Title: $20 SATELLITE ON BETFAIR - 22/2
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on February 22, 2010, 11:37:32 AM
OK.....I am sure that I am once again being a thick Yam-Yam.......but it is now 11.37 am and so the satellite starts in 8 hours and 23 mins.
So I am now on Betfair Poker and in 8 hours and 23 mins in the tournament section there is.....ermmmm........no APAT event !
Can someone please enlighten me as to where it is hidden ?

I could call you a thick Yam-Yam Brian, but this time you are right.

They are being put up as we speak.  You should already see the two holding tanks for the Amateur and Pro events.

The satellites are on their way.    ;D

Leigh

Have you looked into the Friday satellite yet? Is it going to be a $20 sat for a $50 game?

Apologies if this has been covered already but is it correct that there is an on-line satellite this Friday for $20 into the $50 on-line event on Saturday?

Is this for both events on Saturday or just one, as seems a bit steep for a $50 seat, as might aswell just buy in.

It is correct and it is just for the $50 NLHE.

We would normally run more sats for the online events, but everything has had to be squeezed in this week.  The $20 sats have been very popular in the past, and although the seat is a $50, we think it should be okay.

We will review the satellites for online events prior to the next events.

I think this is a bit steep; $20 is still too much for some. The idea of sats is so all bankrolls have a chance of playing at a higher level without the cost. $5/$10 should be about right.

agree, a satty that pays one place for evry 2.5 entries does seem a bit daft. Why not make it a $25 sat and we can have a DoN foldfest? ???
Title: Re: TONIGHTS $20 SATELLITE ON BETFAIR
Post by: AMRN on February 22, 2010, 17:15:57 PM
I do agree re the $20 sat for a $50 sat...... but to play devil"s advocate, I have to say, if one doesn"t like it, one doesn"t have to play! does one!?  In fact, one could watch Coronation Street on Friday night instead!
Title: Re: TONIGHTS $20 SATELLITE ON BETFAIR
Post by: Chipaccrual on February 22, 2010, 17:25:24 PM
There is one benefit from this particular satellite.  It doesn"t have a reg fee.

As there is no cap on the number of entries for Saturday, you could arguably play a $25 Double or Nothing on Betfair to get to your $50.

Or a $10 SNG would get you to $50.

As I have posted elsewhere.  This is a one off due to having to fit a lot of satellites into one week, and the $20 ones are normally very popular.

For future online events, we will have more satellites running.

Hey Suz xx

I had same problem, however got over this as follows:

When you click on your account you get a message asking if you want to only download the secure info as some of the info may be loaded through an unsecure http.

You need to choose the no option, I did and had no problems from there.

Hope this helps

What a joke... Betfair want me to confirm my age by scanning in documents, sending them documents or showing them a credit card.

A. I dont have a credit card
B. I dont have a scanner
C. If I send them my details through the post I will miss all the satelites.

They were fine when I registered and were OK taking my money when I deposited! I"m registered for the satelite but will have to find out if I can play or not.

Not happy!!!!

Most poker sites require members to verify their age.

If you have a digital camera it is possible to take a photo close up of the documents and email them?

Well I am registered in the satelite and still logged into betfair"s poker lobby, so I will just leave it open and hopefully the game will load. If the "Click fest" is on betfair like I understand it is then I might not even be able to get in that way either. Don"t think that photo will be accepted, its hard to make out  >:(

I am sorry but this is the norm with a lot of poker rooms nowadays and it is in place to protect the customer, I am sure you would be a little more than "Not Happy" if someone cleared out your creditcard without you knowing,.,

They are not confirming its my own card. I would understand that. They want me to prove I am 18 AFTER I have registered, AFTER they have taken my £100 and AFTER I have registered for a comp. They then only tell me of the problem 1 hour before the game starts. Thats what has put me on life tilt

If you are in at the moment, then see what happens when the tourney starts.

You should be able to get them the info they want.

Just get off life tilt before you start playing, otherwise it could be a short satellite for you.   ;D

Yeah it does look like I will be able to play, it hasn"t kicked me out of the lobby and im still registered, so fingers crossed!!
If it doesn"t let me play then they need to give me my buyin back or they would be taking money from a "Minor" as thats what they are saying I am. All will become as clear as mud in 5 mins  ::)

To assist in decyphering the aliases suggest we post name and (regional club if appropriate) on your table once tourney is up and running.

It would  certainly save me lots of cross referencing.

Shite, Shite and Shite.

99 on J66 flop, I bet, get re-raised x4. Doesn"t make sense to me so I go all in vs KQ and Q on turn of course >:(

I then push my 6bbs with Q3 suited into Swinebag"s KK ::) I suck out hitting a Q then 3 on turn but Rob re-sucks on river with a third K. NH, GG, WP. GL to all who are still playing. I wont be playing any more sats so if I fail in clickfest then i"ll not be there.

First chance to properly play there in a while and Betfair"s software is, dare I say it, worse than Blue SQ. I can"t imagine multi-tabling on it. Can we switch back please - I promise I wont moan about iPoker again :o the saying "don"t know what you"ve got till it"s gone" springs to mind. Although to be fair, we did just leave iPoker as it was beginning to finally sort itself out :-X

Thought I"d been bad beat untill I counted the outs.

Nope not really, iPoker was and still is fairly horrible compared to the market leaders.
However a couple of the main gripes with iPoker (timebanks and re-sizeable tables) were just recently sorted.
I"m not alone in my opinion, a few friends also playing think the same and I"m sure many more here do too.

I"m thankful to Betfair for their sponsorship which far outstrips what BlueSQ put in but the software is pretty horrible.

$120 equates to approximately £79ish, it will be worked out by the APAT Team/Betfair.  All monies will be put towards the prize pool in Swansea.

Just received this email from Betfair:

Dear Jeldon,

Congratulations on your performance in the APAT Welsh $20 Satellite #352401.

You have now qualified for the APAT Welsh Holding Tank #352399 which will take place at 21:00 GMT on Thursday 18-Mar-2010.(Isn"t this date wrong?)

You will find this tournament in the "Tourney Lobby", and you can link easily to it by visiting your previous satellite and clicking the link to the next level.

If you experience any problems finding your tournament please contact our 24hr customer service team.

I wouldn"t worry too much about the date being incorrect, in effect it is a holding account for your seat which will be converted by Betfair/ APAT on the day at the Casino (probs before.)

A full list of runners will be published by the APAT team once all sats and clickfest have completed.

Only then, if your name doesn"t appear should you worry.

One question for the team,

if a seat is won and you are in the holding tank, can you unregister and take the dosh? And if so, would you be able to reregister Not my intention but thought it worth asking, some already satted in may wish to try again and take the dosh. I"ve no problem with that as it can create extra seats. Hope that makes sense.

One question for the team,

if a seat is won and you are in the holding tank, can you unregister and take the dosh?
Geo

I would have a real problem with anyone qualifying via a satellite and then selling the seat for any reason other than they are unable to make it.

If they have any other reason then they are denying other players of the opportunity to satellite into the main comp.

Anyone  qualifying and then selling on is effectively re-pricing the seat from $20 to $120+ and that"s just wrong.

But if you are good at sats and play them well, are you not within your right to sell your seat. Not that I am any good..

Isn"t that very much against the APAT ethos, I remember quite an argument during the European sats on this subject and most people agreed, that once qualified, steer clear to enable others to qualify without you or I playing against them with a whole different game mindset.

My opinion only, but as for playing sats on different sites I"ve played and won before then sat in again ie PokerStars Sunday million.... not a problem but not for APAT

Cheers Ian

The tournament was a sat to the Welsh Open in Swansea on 20th March - end of story.

If one just wanted to win $120 there were plenty of other tournaments available to play.

If I had ended up 12th last night only to find that one of the 11 qualifiers never had any intention of going to Swansea I would be well peed off.

Yes, I agree it is against the APAT ethos.

The question wasn"t about selling their seat, it was whether they could unregister and take the money and play further sats in the hope that they gain a seat again. if not, could they then re-register into the tank or would they have to go via the clickfest route.

By only quoting part of my question you have effectively gave an answer to a question that was not asked. Another reason I asked was that now the seats are held in a tank that anyone who may have satted but find that they cannot make it may in fact be able to unregister and receive the monies as opposed to going down the seat transfer route, giving the APAT team less work to do.

Hope this clears things up.

But that"s what is effectively happening. Why would they play the sat if they weren"t going to play in the main comp? If they unregister (without being unable to make it) then they have denied a potential satellite qualifier a shot and increased the price of the seat from $20 to $120 as that is what it will cost someone to acquire it from them...and that"s basically "selling" it.

I"d already said that I have no problem with anyone who cannot make it selling their seat via the exchange board (which AFAIK is the only approved route).

The holding tank is a locked tourney.  Once you qualify through a satellite, then you cannot unregister.

Once the remaining seats are sold on Thursday, we will have a complete player list for the event.

Should anyone have to give up their seat due to unforeseen circumstances, then the Seat Exchange Board will be available on the forum as it was for the previous season.

I"m not sure whether Betfair Poker will allow you to qualify for the same holding tank more than once, but these satellites are for qualifiying for an APAT live event, so once you have got your seat, there is no reason to try and satellite in again.  All you are doing is taking away the opportunity for another member to qualify.

You must be reading something else mate, I"ve never stated they had no intention of playing the live game.

Thanks for the response Leigh.

I know this is all a "what if" discussion (and Leigh's clarified it all) but if they satellite and then unregister to take the cash (which was the subject of your question)...that"s not having the intention to play the main comp...that"s satelliting to cash out.

...and if they unregister to satellite in again...I ask the question, why aren"t they just using the seat and playing another "non-APAT" tourney?

Anyway...[/whatever]

I know this is going over and over again,  I think what you are missing is that some people who are good at playing sats may want/try to play them as they may feel like they have an edge in APAT games or just in sats in general. They do this on a weekly basis on other sites like Stars & FT and use the cash/tournament $ to play other games. Its not something that is uncommon in online poker. And in all honesty it does create extra seats..

APAT stance is clear from last season i believe, but a question was asked if it was possible.

If someone wins a seat thro a sat it cost $20.

If they unregister they receive $120.

If they win a seat through another sat is irrelevant. The seat won at the first sat is now gone forever and can only be bought at $120.

This is acceptable on commercial sites, but is against the spirit of APAT - (IMHO)

Should I not have played the satellite as I won"t know for certain that I can play the event until March 14th? I see it as a good chance to let the Betfair software deal with APAT administrative work. Whoever is in the holding tank on the day of the event gets to play, seems reasonable to me.

You are fine to play the satellites.  If you win a seat, congratulations.  If you then find that you can"t make the event, then the seat exchange is there to assist you in selling your seat at face value to anothe member.

Not a problem.

No, in  that case, you played the sat with the intention of playing the main comp. In the situation Geo was discussing, the player was DELIBERATELY playing the sat with sole intention of making a profit.

If that was the intention then that player should GTFO and play a "non-APAT" tourney and win that to make their profit.

Regardless, rivertaff nailed it.

I think you will find that this happened last year, and there was a long thread on whether it was etical or not. In fact I got chewed off for trying to get a response from someone who had qualified in the Monday comp, and was playing in the same comp the following evening. His explanation was that he entered both comps together therefore was going to play.
This brought about a discussion that his playing style was subject to change, because he had already qualified

Fair point in my view

Weeeeee, you finally got it mate and for what its worth I agree.

I was actually asked the question from someone else and thought it against the ethos of APAT and said so but thought it worth having clarified.

I don"t think it"s so cut and dried. I played knowing I have x% chance of taking the profit. I assumed I could simply unreg, in fact that"s why I had no concern about playing the satellite, but if I have to do the seat exchange I"ll want $120.

My feeling is if you have rules/ethics that differ from what"s technically possible so that you can"t distinguish between misfortune and abuse then the rules are poor.

But it seems it"s decided so fair enough. Fwiw playing style wouldn"t change; it"s a satellite, you either win or you don"t.

OK, perhaps I worded that wrong.

I"m happy with anyone playing the sat if they intend to play the main comp IF POSSIBLE (as you indicated).

The emphasis, perhaps, should have been on the words SOLE INTENTION in my objections.

Of course, the situation can be abused (regardless of the rules...otherwise it wouldn"t be abuse :)) but we should strive to point out the potential issues so that the rules/procedures can be adjusted accordingly.

I have added a new card but when I try to deposit i get a "navigation to the webpage is canceled". I am guessing something on my PC is blocking it. Anyone know how to get round it?

Hey Suz xx

I had same problem, however got over this as follows:

When you click on your account you get a message asking if you want to only download the secure info as some of the info may be loaded through an unsecure http.

You need to choose the no option, I did and had no problems from there.

Hope this helps

Geo

thanks for the info, tried it and works a treat , many thanks again
