A Hotel Room
Accommodation is an essential part of any APAT weekend and the logical thing to do is find someone to room with and share the costs (+ev). It seems a simple decision, who to room with and where to book, but, get this wrong and it can have a huge impact on how your weekend may go.
Take this scenario for example that happened whilst at the APAT Scottish National Championships. For ease, let"s call the two individuals involved Brian and Steve. ;D
Steve takes up the story...........
My travelling companion, BrianYates, and I were sharing a room at a small B&B about a mile from the casino. We had one set of keys which opened the front door and the bedroom door. Brian who wasn"t feeling so good left the casino early evening, and suggested I call him when I arrived back at the B&B so he could let me in. At around 11.30, feeling dead tired, I trudged the mile walk along the Glasgow Road and rang Brian"s mobile....... the conversation was along the lines of:
Brian "Hello"
Steve "It"s me. Let me in please"
Brian "I"ll throw the keys out of the window"
Steve "Don"t be a t&@t - just come and let me in the door"
Skylight window opens and Brian appears...
Brian "Here you go - catch"
Steve "Make sure you throw them far enough - mind the gutter"
Brian "Oops, they landed in the gutter"
Steve "Daft t&@t"
Brian "Sorry mate"
Steve "It"s raining, cold, and I can"t get in"
A mile in the rain to get back to the casino to find Paul McGuinness (he was staying in the same B&B). Waited til 2am for close of play and walked back with Paul. Another mile!
It was an interesting conversation next morning when Brian had to ask the old boy who owned the B&B for a ladder to get on his roof!!

Every APAT weekend seems to have an accomodation story of some sort. Whether it"s the Orange Wings in Vienna, The Fitzwilliam Townhouse in Dublin or whatever went on with the Scottish and Irish teams in Brighton. Most are probably not fit for a public forum.
So make your choice wisely, and if you need help, you can always try (http://www.apat.com/images/laterooms_advert.gif)
The Fitzwilliam Townhouse in Dublin, Dawn"s finest hour ;D ;D ;D wee man still has nightmares
If APAT did accommodation..............................
Leigh, glad the accommodation issues in Cardiff didn"t get a mention. Sigh.

Best forgotten, although that was more of a phone issue. ;)
On the same subject- never let Kev Smith book a hotel for ya!!!
Well, here"s a christmas advent calendar special. How about getting 13 issues of WPT Magazine for £9.99 (http://www.wptmag.co.uk/festive)
lol so thats where i was ..all a blurrrrrrrrrrrrr

lol, had to chuckle at that, well up to the mention of Orange Wings anyway. :D
APAT weekends often take people into a strange twilight zone. In Luton last week, I arrived back at the hotel at 4.30am to find my key card would not work on my door. So I headed back to the lift on the 2nd floor on my way to reception, only to pass Tony Trippier heading the other way. "Hi Des", "Hi Tony" - lol, 4.30am on a strange square of land, not another soul in sight and it all seemed completely normal.
LOLOL......The tears have just run down my cheeks Leigh. Superb mate.....though I AIN"T a Brummie !!
Leigh do you never go bed before midnight?

The Digicel Girls
It was the beginning of the year that Don Logan started his blog entitled "One Winter of English Cricket". On his return from following England in the Caribbean it became "One Winter and Once Summer of English Cricket".
Well he"s off on his travels again, this time to South Africa, so now we have Two Winters and One Summer of English Cricket (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2626.0)
This time Don is armed not only with a digital camera and his amazing writing style, but also he has a camcorder with the aim of some video blogging.
The thread has already had nearly 7,000 reads, and I"m sure this winter will add to that.
The itinery looks interesting, with a theme running through it. ;)

Here"s the interview Des did with Don prior to his last trip. He had made it through to Day Two of the APAT UK Championships in a frozen Walsall. Can you sense he was looking forward to the Caribbean ?

Possibly Des" finest hour ? Certainly one of his more edgy efforts, as the build up continued for the WCOAP held at DTD in August.

Top bloke, and an APAT legend.
I really must catch up with your blog, Ger, I"ve not had chance to read it for a good few months...
And he knows how to play pocket nines ;)

Yep, it belongs to Ian "HaworthBantam" Burnett. Regional Controller for the Central Division Online league, moderator and all round top APATer. I don"t think I"ve ever seen a player hugging their medal with more affection than Ian did in Bolton this year. He couldn"t stop saying "I"ve won a medal, the money was nice, but I"ve won a medal"
I got sent the following link the other day, it"s not at all embarassing or anything like that, but it may be revenge for the fact Ian has gone on about the medal quite a bit. ;D
Jeez, anyone would think I mentioned it a lot :D
Seriously, as I"ve said before, money comes and money goes, but the medal is a constant reminder of a fantastic weekend.
I don't know about your advent calendar, but mine only has 1 door 18 not 2
Respect, just total respect for those two. They are now jointly my official heros.
Big thanks to Des and Tikay - the engine behind the APAT machine.
