Title: WOTS THE POINT !!! - MEGA GRIPE
Post by: texfitz on October 10, 2007, 02:05:20 AM
me n GF attended Newcastle regional to try and secure a place in the National at Walsall (didn"t make it). Then try online qualifiers, felt like it was playin PartyPoker freeroll in the first hour - up against :-     " i"ve got an  :as:, i"m not folding"

my KK was busted by A6os ffs

SO, settled for waiting for the "klickfest" tonite, all ready, waiting for the link:-

THEN THE SITE WENT DOWN

months ago we enquired into travel, accomodation, pre-arranged sorting kids out etc...
OK, you may say "should have played better"  fair  enough, but JO really played her heart out at Newcastle (she got 5th - 3 places up for grabs)

then we find out people dont actually want to attend the NATIONAL, they were only in for the money

" can i sell me seat"  "can"t make it but where"s me medal"  "can i have the money instead - I"m a student" and blah blah blah...

JO has gone to bed REALLY upset because she was so looking forward - and tried - to play at the NATIONALS

now we can"t come down because we couldn"t even buy in.

methinks ppl will just wait until the  "klickfest" for £75 to buy in rather than travel expenses etc to attend a regional tourney

We went to Newcastle for the regional qualifier because we are APAT members, could"ve stayed home, waited for the "clikfest" and got the same result, BUT WE TRIED

not too happy about APAT site going down but, hey, you get the "cant be fu**ed with attending qualifiers  - ALL-IN ON THE CLICKFEST"

good luck to all those who made it

Lot"s of members, only a few seats.  Some people have to miss out.  Generally though people drop out of these events after securing seats, or just can"t make it on the day.  If you were to show up as a reserve or alternate if they"re accepting alternates you"d probably get a seat.  There"s also the final event of season one to play, I"m sure you"ll get to play in one of these things eventually.

If you really want to play, you can.

Turn up very early on the day and get yourself to the front of the queue so you"ll be at the head of the reserve list.

And if that"s too risky you just have to accept the vagaries of fate.

Just using the clickfest method some people were able to get a seat in the first season whenever they wanted, and some went the whole season and only managed to get in once.

There"s nothing to get around the problem of demand exceeding supply by such a large margin - you might be best assuming you can"t go, then it will be a pleasant surprise if you end up with a seat.

Good Luck for the future.  :)

How did you play the hand. KK is good until an A hits of course. Did you raise pre flop? Was the A on the flop and if not did you try to bully him out?

I mean I"m not saying anything about your play, but you could have checked the big blind with KK for all we know thus you can"t really complain :) More info would be nice.

As for the clickfest.. It is fair because everyone is in the same boat together. The satellites and the regional ones are extra events for people to get the chance to qualify but I believe the main entry is through the clickfest.

Did you do things like put your card details into notepad and copy them in instead of type them in bit by bit? Things like that help. Not sure if auto form fillers work but thats worth a try too. What I"m saying is ok, you"re upset about not getting with Jo, but cest la vie! You"re taking your anger out on the community which do you think is fair?

The ONLY gripe I"d have is its a disadvantage to a target audience which may be slower with entering details due to limited computer skills. I don"t believe APAT should be about that. But I certainly wouldn"t come out all guns blazing if I missed it because of that. :)

As someone else suggested turn up as soon as the casino opened and be first on the reserves list. About 8 people missed the Apat Europe last event... Couldnt believe it myself but hey!

Lee Mulligan, the Welsh Champion from Season 1 missed out on the Scottish Championship clickfest.

He lives in Southampton (well did, he"s now in Germany, but that"s irrelevant for this story).

He sorted his accommodation in Edinburgh, got a flight up, and was outside the door at 9am on the Saturday and sure enough got on the reserve list and played that day.

Another player I know well (he was the one who told me about APAT in the first place), didn"t get into the Welsh Championship via the clickfest.  So he drove over from Essex to Cardiff, got to the casino early doors (he was second on the reserve list), and got to play.

Now I know not everyone is willing/able to do this, but it"s a valid option as a last resort if you really MUST play.

I read on another post that the reserve list is headed by "fastest losers" from the clickfest as someone who just missed out suggested it and APAT agreed. So i"d check before travelling and sitting on the casino doorstep to be turned away.

will people who got through to payment screen and don"t get seats be automatically put on the reserve list in the order they missed out?

Des?

That is a very good idea.  Yes.

Definetly didn"t dream it, that"s a quote from the clickfest post.

That might be the case Phil, but that will be for a reserve list before the day - that would make a lot of sense, and I hope that"s what"s happening.

However, there will still be people dropping out on the day, and a new reserve list will be created for the day itself (and the previous reserve list scrapped).  With the reserve list you mentioned Phil, that means that there will probably be far fewer dropping out on the day itself though, making it harder to get in just by turning up.

???

I"m not sure whether there will be a difference between people who can confirm they can"t make it before hand (and take reserves from the "fastest losers") and people who don"t make it on the day (and take reserves from the "doorsteppers")

I"m also not clear the effect of people not having to be at their seats will make. Will people have to confirm they can make it, but will be late? (otherwise their seat goes to a reserve)

Or will there stack go out and get blinded away? (in which case, where do the reserves enter the equation) ?

???

I"m confused now - what"s going on?

Confusing indeed, my suggestion is all people who know they can"t make it inform Des in advance, then players from the "fastest losers" list can be contacted before the event and asked whether or not they would like a seat. Then that list should be wiped out the day before the event and people form a new list on the day but can"t see many dropping out that late.

Not sure either Jon, but if someone wants a refund, I guess they"ll have to inform APAT before the start - otherwise they"re entered (and so get no refund) and blinded away until whatever level when their stack is removed and an alternate gets a place.

They tell APAT they can"t play beforehand, they get their refund, and a "doorstep reserve" gets their seat.

I"d say that sounds pretty good, but at what stage does a reserve on the day get to buy-in if people haven"t turned up? end of level 1? first break? and do they get a full stack or the blinded away stack?

I think there"ll be two levels here.

Reserves who get a seat before it starts - and they obviously get the same as everyone else.  Easy enough.

Then the alternates.  Not sure how that works, but there"ll be rules in place that the casinos use.  It"s only just been introduced here, but it"s the norm in the US and elsewhere.  I think you get a full starting stack, and alternates are allowed up to a certain level (say the end of level 2 for example).

Has APAt resolved whether alternates will be allowed or not yet?

They were in Dublin last season, so I guess they will be for all Nationals this season.

Some formal rules will be implemented I"d guess.

This was close to the method used last year (albeit in draw format) once seats were filled the next X amount made up a reserve list which then filled in for pull-outs up till the day before the tourny, a new reserve list was then started on the day from people who had travelled in the hope of no-shows. Rarely did anyone on the reserve list on the day not get a seat as Kin alluded to earlier.

The Nationals are great events and I share your disappointment. As much as it"s "only amateur" it can be a costly business trying to qualify for them (i say this from experience as I"m crap at online) but nevertheless we keep trying.

Try to be there at Walsall and if you don"t make the main event you will certainly still enjoy all the side games and the APAT banter. That"s what I intend to do.
