Discerning viewers
True or false for each of these please
Only animal besides human that can get sunburn: Pig
In the Caribbean there are oysters that can climb trees
Polar bears are left-handed
1) False - Albino or white furred animals can suffer from sunburn too.
2) True in a fashion - Oysters grow on Mangrove roots so at Low tide can be found to be growing on trees, hence the Caribbean phrase re: oysters climbing trees.
3) True - Polar bears are predominantly left-handed
There you go, Tighty, now on with work, for me, I mean!

Hi Tighty
Home, weather was atrocious
Chip count on Duncan Hodgkins please

I have distressing news. A full 50 seater coach load of ladies of a certain age have turned up in reception, especially for tonight"s cabaret
One can only foresee a Dean Martin/Rat Pack Tribute, perhaps Perry Como/Andy Williams.
Perhaps I should not jump to conclusions. Perhaps it"s a "Prodigy" covers band
Anyway, I am off to smarten myself up, get those jiving shoes on and report back when I know more
-
Brian Yates OUT, Phil Cooklin got him. Phil 34,000
Phil raised with QQ, Brian pushed with 88. QQ held

Just back from my first APAT. Brilliant tournament, fantastic atmosphere, great laugh, would thoroughly recommend it. Fair play to all the casino staff and APAT organisers for a great event. Hope Niall has managed to have at leat one pint of Guinness by now. Good luck to all those still in, special mention for Matt McKinley and Derrick Andrews who were on my table when I went out. Hope one of you can go all the way.

Welcome back to Luton. Some early birds are milling around
I had the perfect morning. Up at 9am to Coach my son"s football game. Felt tired.
Referee a no show. I volunteer myself.
Ten minutes into the game it starts tipping down, horizontal rain, wind and believe it or not I felt tired.
Get through match. Get changed. Refereee turns up assuming it is a 1pm kick off. Get soaked on way to car.
Drive to casino, currently sitting in steaming trousers trying to catch up. Feeling tired.
-
Hi All
It was my first event yesterday, and what a great day it was...so well organised and the structure was great!! Unfortunately i only made it to around 80th - went all in with short stack and only around 8 bb"s with QQ, SB also went all in as had around the same stack with AK and obviously the A hit on the turn.
That aside i am pretty happy with most of my play throughout the day - Think the worst bit about the whole day was west ham chucking away a 2 nil lead, but i have come to expect that nowadays.
Any enough off me, good luck to the remaining 32 players, I hope there is at least one player from my original table in the remaining 32 - i was on table 11 all day in seat 4 !!
Cheers
Jon

BTW the dealer on the photo taken of the Final Table just before it started was a dealer on my table on day 1.
He was an excellent dealer with a sense of humour which is always a bonus. In fact I was impressed with the standard of all the dealers that were on my table throughout the day.

I don"t recall folding a pair there. Must have been a misread. Maybe by me!!!!!!

Congratz to all the finalists, and especially to Stuart for taking it down. Well played fella!!
Also big up to the BCPC for yet another APAT final tablist (at least one in every live APAT event this season!)
To Brian Martin and Andy Duncan - a helluva finish to the season and made for a real squeeky bum moment! Well played (and apologies if any anti-railing was taken as bad etiquette)
Thanks (as ever) to Des and Tighty for another fantastic APAT experience.
Special mention to the staff at the G - what an awesome bunch of people!!
-
Thanks everyone, sorry i didnt stick around a bit longer, i was guided out the door by Phil and shoved into a car to go home in a bit of a daze.
It still hasnt really sunk in yet I dont think, well played to all the people i have played with, everyone has been superb and a pleasure to play with, very much hoping to see you all again at alot more live events next season!
Thanks again!
-
Just back from an absolutely AWESOME 4 days at Luton....what a rollercoaster of emotions !
The Team event was superb in it"s design and execution by Des, Tighty and Leigh. The format is terrific and keeps everyone involved right until the end. The atmosphere.....well......you had to be there really.
As for our England team, a big THANKS to Daniel for selecting me and I am glad that I managed to justify that selection....even if I DID lose to a girl.......ermmm......a GERMAN girl.........TWICE !!!
Seriously though, that first sit-n-go on day 2 was the most incredibly tense encounter that I have EVER played in my life. I knew that the other lads had all gone out early and the pressure on me to do well was enormous. By the heads-up against Silke, There must have been 50 people crowded around that table. A truly amazing game of poker to play in.
To Steve, Neil and John, well played guys and be proud of those bronze medals. We ALL played our part to get them. Hopefully, we will have the chance of another crack at this event next season....I know I want to.
To all the other players, especially the Polish Champions and French Runners-Up, WELL PLAYED ALL OF YOU.
To all the railers, thank-you for your support and words of encouragement throughout ..... it was much appreciated by us all.
I had a disappointing Saturday in the Individual event but enjoyed the night in the company of fellow BCPC members Tony "Luckbox" Trippier, "Dancing" Debjani Duncan and Andy "Ace-Jack" Overton (and his lovely wife Caroline)...thanx to you all....a cracking night peeps.
Sunday saw BCPC members Andy Duncan and Matt McKinlay return for day 2, with Andy unfortunate to go out just before the money, but with the consolation of collecting our £110 last-longer bet as consolation.
When Brian Martin exited before APAT's own "November-Nine" were decided, that meant that our own Steve Redfern was confirmed as No1 in the Live rankings for Season Three....Well done Mucka, you don"t win that by being lucky and your play and commitment over 2009 as a whole makes you a worthy winner, even if your anti-railing may need some fine-tuning !
That just left Matt to come through and although he didn"t win it, he did make the Final Table and that means that our BCPC have had someone on the FT of EVERY SINGLE LIVE EVENT in Season Three....a remarkable feat. Well Done Matt, a thoroughly deserved result.
Finally, I ended this great festival in the best possible way when I won the Omaha event. I am quite proud of this as it was only my 2nd ever live shot at Omaha and enjoyed the experience so much. Hopefully I can represent APAT well when I return to Luton on December 2nd to take up the added prize of a GUKPT seat in the £250 event, aswell as the Champion Of Champions shot on December 5th.
APAT....thanx for an awesome 2009.
-
While I am not speaking on behalf of the G in any management capacity, I can safely say that, as dealers, we all had a brilliant time dealing for you all over the course of the four days and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did over the course of the festival, irrelevant of results.
It"s refreshing to be able to work in a poker environment with a group of people that do not take the game, or themselves, overly serious to which we had a mood through the duration of the entire festival which was fantastic.
However, it"s 5am and I am going to enjoy a chance to get a lengthy amount of sleep. I hope you all have safe travels home and I am sure we"ll see you again.
George.
-
Morning all
I think the adrenalin has subsided now from what was a fantastic experience on the FT and the tourney as a whole.
I can tell you that it certainly beats busting out first as I did in the World"s at DTD in August!!!!
Thanks to all at APAT for a fantastic weekend and as a Luton regular hats off to Niall (it"s an anagram of "ALL IN" - did he mention that???) and all of the staff at "the big G".
Congrats to Stuart for a great performance and Steve for the league title, if fact congrats to all that played, it was by far the friendliest, most sporting event I have ever had the pleasure to play in.
Here"s to a healthy and successful 2010.
Richard "curlarge " Baker

Morning
Just wanted to thank everyone involved over the last 2 days. With this being only my 3rd live event, to come 4th was fantastic and yes rode my luck on more than one occasion (hitting a flush on the river when i should have folded and not got involved). Thank you again to everyone at APAT and G Casino and i will be back next year for my "one live tournament" to have another go.
Congrats to Stuart and finalist on final table.
Cheers

wow, very kind words indeed....and as a player the APAT is so special too. The 3 events I have played and run brilliantly as they are held in places that are very well run and is it dealers such as youself that make the game and our own enjoyment so much the better.
So Thank-you.

Just caught up with the updates - top notch as always, thanks lads. Had a great weekend, did rubbish in the poker, but the atmosphere and company more than compensated for that. Off to rescue my car from the G car park soon and make my way home for a few days sleep :D
-
A superb event in so many ways.
Great structure, great value, great people, great atmosphere.
Good to meet so many APATers and Blonde Poker members in one place - A great crowd all of you. Pleased to do well in my "home" card room too.

Thanks to alll the Apat team, Luton G and Blue Square, for setting up a glorious 4 days of fun and games.
A Great close to the season(excluding Teams in Blackpool). Very well done to all finalists, especially Mcbink. Really enjoyed our table until you took me out with a bitter and a red wine?? Sorry two pair J"s and A"s, great effort Brian.
Well done to all the team medallist and every team participating for making it a truly memorable event.
Well done Steve for being the top ranker. Congrats Brian on your omaha victory. Also finallists, Carl and Colin, vwp guys.

Right back at you guys and gals, you helped make the festival exactly what it was, pleasant and very exciting.
Special mention for John Murray, excellent deep finish again. Also Matty great result mate F.T. Andy Kingan on going so deep, now that would have been a nice double. :)
My biggest thanks goto my fellow team members, Dewi, Rudders, Jason and Darren. Very well done lads, c u next season for more fun :D
Well probably won"t make Blackpool, so hope to you all soon as possible. Thank you all for a brilliant season, bye for now.

Well, what a great four days of poker.
Where do I start ?
Firstly congratulations to Stuart for an excellent win. You played a great game on the final table and it was an excellent call at the end there. To everyone that made the final table, or cashed, or made day two, or made the dinner break on day one, well done to you all.
For those that couldn"t make it to Luton on the Thursday and Friday for the European Team event, well you missed a quite extraordinary two days of poker. The atmosphere was incredible and it was a joy to be involved with an event with so many competitive, yet friendly teams and players. This event goes from strength to strength and the German substitution was a moment that will live long in my memory, i looked over to see the place erupt with a wave of colour all round that table. The rail must have been five deep, and I thought both players handled the pressure superbly well.
Congratulations to Poland for their excellent win. I thought they played the last session extremely well. We couldn"t have scripted the finish any better if we tried. I hope the updates did it credit as it was a rollercoaster last hour of play. Very well done to the French and English teams for winning medals also, and to the English captain for staying reasonably sober on the Friday. ;)
All of the above could not have been possible without our sponsors, Blue Square, who offered fantastic value for both events, but even more of a thank you must go to all of the staff at the G Casino in Luton. To Niall and the dealers, you are simply the best imo. Thanks to all the valets, restaurant staff and chefs, food was excellent, and I can recommend the toast if you happen to miss out on breakfast four days in a row. ;D
A quick congratulations to Steve Redfern on finishing top of the rankings this season, thoroughly deserved. I thought both Andrew and Brian ran you close and I know you were very nervous about it, so I hope your anti-railing is forgiven and taken in the right way. I know how much it means to you to be top at the end of the season.
And finally, thanks to Des and Rich. It"s always great fun working these weekends, they do an amazing job. And Tighty, I"ll try my best not to go that deep in an event again. ;) Big thanks to Steve Redfern, James Barber, Claire MacGregor, George Dickson and anyone else I didn"t spot doing chipcounts and feeding info through, it all makes for a great update thread.
Right, now for the real work, just got to pick an APAT team for the UK Team event in January. I might be a while........

Sorry Alan,(Mcbri[an]de) so much typing far too many letters and names, or would you prefer i called you Brian? ???
Talking of Brian, vwp and ul not to F.T. Mr Martin, Excellent season matey, c u soon.

Good luck Dewi, Scouse and all others that have qualified for the Champion of Champions.

-
And just to add.
Congratulations to Brian "BOINGBLITZ" Yates on taking down the Omaha side event last night. Brian was a member of the English team that finished third in the team event on the Friday. A little known fact about Brian is that he is also a member of the Black Country Poker Club. If you don"t believe me, ask him about it. ;)
Congratulations to George "Geo" Dickson on taking down the 76 runner £100 freeze-out at Luton last night for £2,660. George was a member of the Scottish team in the event in Luton and has already picked up an APAT medal earlier this year in Edinburgh.
Well played to both of you, a great way to round of the weekend.
-
A little known fact about Brian is that he is also a member of the Black Country Poker Club. If you don"t believe me, ask him about it. ;)
Never heard of that poker club, I suspect it"s a club for the quiet, retiring, shy types...... :D
-
Just want to add my personal note of thanks to
everybody involved in the organisation of the past
weekend in Luton. An excellent effort from all. ;D
Too numerous to mention by name as I"m guaranteed to
leave someone out!
My first, and hopefully not last, live apat event and a most
enjoyable experience.
CONGRATULATIONS to all FTers/luckboxes/etc who cashed and
commiserations to all those who took the bad beats, & there were plenty, ::)
I"m sure it will be your turn next time!
WOOP WOOP to the top 3........spend that cash wisely ;D

What a great weekend!
Luton was my second live APAT event and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I arrived on Friday evening and stayed and watched the heads up battle between Brian Yates and Arek Sinkiewicz, which Brian graciously gave to the Polish to allow the play off.
Well played Poland!
I returned next day and met up with a few of you guys and no-one and I mean not one person takes themselves too seriously which is such a refreshing trait nowadays.
As I am fairly new to the APAT I was amazed at the quality of poker being played or perhaps it was my lack of it but still I'll settle for luck boxing all day long.. If it's good enough for James Barber it'll do for me ..
Leigh Wiltshire is a legend ..........He did tell me to say that! Busy updating but still time to talk to me about anything and everything and what possibilities the new season will bring........ and then the hand that could have changed everything..Hard lines Leigh!
The updating by Richard, Leigh and photography by Des was magnificent, the highlight of my weekend was the instant weight loss programme, after exiting in 13th place a wonderful picture of Marc Jelfs was put up alongside my name. Apologies Marc
There were some funny moments along the way, usually coming from John Murray and Matt McKinlay..Top blokes, I am sure also that John Murray has at some point worked for military intelligence. I have never had to answer so many questions. ;D :"(
Thanks to James Barber for bokking railing me and thanks to Darren, Jamie and their mate for showing me how not to play black jack.
A big plus was the card room manager Niall and his staff, well done to them, they helped make it happen.
Well done to all final tableists and obviously Stuart for his win, congratulations to Steve Redfern for the rankings
I hope you all had a great weekend, I know I did and I hope it wont be the last
Thank you APAT
Ian

Well done to Stuart for the win, and to everyone else who cashed.
Another great APAT event and can"t wait for the next one. Excellent organisation all round as always - perhaps you could have a word with Redtooth and let them know how a tournament should be organised, although they do a good game of bingo if anyone"s into that!
Big congratulations to fellow BCPC members :
Brian, for winning the Omaha. Another good result to top off a great year.
Matt, for reaching the final table, and for his choice of t-shirt on Day One. ;D
Steve, for topping the overall rankings, thoroughly deserved.
and Andy, for winning the last longer ..... git. ;)
Looking forward now to the team event in January and a win for the BCPC!
Oh, and finally, thanks to Laxie for keeping us entertained on the first table and for teaching me the power of the Montana Banana. 9c :3d: ;D

A little known fact about Brian is that he is also a member of the Black Country Poker Club. If you don"t believe me, ask him about it. ;)
Never heard of that poker club, I suspect it"s a club for the quiet, retiring, shy types...... :D
Yeah, we"ll be at the team championship. We"ll be the ones in the corner sipping tea and discussing the works of Shakespeare. :)
-
Nice 1 Stuart, made up for you and good luck in London! Also thanks to Des and the mob for another top tourney!

Well done Carl and Geo and Scott on the side events

Well done Stuart, a fantastic win. Loved that call! I might have played my tiny part in your tournament good start ;) and I"m really happy you took this one down.
Well played John, another deep run, enjoyed playing at your table too. And special mention to Gyorgy Kiss from the Hungarian team, you certainly marked the spirits there!
It"s been 4 days of intense poker, great European festival, well done Apat and thanks to Niall and his team.

Main event was just iceing on the cake, after such a emotional two days.
Congratulations to the winner and Steve for winning the ranking.

Had a ball, £20 SNG madness after a few Guiness"s was a blast, playing cash with Blatch"s mate NIGHTMARE (what is this hand in the air thing?), Omaha just great, main event errr ks kh no good against 7s 7h! Thanks to all (Tighty,Des,Leigh ...).. Staff fantastic oh and "let it ride" could be my new fav game (after poker)!

Cheers mate, really really enjoyed playing with you and you keeping me company most of the way through!!
Great player and a good man, hope to see you again next season a few more times!!

Going into this event as defending Champions and finishing at the opposite end of the table was a bitter pill, disappointing as that was, I"m sure I speak for the whole Irish team in congratulating APAT legends Des, Richard, and Leigh, for another superb offering.
The entire staff at G Casino Luton are without question the friendliest most welcoming team I"ve ever come across anytime anywhere. It was so obvious the level of dedication to our every need was expertly influenced and led by Niall, Carmel and Nina, as customer care goes, you guys really are the nuts.
As is par for the course, there were lots of entertaining episodes, too many to mention but highlights for me were......
- The Neil Blatchley show, couldn"t imagine I"d ever rail a cash game for two hours but it was so worth it. Thank you Blatch you"re a funny funny guy, though your blatant disregard for money is scarey
- The inspired German substitution when heads up v Brian Yates. Well done Stefan astutely aware as always, well done Silke for taking the extra point under severe pressure and well done Brian for displaying superb sportsmanship in very trying circumstances. Thank you all for the superb atmosphere you created and giving life to Des" stategy ideas and making his day.
- The hilarious and frequent announcements from Niall. ie; "Would the person who left their belt in the mensroom, please go to the poker desk". Or, "tonights tourney will be played at tables marked 1-6, table 1 will become table 2, table 2 will become table 3, table 3 will become table 4", etc. Priceless stuff.
Commiserations to a valiant French team, who completely within the rules of the game, ::) :P came within a race or two of taking the title. Finally, the standard of play at these events just gets better and better, evidence if needed that APAT continue to provide the environment for its players to hone and develope their poker skills. So a sincere congrats to, Team champs Poland, European Amateur champion Stuart Ward, and Omaha winner Brian Yates.

Paul
I seem to have a few names now, but I"m happy with Alan (or Lucky) !
I thought we had a great starting table Paul. Some good play, some "interesting" play and a lot of fun too, with some good characters !
I enjoyed your company and was sorry to see you go (though pleased with the chips obviously!).
I"m sure I"ll see you again at another event.

Thanks Marty. Just to mention there was also a £250 seat thrown in for the winner which went to Brian. Top bloke and great competitor. Reaching the final table as short stack, I was well chuffed with 3rd.

What a tournament. Still shattered. Another triumph for the APAT team. Congrats to them and to the medallists. Also wp Niall and his team (especially the catering) - showed up some other venues.
My starting table became the final table, so I was the only person in the tournament to never move - a surreal feeling to sit in the same place the whole way through while everyone gradually came to my table. The table was fairly soft to start with - not much to worry about when surrounded by Darren Shallis, Rob Swindell, Simon Auckland, Steve Redfern, Franck Viollet and Jurgen Bachmann! The bloodbath suggested by that line-up inevitably followed and I was lucky not to be involved in most of it. The massacre continued all evening with replacements coming and going all the time. There must have been more people knocked out on that table than any table I have ever played on. By the end of the night every single replacement had also left so every seat had been occupied by a minimum of three players and some by several more. I have never shared a table with so many players in one tournament - literally dozens.
Josh Sugarman & Gyorgy Kiss caused me a lot of trouble at different stages with their aggressive/creative chip accrual. Although they were taking chips from me, I had to admire the plays they were making (though some of their calls were optimistic, as those on the table may remember). Derrick Andrews filled the role in the later stages. I hadn"t come across Kev Smith before - though we only had a couple of skirmishes, it was clear to me during the time he was on the table that he was someone with the potential to do a lot of damage to my stack so, without meaning to be nasty, I was glad when he went. Same applied to Rudders & John Miller. Saw some incredible short-stack play by Brian Martin and some rough bad beats, the worst sufferer being Colin McCarthy, who rebuilt his stack after a huge bad beat (with AA, I think, not sure), only to be hit by a second with KK, each of which he took with amazing good humour, despite his tournament being destroyed very late by bad luck. So many players, I"ve forgotton a lot of what happened - I remember enjoying playing with Richard Baker, Andy Overton, Ian Thompson & Alan McBride. It was great to have Jean-Michel there on Day 2 and Matt & Silke on the FT. Pity Brendan just missed the FT for the second time in succession - might have made up for his horrible bad beat in Nottingham. In the end I was knocked out with AQ for the third successive APAT, despite hitting it again. AQ is the new AJ.
Highlights for me:
- Having raised from MP with 9 7 (ahem), flopped a 9, bet every street and been called all the way by Josh, I bet 2k (about 75% of the pot) on the River with 4th pair. I think the Board was something like T96AJ. He eventually called and the following conversation took place - Josh:What have you got? Me:One pair. Josh:Which? Me:Nines. Josh:You win.
- Gyorgy Kiss (c 40k) raised PF for the 79th time and John Miller (c 80k) called. Flop x77. On the Turn, John bet & Gyorgy reraised. John thought about it for about two hours and eventually reraised all-in. Snap-call. Miller KT (total miss), Kiss Q7. Whoops! Miller: I knew he was raising me with junk. Kiss: I didn"t have junk after the Flop. Good point. [PS: They didn"t use the word "junk"].
- Gyorgy raised my BB to 6k, the 104th time he had done this in 6 hours. By now, I was calling with Q6. Flop Axx - check, check. Turn Q - check, check. River x - I bet 6k, he called. I showed, he mucked. What did he have?
- Brian Martin shoved all-in UTG, folded to my BB. I fold and show 8 4. Brian shows 8 2. Had him dominated!
- Brian Martin again. Shortstack shoves for about 12k. Two callers and Brian last to act. This scenario was discussed on the forum last week and I could see that Brian wanted to reshove to create dead money but was struggling to force himself to make the play, presumably cos his hand wasn"t particularly good and the two callers were the two massive stacks, who could lose the amount in Brian"s shortish stack (50k ish?) without noticing the difference. Eventually he managed it and the others folded(?) leaving Brian HU for a pot of 50k at a cost of 12k. Em, A6o didn"t win and the shortstack quadrupled up, so no reward for a great play.

Hey, thanks for the mention.... Even if it is just to be listed as one of the "un-luckiest" :"(
You were right, my A"s got beat by 10c,Jc.... Then my K"s got beat by AJ o-s!
But, thats all forgotten now.... I"ve lost to other bad beats since then!!! LOL
It was my first APAT tournament and although i feel a little disappointed to get so deep without cashing I hope I"ve made a good impression and will be feared in my next one! ;)
