Post by: AVFC.WILSON on February 21, 2010, 15:01:49 PM

You are correct, the system has now changed whereby you have to be logged into your Betfair poker account.  At 9pm sharp a tournament will appear in the lobby where you can register for a seat to the live event.  It will be on a first come first served basis until they are all sold out.

Ticket price is £75 which is approx $120 which u will need to have in your a/c to be able to purchase a seat.

It"s not confirmed yet, but it would be logical that it would be done through the Betfair lobby in the same way the remaining amateur seats will be sold.

The only way you would be able to purchase two tickets is if you used two separate Betfair accounts eg yours and your friends to purchase seats.

Your friend would need a Betfair account to be able to purchase a seat as it would be allocated against their account name.

So whats the deal with interns then this year? are they allowed still?
Pretty sure these are just people that turn up on the day. fair enough some are APAT members that didn"t get a ticket in the clickfest but random people in the casino on the day that have a spare bit of cash can join....
John Kay went on to win the tournament in Bolton but i"m pretty sure was not and APAT or BLSQ member at the time?

APAT is open to everyone, including new members at any time, whether it be online or local players in the casino who is hosting the APAT event and are lucky enough to get in as an alternate when they show interest in the event taking place in their local.

I saw something mentioned about it on another thread and I think that it"s anyone who plays in ANY tournament held by apat (live or online) or anyone who has reg"d on website. Not 100% sure though...

If you don"t mind me asking, why? This isn"t the Online Amateur Poker and Association Tour, and not everybody uses the internet.

This is the sole criticism I have of APAT, yet I can"t think of a solution. Some people solely use cash, aren"t technologically advanced, and as such this rules them out of even trying to attempt to play APAT. Just a pity there"s no real solution for this.

The simple fact is, anybody that doesn"t use the internet these days does so through choice imo. If you don"t have a computer and even if you don"t know how to use one you can go to most local libraries throughout the UK and get free internet access and be shown how to use the computers. It only takes two seconds to sign up, you don"t need to spend anymore time online than that. Before my great-gran died last year she was using the internet regularly at 90yrs old, and she only learned how to do so at 88! If she done it, anybody can. The vast majority of people in the UK can get online if they really want to. The same thing goes with Credit Cards, you don"t even need a credit card in fact - I"ve always used my debit card attached to my regular bank account when loading money onto poker sites. And anyone who doesn"t have a bank account is living in the dark ages, how do they get paid for work etc?

Myself and hundreds of others travel from all over the country to attend APAT events and go to the effort to do so. My main gripe with this subject came when I found out local folk not associated with APAT could just turn up to the speciality series this season on the day and play in the events if they so wish. I think priority should be given to the people who have made the effort to register already, satellite or buy into the main event and in most cases travelled distances and made hotel arrangements to be at the event. Most popular local casinos or poker clubs could fill these events on a Sunday no problem without any APAT players being involved. That"s where my main gripe comes from. I"m not saying anyone should be disallowed to enter, APAT is open to everyone to play if they so wish but there should be some sort of proper procedure to join and local players (who are not yet APAT members) should be given some sort of advance warning to join should they want to play in any of the events.

Just my opinion though.
Title: Re: Season 4 - Swansea

"if they really want to", thats just it Chris they may not want to USE the internet, its personal preference.

As for people at the local casino getting in as an alternate, they have every right to become a member of APAT just like you and I did, and if there is a space available via an alternate on the day then I see no reason why that person can"t play, after all we all have to start as an APAT member somewhere.

It shouldn"t matter how or where you become an APAT member.

My belief to becoming a member is either by registering via APAT website, playing an online game gets you an auto membership, so therefore, playing a live game would make you an auto member also, even if it is the next day you sign up for the forum.

Many people travel down to the events in the hope of still getting into the tournament as an alternate, I"m talking regular APAT members who play, and a lot of them are successful but when the alternate list is opened and people put their name down, having a new local individual sign up can only be good for APAT overall as they hopefully will become a regular player, join in with the forum and be welcomed like everyone else to the APAT community.

As for the speciality series, I would imagine APAT will have an APAT members register first policy, but I can"t confirm that as I do not know.

I agree, you shouldn"t be compelled to use the internet to be a member, there"s no reason for any poker player to have to use the internet, so there"s no reason for an APAT member to have to either

Ideally I wouldn"t want people to have to join Betfair to preregister for the events either, but I do have some idea of how much hassle payment processing is in general for any organisation, so I can fully understand why it could be allowed as a necessary evil

Fair points Mary but i"m not discouraging anybody from joining, I"ve brought a good few members to APAT and referred to lots more. I realise we"ve all got to start somewhere but when I joined I thought the registration process was by joining the forum (that was feedback I got at time of joining) and I did so before playing any APAT event. It doesn"t really matter anyway, APAT will always be growing I just think there should be some set out way of registering prior to playing. Like I said, my main gripe is with the specialist series as I thought this was introduced as an event for APAT members who had travelled and made arrangements to be there for two days but had went out in first day. I don"t even think these events should be closed off to outside players I just think APATers should be given priority to get on the list for these games should they not progress past day 1.
Title: Re: Season 4 - Swansea

If you give APAT players priority the games will be full before we arrive, or at least by the end of ME day 1.

By allowing locals to register for an event on an equal footing does in some way recompense them for having their card room overrun for the weekend by what might be perceived as a closed shop. Perceived being the operative word of course coz I"m not saying we are. "I come here week in week out and now I"m told I can"t play....."

I do think this is also a great way of spreading the word and increasing the membership.

It was fun in the team championship day 2 mixing with the locals on THEIR sunday afternoon game. I think this should work both ways. Keep it open.
Title: Re: Season 4 - Swansea
Post by: CrizzyConnor on February 24, 2010, 17:23:34 PM
The Sunday games were concieved as something for APATers to do on the Sunday were they not? I have differing opinions to you but it doesn"t really matter anyway. As far as i"m concerned the card room is being compensated by our wonderful sponsors, it is therefore their responsibility to inform their regular players that they should sign up in advance or make room for other tournaments for them. Don"t get me wrong I had good fun playing with the locals in Walsall and i"m not oppossed to these players being involved, even a few seats being kept aside for live satellites for the local players being inconvenienced at each venue like Sky Poker are doing on their tour, I just think there should be some sort of procedure to join.
Title: Re: Season 4 - Swansea

I agree - a procedure is a necessity.

My procedure would involve reserving an equal number of seats for APAT players as locals to register into, until a certain time when it becomes open to all.

It was to give busto"s something to do on the Sunday I know that - but this does take even more resource away from the locals so it makes sense to think about them too. I"m not saying my idea is any good or anything but do feel we shouldn"t get too possessive about these tourney"s.

Exactly, so there"s really no registration process and we"re just a poker tour like the GUKPT and membership is therefore meaningless in a sense. I"m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, I"m just saying.

Just my 2pence worth !!! :D
As others have altready stated the extra tourneys for the sunday were started for APAT members who were knocked out on the 1st day ( GREAT IDEA ), I think that they should get 1st preference but also keep a few seats for the local players who are usually a great bunch of people, how this would be done I don"t know but you can"t please everyone otherwise there would be 400 players at every tourney LOL  :D Also for anyone wanting to play a tourney as an alternate they should be registered 24hrs before the tourney starts and not at the casino, People will disagree with me but there you go , ah well ???

That is, for better or worse, exactly where we are now. It could be argued that anyone with a PokerStars (S1), BlueSq (S2) or BetfairPoker (S3) accounts is an APAT member. I think we than add in the G/Grosvenor group players and we"ve conquered the world.

The only defining provable, criteria was, IIRC, being a member of this forum and giving APAT your email address.

Until they hand out APAT Membership Cards (and seriously, who needs another bit of plastic?), we"re stuck with what we have.

After all that, Speciality Series comps for Main comp bustos only...please! ===> Unabashed self interest.

To be honest, I"m not sure. Betfair will have your name on file linked to your player name there. I would assume that they"ll provide the full name to APAT.

In case of doubt, check the player lists here when they are published.

At 9pm, both the holding tank tournaments become open for registration (Status changes from announced to registering).  You will then be able to register.  Once the capacity is filled, no one else will be able to register.

The start time of these tournaments is not relevant, as all buyins will be held and then paid out in Swansea as cash.

There will be a player briefing issued nearer the event but kick-off is usually 2.30 sharp (IIRC).

You"ll need to do the usual membership bits before being allowed in so leave some time for that.

I expect to be there from about 1 o"clock (well actually Friday night :)) for some lunch and to see Des at the bar.....heh!

If your not a member of aspers allow time for registration, should only take 5 minutes max. but with quite a few other people im guessing also wanting to register allow a bit longer.

normal off time is 2.30pm but season 4 may have changed now that there are less runners competing

One point to understand why did my £250 buy-in cost me £261.37? yes I know the dollar has gone south over the last week but it was advertised as a £250, I expect it will all go in the pot or Des will buy a round or three or a tip for Tighty.

Possibly one of the little discrepancies that will pop up with a new site, could be embarrassing for someone who only loads the buy-in and finds themselves screwed on the clickfest.

Looking forward to playing the whole season, because of work I ain"t going to get to Vegas but only once this year and that probably at the end of the year.

Come on Des do a season ticket for all the events I"d buy one tomorrow.

Good hunting all, have a great season.

I played in the SKY Poker event there last May and it is definately wear what you like within reason. Most were fairly well dressed in the eveing but the vast majority of players wore T-shirts and jeans, not sure about trainers but I would say no. It"s an excellent venue but beware that Wind Street closes between 7pm and 7am on Weds, Thurs, Fri and Sat due to the sheer number of pissed up punters about. It"s a bit like Beruit around 3am!!

Sorry for the confusion guys, the lobbies on both events had the $ buyin and we"ll ensure that is communicated for the next events.  All of the money goes to the casino, so the payouts will be slightly higher also.
Title: Re: Season 4 - Swansea
Post by: AMRN on February 26, 2010, 08:52:37 AM

OK I understand that this is just an issue of exchange rate fluctuation between the time when the tournament was advertised, and when it went on sale, and that has caused the converted buy in to be slightly higher than the GBP value advertised...... BUT.....

One point to understand why did my £250 buy-in cost me £261.37?

£261.39 for me.

....why the heck does it cost one person 2p more than another person?? Surely the exchange rate fluctuations aren"t applied by the split second?   I appreciate it"s only 2p, but even so....

I played in the APAT European Championships in Luton in November and there were almost 200 runners.  It appears that there will not be anywhere near that number for this years nationals.  Is this because of the addition of the professional tournament and, if so and those tournaments do not fill up are there any plans for additional seats for the amateur events?  It seems the clickfest for Swansea yesterday had only 61 seats available.
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere on the forum.

I don"t want to cause any panic but ......

As I live within a reasonable distance and as I"ve not been to Aspers before I thought I"d go this weekend to register in advance and play a regular tourney to get familiar with surroundings. I rang them up to check what ID I"d need and what poker tourneys were on this weekend. The girl was very helpful but said - they have no record of the APAT tourney the following weekend.

I assume this was just a lack of communication or has anybody else had same feedback ?

I received the following email from betfair on 2nd March, but haven"t received any more info. Should I have?

"Congratulations on securing your seat to the Welsh Amateur Championships.

The Welsh Amateur Championships is a two day event, starting on 20th March at Aspers Casino, Swansea.

- Is there a list of players I can see for the Swansea event?

- I heard the NCP car park next to the casino has a sign saying that it closes at 11.59pm. Does anyone know if that means no more cars in after that time or no cars in or out? Don"t really want to sleep in the car until they open the barriers in the morning!!

APAThetic has asked half of my question for me but can APAT confirm the following?

When will the final numbers be known and made public for the Amatuer Event?
When will the player briefing be issued?
What will the prize structure be? Has this changed from last year?
How many seats are available for the Amatuer event at the UK Open in April not including those "held back" - i.e. how many are up for grabs via the satellites & Click Fest?
Who invented liquid-soap and why?

Thanks is advance

Thanks for that Keith. I phoned casino and they confirmed that they would give us a code to get through the door into the car park after midnight and then the "shutters" would open to let your car out when you enter your parking ticket at the exit.

Only concern now is finding the entrance to the car park...dodgy one-way system apparantly and finding a space at midday on a Saturday  :-\

I played at Aspers last year and as there was a hefty queue at reception they just waved non members through saying reg later if you cash. I walked through with a smile on my face only for it to be wiped off later when i hit the promotional 888 on the 3 card poker table 3 TIMES losing a potential £24 of boozing money  >:(

The buy-in arrangements for the Specialist Series (Omaha) haven"t been formalised but direct buy-in at the Casino seems to be the most likely option.

You may be able to buy-in on the Sunday but I suspect that it will sell out on Saturday given the interest expressed already.

Your choice as to whether to take the chance.

The Omaha is likely to be popular, and may well fill up on saturday. Its possible that players still in the main event could register for the Omaha then unregister or transfer their seat if they make day 2. It would be helpful if APAT could confirm whether this practice would be allowed. If so I imagine a waiting list is likely, and perhaps alternatives allowed for the first couple of levels.

Not speaking for APAT but if players still in the Main Event have registered for the Omaha, it is my understanding that they will be REQUIRED to unregister from the Specialist Event as multi-tabling will not be permitted.

However, the pool of players left in the ME who have also registered for the Omaha is likely to be quite small.

That is something I would suggest that you ring Aspers and find out. I don"t think children would be allowed into the gaming area.

I"ve not been there but he"d probably be allowed to wait in the reception area for a few minutes. Better than leaving him in the car.

Do we actually know what the prize structure will be?

Amateur (proposed payout sent from me to Des, to be finalised on Saturday if we add tables or alternates)

£ prize pool sent to Aspers from Betfair (entries in $, converted back at Wednesday"s exchange)

100 runners

10 paid (ten handed final)

£ payouts

1 30%
2 20%
3 15%
4 to 10 5%

£7093.93 prize pool sent to Aspers from Betfair (entries in $, converted back at Wednesday"s exchange)

hmmmmm 100 runners at $120 each = $12,000.... converts to £7093.93 at a rate of $1.69 per £1

If I sit at a cash table on Betfair, my GBP bankroll is converted to $ at a rate of $1.52 per £1

Seems to be a discrepancy there (significantly in Betfair"s favour)....?

Edit. 10 players short on the Prize Pool above

Erm..at the risk of asking a question that might be embarrassing someone...I assume Betfair will pay the extra £750 into the Prize Pool on the day?

Player list needs up dated. David Blane exchanged seats last week and confirmed on board, sure Crizzy Connor did too.

There may be others.

I still await confirmation of swap with Blatch also.

As there is no player briefing, can you confirm the following:
- KO is 2.30pm
- What time should I turn up to give time to take seat etc
- What happens if I"m late, am I just blinded off until I arrive, or do I lose my seat immediately?
- Is there really 1k behind the bar, "cos it might be the tie-breaker on whether I drive or not  :P

Thanks,

See you all saturday....and welcome to Wales!!

PS Don"t forget to pay when you enter  ;D

How is the tv streaming going to work? Is there going to be a "feature table", or just a roaming camera? Will it be active during the full tourny, or just later on?

PS What time do the make-up girls turn up....It"s not my first time on tv..I know about these things  ;)

Hi all,

Desperately trying to get in on the APAT Welsh National tomorrow (today, now), and clearly did not know of any clickfests or whatever you guys do at this time of year. Therefore, any advice on what time alternates will be accepted from? Also, a likely number of processed alternates after 90 mins? I can"t see too many people exiting from losing a 10k stack... Of course, if you guys can"t give me solid answers I will phone Aspers tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Presume that you mean for the £75 event.  Alternates list will start at 12pm. Usually manage to get 2 or 3 alternates in, but this is a smaller field (only 100 runners), so not sure if this will have an effect on this.

Thanks a lot for that - I phoned Aspers and they told me 2pm, which I considered to be a lot of bunk, and so was going to hedge my bets with 1pm. 12pm it is; thanks again.
