 2nd half of the kitty doesn"t go to the quads loser, but the first guy to win a pot with 7 2, however the pot MUST get to a showdown:-)

I like my idea, as i"m hoping nobody wins and Sunday night will be an even bigger drinkfest. Hopefully get more people together in one gathering, bigger laughs, more bets on spec etc.........Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, everyones a winner.

Yours is a very good/funny but seperate idea, also got to be careful so as not to diminish the seriousness of the Championship. Would be hilarious though 148 people all playing 7-2, 9-4 etc, hey Scouse your in matey...hehe. :D

That"s always the risk when prop bets are mentioned (ooops, that was me wasn"t it?)

Last longers are pretty standard and good fun. Someone standing up and shouting / bragging to his pal across the room that he"s taken someone out with 72o ... not so player-friendly. Obviously we can"t stop folk doing it but let"s just stick to Last Longer type stuff on here. When I said "redic", it was more non-poker ones like "holding a pee in for 3 hours" and "that foreign waitress will never get that order right" type of bets that I"ve been known to get involved in (oh, and WIN!)
