Great day yesterday - fantastic venue (if a little on the warm side), and excellent food (even better than Edinburgh!)

Best of luck today to The Stripper - take it down for the BCPC!!

Also GL to Swinebag (emphasis on the swine!) - make the most of MY chips Rob (having called my 11xBB open shove with AT and beating my AQ indeed :"( )   ;D ;D ;D

Oh yeah, and a bounty on Simon Auckland - a pint to whoever knocks him out before the points!  ;D

There is something very nice about completely empty card-rooms. The gentle piped music pervades the atmosphere but there is an eerie calm as I await the gladiators. I treat myself to a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich, I avoid the blackjack, and the roulette and settle down. Everything is in place

Laptop. Check

Three books of lined paper. Check

Four pens. Check.

Three different mobile dongles. Check

One G Casino squishy stress relief device. Check

Two folders (One orange, one yellow) with my schedule for next week mapped out. This week it includes Buckingham, Reading and Brighton.

So, I am ready. I permit myself a full throated sing along to Soft Cell"s "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" as I once again convince myself that Britain really has got talent.

Then my peace is shattered. First gladiators to arrive are Kinboshi and Chipaccrual. Limbering up for the fray.

Good luck to them, and all the others

Good luck to me.

Please tune in again at 2.30pm

For this threat alone, sorting the A/C should be priority number 1.

Good luck to....

too many people to mention who I wouldn"t mind taking this down, but a special mention to Ian Burnett....

Great to see him back at the felt and doing so well

We haven"t been able to load pictures unfortunately, due to the low bandwidth at the G, but had we, a pic of John Murray"s greying flowing locks and beard, tache combo would have been a must.  He is sitting with three monumental towers of chips at the moment, looking almost untouchable.  I had a chat with him a short while ago and said "John, you"re looking very Jesus like" and the other players seemed to almost bow reverentially in his presence.  "Oh yeah" said John, "I must get a hair cut before Luton".  Paradise lost...

I had a weekend planned, building up to a climactic " and here is Hill on the Jenson Button" picture pun, but sadly the photos have to wait.

Good point ;D

but running like God might help  ;)

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half of an hour.

Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I"ll buy you another drink. I just can"t stand to see a man cry."

"No, it"s not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."

"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

Just coming to terms with the medal win - so chuffed.

Big thanks, as always, to Des, Tighty, Leigh, Neil (pretty sure I saw Carl being a runner for Tighty on Saturday night as well), the dealers, valets, TD and Grosvenor, for yet another fantastic APAT event.

Had an absolute blast all the way through the two day event. It was great to catch up with so many familiar faces and friends.

Congratulations to all the money winners, but especially all at the final table - it really was a pleasure playing at the same table as you guys.

As John pointed out, this was Brian"s first live tournament, and to finish second was a fantastic achievement - well done fella, hope we"re going to see you again at future events.

John was a well deserved winner. Some very good aggressive play and reads quickly established him as one of the class acts at the table, I really didn"t want to tangle with him  :D  Well done John, and all the best in the GUKPT event later this year.

My third place was/is a major highlight to me. Ever since I started playing APAT events in December 2006, all I ever wanted was a medal - money comes, and money goes, but the medal will always be there as a reminder of this last weekend.

Thanks again to everyone involved in organising this event, and a big thank you to all those messages of support I received via the forum and text - that was a huge sacrifice, Micky and Ailsa, giving up the x factor just to rail me, I had tears in my eyes when I read that text  ;D

Until next time......

Here Here! I would echo the above
This was my 1st  APAT also

What a fantastic Event. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had been looking forward to it since the day I registered, and it was what I had hoped for, and more.
I was a bit nervous at first.
Having this bloke called Steve Redfern on my table didn"t help my cause. He was sat directly to my left all day, even at the Buffet table   :D
It was a good friendly atmosphere at the table. I met some nice people, and you will definitely be seeing me again.

Now that you"ve played your first APAT you can stop calling him Steve and start using his official monikers of "Luckbox Redfern" or "One Time Again Redfern" like the rest of us  ;D

A big thanks to Des, Tighty and the APAT team for another great weekend, and a big thanks to the staff at the casino for looking after us so well over the course of the tourney. Bolton must be one of the best venue"s on the tour, great cardroom, excellent dealers and plenty of staff waiting tables.
The only downside for me was the heat on the first day, and some luckbox knocking me out on the final table
bubble  ;D. Well done to everyone on the final table and I look forward to returning next year.

Thanks to everyone who came to Bolton over the weekend.  I thought the tournament was played in a very competitive, but fantastic spirit - which is what APAT is all about.  Congratulations to John for winning the title and to Brian and Ian on their medal wins and the other finalists and prize winners.  We look forward to hosting you all again either in Luton, Manchester or during Season Four.

Richard"s tournament report is now available via the main website (http://www.apat.com/wordpress/index.php/2009/10/26/john-kay-wins-2009-english-amateur-title/).  The photos will be online very shortly.

Regards,

Des.

Yet another hugely enjoyable APAT event, with tough but friendly competition. Thanks to Des, Tighty, Lee and any behind-the-scenes APAT staff for such a well-run poker weekend. It"s always a long way to travel to most of these events from the environs of Bath, but it"s such a great atmosphere among the players and always such challenging poker that it"s worth every congested motorway or every train delay to be part of it. At the DTD event my starting table was so civilised with everyone wanting some serious poker, so it was very rewarding to experience the same attitude at my table at Bolton (plus the "interesting" style of Duke!!). The dealers and casino staff were excellent, buffet very tasty, and despite not making it to day 2, I enjoyed every moment (excluding perhaps my knockout in the SB by Daniel in the BB for which I am planning revenge at Luton  ;D

Just like to say a HUGE thankyou for such a wonderful run tourney, the buffet was also of equal excellence. I really loved the table I was on (Would have preferred to have made it the final table) and well Duke, it was a pleasure and honour playing opposite of you, I think they mean by "Unusual" they mean "original" often imitated never equalled, was great fun as well meeting Dan who between us managed to keep our drinks table free from spillage caused by passers-by.

Firstly big congrats to John, Brian and Ian - VWP guys and GL to John in the TOC.

Would quickly like to thank all those that offered me (Andrew Duncan) their support during the two days, both here on the forum and in the card room. I had a blast, though you"d never tell from the look on my face most of the time!

Have to say that Andrew Macleod "The Russian" was a tough opponent for me and suffering him both one to my left then one to my right on successive day 2 tables was torture. His fourth place was more than deserved.

Also enjoyed sitting next to Foggy on day one - especially finding out what a small world we live in!

Final mention to top bloke Tony T (cincycrappykid), who indirectly made my life a misery by calling a 3 bet shove (of 16K no less not long after day 1 dinner) from my missus with AQ v her KK and spiking the A. He told me later he thought she thought he was at it so he called. That"s pretty deep from Tony. She hasn"t shut up about it since.....thanks mate!

See you all in Luton
