Title: jbworldwide's holiday fund spin up
Post by: jbworldwide on January 18, 2010, 23:36:53 PM
OK so here is the problem;

I have to get £415 to my girlfriends dad by the end of Feb in order to pay for a holiday to Cyprus, well I say holiday it is one of her cousins wedding so we have to go there.

Now not exactly being flush with cash I have decided to give some BR management a good go and spin it up to the money that I need which equates to $678.

I am going to attempt to achieve this from a base of $70 on Pokerstars (can"t be bothered with the Ferguson thing, way too long!)

I will do this across MTT"s, SNG"s and Cash (starting at NL $25, and yes I know I am under rolled)

you can follow my stats on various sites but I will post my updates and any significant hands as well. Any advice and help is welcomed.

good luck James.

Personally, playing on Stars, I would recommend grinding the $6.50 Turbo STTs. I"ve had a decent run over the past two months on Stars starting with a micro roll that was spent on these relatively easy SNGs.

So yes I started this blog today but I have an update; (incidently I started this spin up on the 11th Jan)

cash; I have started well and according to Poker Table Ratings I am  $94 in profit

also anything goes as far as I am concerned and I will play low stake MTT"s in PLO, PLO8 and HE.

i cashed 5th in a $3.30 PLO8 freezout with 952 runners for $147.08

add to that some SNG wins and losses, but nothing significant my total roll is now....

$342.15

7 days gone and only $335.85 to go  8)

Hmmmmm, he"s making this look worryingly easy.

Once you get to your target James, can you spin it up again so we can all have a holiday.   ;)

Keep it going sir.

Yea its tough playin under-rolled, but gl gl gl.  If I were u at this stage, I would multi-table NL10 or $10sng"s til u get to $500, then grind up the rest of ur target at NL25.  Think its a safer option, and in the long-run u r more likely to succeed.

ok so a few things today, logged on to Stars and played a little 25nl cash ; +$2.40

then something interesting appeared from Full Tilt, "Rush Poker". I logged on to see what the fuss was about and wow this game is nuts, I can"t really describe how it works you have to go onto Full Tilt to have a look, but is as fast paced as you can get and a great innovation, I wonder if it has caught Stars by suprise?

So I mess about on that and made a few dollars but since it is not part of the challenge it wont get posted in here. I am also in the Hendon Mob $11 league deepstack tonight, I might post that to this total if I cash, (bubbled the last one :( )

Then I went and gave blood -1 pint

After relaxing for a bit, it affects you more than you think it would, I have logged on to Stars and found this;

The WBCOOP and since I am now blogging I have entered, hopefully I will get in as this blog is primarily about Stars.

They asked me to post the link (please dont remove it all if you need to mods, I need the reg code, image and the text to stay on)

I have registered to play in the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker! The WBCOOP is a free online tournament open to all Bloggers, so register on to play

Going to explore what I can load up this evening on the laptop as the football is on, I will update on any progress later

so evening over

I failed to mention in the previous post that I was in a syndicate sit and go for the London Poker Circuit £400 Deepstack on Feb 6th-7th 2010

I was in 50/50 with The Hendon Mob and I won the seat  8)

so I am playing, have a hotel and expenses covered and 40% of any winnings (which then have to be split with the mob so effectively 20%) and the other 9 players have different sized shares of the 60% depending on their finishing position.

Great for me as I get to play this tournament for $45 and I could get a nice cash out of it, that"ll pay for the holiday :) (pretty sick as the buy in would pay for it :( ) but i look forward to it.

I also made 18th in the league game which gave me some league points, a cash of $12 ($11 buy in) and a $1 profit lol, I just got ul when i shoved in the highjack with AJ suited with around 8BB"s and found AQ on the button.

so not a bad evening at all and now there is potential to come  8)

played three MTT"s today

$4.40 180 FO, fail racing with AJ against 66 and losing out in 71st
$5.50 Mix PLO/PLHE i cash in 12th for $9.87
$2.20 PLO8 and i cash in 29/1120 for $8.90

so a profit at least, but a long time for not much return so I am going to edit my game plan with these I think and play a lot less of them.

another problem I am finding is that I am not arriving in the money with a large stack usually the opposite so I obv have a leak in my game in going for the win, going to see if I can plug that hole, ANY TIPS>?

add the profit +$6.67

+$362.28

played a little cash today and a couple of PLO8 tournaments

PLO8 forget about it, no luck in that one went in AA26 which according to Phil Hellmuth is the 2nd best starting hand, no good against KK and no low, oh well.

made a few dollars in cash my overall cash profit is now +$119, helped by a very loose player who thought his image would push me off this hand clicky to see (https://www.pokertableratings.com/hand-history/stars/38502531690/4636343870) unfortunately for him I had been watching him be a donk for at least 10 mins so after a short dwell I called thinking I was likely to be ahead, and yes I was by miles.

also reg"d for the .25c rebuy to the Manc IPT I took a $8.88 seat down for .75c but took it as TD$ as I think I could spin it up in SNG rather than play a rebuy i had no intention of rebuying in.

Further update this evening loaded up a few small stakes tourneys

1.10 PLO double or nothing (for fun) which I did +$0.90
1.20 PLO8 SNG (for fun) although 4th again :(
$3 SNG which I won +$15

and I used my 8.80 token for a Mixed PLO/PLHE and made the FT, got my JJ killed by KQ in big pot which would have left me third and able to push on. I then shoved the rest from the button with KJ into A10 in the BB and the Ace turned.
I was happy with the way that I played and I was short stack for a lot of the tournament and got myself onto the FT in 4th, just didn"t have the luck at the crucial point.

7/57 = +$20.52

totaliser

+$408.93 ($270 to go)

Good luck James, going well. I looked into the WBCOOP but it said your blog has to be active for 2 months to be eligible. Did you get accepted? No point in me applying if it"s not going to happen, I imagine they"ll be pretty strict about it. Good luck on hitting your target anyway! Will be following your progress...

Update after the weekend.

Saturday

The fear turned up! wow I hadn"t felt it in a long time, I feel I have done really well in this spin up and I am inching ever closer to my target but... WHAT IF I LOSE IT ALL????

I didn"t even bother on Saturday playing any cash as I probably would be giving my money away, so I played some small stakes tournaments and lost the fear again after some small cashes again (going deep and onto an FTstill proving a bit of a problem) I am really starting to like playing PLO8 but KK>AA in this format a lot (well I seem to be on the wrong end of it in all my exits)

Sunday

So i got back on the horse and then bang a big hand very early on...

Playing on Pokerstars for a bit and managed to lose a $40 pot 3 way with AA vs KK vs 1010. K on the river for a standard bad beat. But stars paid me back with interest when all my other AA held and someone was determined to smash off his chips. I am now at a cash game profit high of +$159

I also played the tournament on Pokerplayer (whilst watching the APAT updates and still wishing I was there, someone MUST pick me next year :( ) I came 29th and it paid at 20, I was gutted about this as solid play got me to 10k in chips farily quickly (20min blinds 5k to start) and then some idiot (great!) went crazy with 8.5k and 1010 pre-flop when I had AA in the BB happy days, oh a 10 on the flop. FFS. So then I played hard core short stack play and got back to 5k but i couldn"t get passed that and I lost KQ on the button to AK *sigh.

I actually feel that if that AA had held I would have cashed if not gone to the FT and possibly all the way as I was so comfortable and all my play was working fine (the field was weak) *SIGH

As a result of this Titan gave me a £15 sign up bonus so I may spend a bit of time trying to grind this up as well.

but Pokerstars is still the site of choice

totaliser

+$451.24

This evening, by some sort of miracle, I managed to subverse the T$C"s of the Stars blogger tournaments and I have tickets, so I am going to be playing this tonight with the £2000 added freeroll. GL me

finished 55/5478 in the Freeroll

for $8.58

had a nightmare this morning in cash lost a $40 pot against QQ with AA which made me tilt a little bit and i spunked $5 more.
I have loaded up some $3 sit and goes to see if i can grind up again with some minimal risk, I will update this when the results are in for those.

the bank roll has taken a bit of a variance hit, update to follow

Ok so I loaded 4 $3 sng"s, they were really tight and on 2 of them I went out with the best hand going in (cannot complain about my play, e.g. JJ vs QJ, QQ* flop) so I got 2x6th and 8th and a 2nd and i lost heads up to runner runner flush. so an overall deficit of 4.60 on these.

on the subject of variance I had a look at my top 10 winning hands and losing hands with AA in them.

I notice that I have won $66.55 with aces and lost $33.20 with them, the biggest lost being $21.85 in the pot today.

obviously looking at these figues is only a snapshot and of the top ten money lost or made hands, but it is interesting to see that I am 2:1 in profit. I figure though that hopefully the next couple of times i get aces I will win and this will boost the ratio further, we will see.

between $10 and $20 - gives you 20 to 40 buy ins.

My pref with that bankroll would be the $16 9 seat turbos on Stars

I think 20b/i"s is fine.  Sng"s r still quite soft! Ur easily rolled for the $10"s and prob cud play 20"s.

So I had the weekend off   8)

Bit of a rough time today, I managed to get a long session in on cash which was good for my FPP"s (123 in one day) but not great for my bankroll. The final figures aren"t in yet but it was either a break even or losing session.

Played some SNG as well at the $6 stake, I didn"t fair to well in these either

So I am going backwards at the moment in terms of bankroll

+$408.30 (£255)

enough for today. tomorrow is another (profitable hopefully) day.

Bank roll growth rarely goes in the right direction all the time, I have had a bad 3 days losing a chunk of my roll on cash and SNGs, you know you"re running bad when your trip Kings makes a boat on the river only to be beaten by Aces over kings !! Was all in on the turn.! Back to the grind tonight !
Title: Re: jbworldwide's holiday fund spin up

wow am I taking a pounding on the roll and this is a downswing I am definitely not enjoying

cash it just seems like jacks are cracking everything I get; JJ>KK and AA and have cost me a couple of buy ins in the process, but when I get AA and KK i can"t seem to get the value back which is why I am losing quite a bit I think.

I am still in profit overall for cash, but I am $70 off my peak earnings and actually had a near $100 swing on Monday alone ouch.

had a go at a few $6 sit and go"s as well and this didn"t work out for me either

so I am going to drop levels, back to the $3 sngs and NL10 for a while

if this was just for poker money I probably wouldn"t mind, but I suppose putting some importance on the money doesn"t really help when you lose it

+$341.09 (-$110 from my peak, ouch)

Update :)

So I made my way to the Sportsman casino in London, and only 9 runners had turned up! I suppose that is what you get when you put a tournament on the same day as the DTD deepstack and the Dublin Deepstack. 2 of those declared they were leaving, so that left 7 and they had an idea of shortening the blinds and playing a SNG, not for £440 i wont, so I took the money out and planned what to do next.

I was freerolling a 4 star hotel as well which kept the girlfriend happy, and I went back there to make plans whilst watching rugby. I decided with the help of Joe Beevers (name drop) that I should play a few tournaments starting with the £75 @ the Golden Nugget (Empire owned) which was 10k chips and a 20 min clock, some good play and a range of opponents but unfortunately the cards didnt work in my favour and I went out 19/44, not the end of the world but 77 into AA generally is :(

I have £345 left of the syndicate money and plans are afoot, ofc this blog will be first to know :)

Bankroll update

So I now have 3 bankrolls running across a few sites, I was getting bored of stars so I have decided to mix it up.

Pokerstars $407.59
Full Tilt Poker $30.62 (started at $19)
Black Belt Poker £52.05 (started at £15) = approx $81.62

on Pokerstars I have been grinding away rebuilding what I lost and the come back is in hand, I have stayed away from cash as much as possible at the moment and I am playing sit and goes.

Full Tilt I have mainly been playing rush, wild swings all the time at 0.05/0.10 but it is fun so I like playing it to mix it up a bit and I am making a little at it as well, so grinding away on that.

Black Belt Poker I finished 2nd tonight in a 20man $3 rebuy for $73, I was unlucky when my A5 didnt hold up against KJ for the win and found it hard work from there and eventually got it in a flop of a flush draw and two overs and missed it all, happy with that result though as I got to the FT in last place, patience + luck + timed aggression ftw  8)

Totaliser across all 3 in dollars;

+$519.83 (£331.57)

£83.43 to go or approx $130.81 (end game is in sight!)

Got some work on Sat for £75 (about £60 after tax, I might just bung that in as well, cheat  :P)

It is all going a bit wrong, I am bleeding cash like I am a millionaire and it means nothing.

First thing; casinos on poker websites are the worst thing ever, so bye bye black belt bankroll.

My full tilt bank roll still exists and is at $35.04 not much movement here.

My Stars bankroll is $332.64 I am still bleeding money on cash and sng"s aren"t going very well either. So stop for today.

really disappointed to be honest just not running well at all.

total cash profit is $72 from a high of $176 and I have moved down to NL10.

So I have given up cash for a bit and Stars was doing my head in. So I thought I would take a stab at some sats on Full Tilt.

First one I loaded up was a $3.50 +30c PLO HU shoot out with 64 runners, to sat into the FTOPS PLO $216 buy in.

I didnt expect to get too far which is a bit silly when doing a spin up but I think my game has come on enough that if i get some luck i"ll take it down.

So down to 8 runners and I was facing the FTOPS XIII NLHE HU champ, suprised to see him at $3 but oh well, NNNobodYYY. Schooled him lol and then got to the final two.

so its a $4.20 profit or a $212.20 profit. after a tense start I managed to get the guy onto my game and got him with a rivered full house for most of his stack it was then just a bit of patience and boom seat in the bag

unreg and add to the BR tyvm :)

im not converting it to cash at the second as I am going to play a few more tournaments and a 5% charge puts you off. So after an annoying couple of days

Totaliser +$579.88 and a big smile on my face  ;D

Very well done, I wouldn"t be able to resist the chance of a $216 PLO game but yours is probably the sensible option.

Final update.

The spin up is over, nooooo not because I lost it all but because time is up and I was pretty much on the target.

I originally set out to get £425 and I got to £380 in the alloted time frame.

and all of this mainly on Pokerstars and Full Tilt

I definitely learn"t a few things whilst playing this though;

Mixed PLO/NLHE is my favourite variant
I like PLO8 too
I"m a PLO HU champ  ::)
I"m not great at cash (you might say I either suck, run bad or both)
I"m better than average at Sit and Gos
I"m not bad at MTT"s either
I can do bankroll management
I am probably too nitty with my stake sizes
Badugi is pure gamble but is fun

So their you have it.

A big thanks to those who have supported me in the many ways that you have. Special mentions go to Stuart (SirPercival), Chris (hiamchris) and Ger (the duke).

I"ll have to think of another blog series shortly, but I have plenty to do as the new League Southern Division controller.

Oh and staking opportunities available if you wish to invest  ;) ;D :-*

I am looking to play the £110 FO at the international tonight for the London Poker Masters.

I can put in £66 (which came from my winnings last night) and I am willing to sell up to 40% of me £44, prefer blocks of 10% but any other combos considered.

edit all gone.

I recognised your name from the seat draw but what I couldn"t manage was putting together the name, the face and the online name; that"s where I failed.
