3 The name Bolton derives from the Old English bothel and tun, meaning a "settlement with a special building"
There, learn something new every day
So tomorrow at 2.30 the APAT English Amateur Championships begin and I will be there, M6 and M60 permitting, to record all the action on here. Please join me throughout the weekend

Former winners of this are
Daniel Kinboshi Phillips, at the Broadway, Birmingham
Richard RichEO Offless at Grosvenor Walsall
I remember both events well. I was at the final table of both.
Rich has since gone professional and can be found tilting assorted ladies on North-West cash games most evenings.
Daniel has gone even more amateur, and indeed his win at the Broadway represented his last cash in any poker tournament. He is APAT's own David Ulliott, only minus the syrup. So far. Never a day goes by without him mentioning his victory, whilst his audience nods catatonically and metronomically.
Anyway, competition time
Rather than picking a winner, or final table placers, something a little different
Here are three APAT stalwarts. Almost guaranteed not to final table. Let"s hope Leigh doesn"t, after all who would do all the work then?
Daniel Phillips
Leigh Wiltshire
Ian Burnett
You have to give me their combined finishing position.
ie 1st+ 45th + 178th = 224
The poster who guesses closest wins Dinner for two, courtesy of Des (no one tell him) at the G Casino Luton restaurant during the APAT Europeans next month.
Whoever guesses furthest away wins two dinners for two....(joke)
So, see some of you tomorrow, and get guessing.....
-
1+2+3 = 6
-
I"ve got no imagination, so I"ll go erm 224. ;D
-
128+134+110 = 372

lol at guessing same as previous post
-
171+118+56 = 345
-
311.. ish.. :-\
-
32nd, 108th and 153rd for a total of 293
-
I"m guessing that this means when we get knocked out we can"t slip away quietly and moan about bad beats in the bar ?

As my wife OFTEN tells me, it"s the hometown of Tony Knowles (80s also-ran snooker player who nearly won something once) who happens to be her sporting hero.

Good aftern0on and welcome to Bolton
Bolton wasn"t exactly showing off its charms to me as I made my way this morning through driving horizontal rain from hotel to casino
Once here though, wow! This is one of the nicest UK Casino"s you could find. Really nice spec. Beautiful card-room, 20 tables glistening pristinely waiting for the hordes to descend and the competition to begin at 2.30pm
I"ll be back on later. For now, all being well, a bacon sandwich awaits.
-

Paul "Cyntaf" McGuinness came to me excitedly.
"I have to tell you about this hand" he said
I picked up my pen and paer expectantly, and looked up
"It came to me under-the-gun and I folded" he said and walked off cackling, leaving me most disappointed

Many apologies if I am not answering requests. I will endeavour to get chip counts for Harry B and the likes of the Duffins, but if I don"t know them they take a bit of investigation as tables break, people get moved and whilst we are on break
Still not in the dinner queue. Which is frustrating. Even worse, I gather there is a cabaret act on later. Knowing my luck, it will be a Wet Wet Wet tribute act. It wouldn"t get much aurally tougher than that.
-
Is Paul McGuinness still in (anyone please)

Hi Rich,

It appears we still have three out of four going (Simon, James and Martyn Sharp). Any idea whether Mike Hopkinson is still in making it 4/4 or whether he"s taken an early bath?
Cheers
Jon

Phil pushes 9,000 with A.K. A.Q calls the lot off and spikes.

Steve Redfern shoves on the button with 66, semi short stacked
Big blind wakes up with Queens
Mr Redfern, with a lovely wife with flowing locks who he clearly does not deserve, spikes a six on the river to double up, sit down again and let out a guttural sound more akin to a David Attenborough documentary on the eating habits of large primates, than a poker table

Will have to perfect my time honoured technique which involves one of the following gambits:
"Hello sir, are you Mr Duffin?" or "What"s your name please?

Garden on the path to success, 26,000
