Booked the Excelsior
rebooked my flights and wrote off the original booking ::) - (£11 more to change than for a new booking FFS)
flying from liverpool to Barcelona on 14th January 2011 @ 12.20
flying back on Monday 17th January 2011 @ 12.25
if this coincides with anyone we can sort out limos etc..... ;D

return at 10.05 am on 17th
double room at Gran casino hotel
shuttle from airport
including baggage charge
(small extra charge if you want for breakfast or more etc )
Total price 204.46 for two
doesnt seem too bad, looked at reviews for hotel ( not to good ) but heh only there for the poker LOL
havent decide yet but we shall see :P
there are other hotels but this is the cheapest

Pending a deal from the Monterrey, I"ve booked the Excelsior too for a paltry £130 (without brekky).
Twin room so if anyone want"s the other bed, let me know and I"ll add you to the list of potential bedmates...wait, that came out wrong! ;D

It kinda depends on getting to Heathrow (which, frankly, is a pain in the proverbial for the departure time).
Of course, I might splurge on a overnight hotel at the airport the night before...we"ll see.
I"ll see what my options are vis-a-vis other departure airports.

I stayed here for a couple of nights about a year ago, all inclusive for next to nothing, but the downside is that it must be the worst place i"ve ever stayed, think of the worst pub in your area, then double it and then more, the rooms have walls that are so thin its scary. the food is un edible, but its cheap. Good luck if you stay there.

Have you seen the size of the average APATer? I doubt you"d get 4 of them in a "Ka". Current plan, at least for me, is to take a Shuttle Van from Barcelona Airport to my hotel. About £20 return according to what I was quoted.

I have been looking on line at the moment and I can get a deal for 3 nights at the casino for £149 including flights.
Do you think this is a good deal but arrive Girona at 18.10 local time from Gatters

I stayed here for a couple of nights about a year ago, all inclusive for next to nothing, but the downside is that it must be the worst place i"ve ever stayed, think of the worst pub in your area, then double it and then more, the rooms have walls that are so thin its scary. the food is un edible, but its cheap. Good luck if you stay there.
I checked it out when doing my research and it got some pretty bad write-ups..(the above is typical),
Obviously it is a budget option but if that"s a factor for you then make your own decisions.

Juan...the Spanish Team Captain is Richard"s contact at the venue and only returned from holiday yesterday.
I believe that Tighty is still hopeful of getting a negotiated rate. I believe that many of us have made refundable bookings.
...but that is a very nice deal. ;D

or train to glasgow and fly into girona around about the same time same price
this leave me with a £40 taxi from girona or £120 taxi from barca and the £50 train fare to the airport
flying with BA is £190 flight but means i will be in around the same time as everyone else

I"ve posted before the arrival times for various people and tried to group them roughly around the same times so that people can group themselves. I will NOT be making group bookings.
I suggest that everyone make their own individual bookings (via the link I gave) and let the Shuttle company group them how they want.
My GUESS is that they"ll go every hour or so (depending on bookings) but that"s up to them.
If my shuttle goes as soon as I rock up then I"ll be propping up the bar at the Excelsior so much earlier.

As the Stockton Rock is saying he"s coming now (he"s hopefully booking flights this evening) I"ve booked up into the Excelsior, good times and with a sea view too.
Still working on Gary Palmer as well so maybe 3 of us coming. Might be clashing with his possible "Total Wipeout" filming in Argentina though, I was supposed to be going to the auditions with him this weekend.. then thought.. jumping into mud and massive red balls in Argentina.. or an APAT adventure in Spain. No contest...

There"s definitely me and Matty (stockton rock), plus maybe Gary Palmer and Stu"s trying to get some time off work. So the Stockton massive will be definitely 2, maybe 4.
More than happy to group shuttle it over there or get a mini bus together. I"ll try and get Gary and Stu to confirm ASAP so we can organise it.

Just a word of caution regarding hotels booked on-line using laterooms or other types of middle-site. Call the hotel direct a week or so before departure to confirm the room. There have been several reports of local hotels having sold the room (especialy for late arrivals) The local hotel blames the web-site and vice-verca.

I"m not organising the shuttles mate, I just point you in the direction of the link (http://www.shuttledirect.com/en/airport/BCN) to make your own bookings.
It"s a pretty easy process (although I"d use internet Explorer rather than any other browser). You plug in your flight details and it knows your arrival and departure times and then you select your hotel from a list.
Once you get the confirmation, make sure you print the vouchers as you"ll have to sign them and take them with you (it says). My guess is that there is a desk at the airport where we rock up, they sort us into appropriate groups and load us up when they have enough.

Not being used to democracy (see Chezger) this is foreign territory (sic). However, I propose that we install a tour guide for every overseas jaunt we undertake in the name of APAT. I think we need a strong hand at the tiller to keep the drunken rabble in line.
Therefore hands up for Paulie to be the "Tour Leader" for Lloret de Mar. He is highly qualified.
He knows the travel industry inside out (only one little boat trip hiccup we will overlook)
He drinks like a fish (handy for social planning and extra curriculum activities)
He is fluent in most European Languages (at least knows enough to get by in the more classy establishments)

Basic Plan #1 - Friday - Reconnaissance is key
Food
Meat and plenty of it. I"m think of a restaurant I"ve heard of (doing some research) called Tobago. A steakhouse I"m advised (at least by TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g494960-d995683-Reviews-Tobago-Lloret_de_Mar_Costa_Brava_Catalonia.html)).
Nothing like a good stuffed stomach to set you up for a night"s...ahem...entertainment. About a 10-15 minute walk (I think) from the Excelsior at Josep Togores, 10, 17310 Lloret de Mar, Spain for them"s that might want to map it (http://goo.gl/maps/GErG).
It"s also pretty central for Lloret for those who aren"t at the "APAT Excelsior Crash Pad".
Drink
A short (I sincerely hope) waddle to Gerry"s Bar for a session. About halfway between Tobago and the Excelsior (map it (http://goo.gl/maps/99u7) if you must).
Other Entertainment
Interestingly...or not, there does not seem to be much on the interwebz about entertainment for "gentlemen" in Lloret de Mar. This may be because of the wealth of discos/nightclubs that abound where the pretty young things will gather in the high season.
Off season...I have no idea. The closest I can find...and I"ve strained a wrist and ruined my eyesight looking (;D) is the Aztek (http://www.aztekdisco.com/) which (rumour has it) striptease & wet t-shirt nights. I can"t find too much on this anyway.
Whatever, I"m way to old for that nightclubbing/disco nonsense...unlike some (cough) like Des & Tighty.
Frankly...after Gerry"s I"ll wend my way back to the Excelsior..if I happen to stumble into the odd hostelry on the way..so be it.
Of course...the best laid plans and all that...but that"s what I"m doing...if you choose something different...I hope to pass you in the street.

Good times. Google maps tells me that excelsior to aztec takes approx 19 seconds in a taxi (approx 150m) away.. almost staggerable that is ;D

I understand that the White Horse (http://www.lloret-de-mar-stuff.com/white-horse-pub.php) serves a large full English..plus Guinness for the extra vitamins. A stroll down the front to the White Horse should take about 5 minutes or so and from there it"s a 10 minute walk (pretty much straight north) to the Casino.
I expect the walks involved here to serve as a decent recon for the nights entertainment. Of course, I expect a fair amount of time to be spent at the tables in the casino bar but at too many APAT events I see nothing of the area. I intend (feet permitting) to rectify this in Lloret.
Drink
No specific plans but The Seven Seas might be a thought...not far from the White Horse...before evening food. I think the Route 66 is close to there too.

As a devotee of the Chrome / Android thing I love me stuff that might help me out.
There"s an extension available in Chrome called "Chrome to Phone"...install that and it put a button on your browser that will send a webpage (assuming you have a google acount) to your android phone.
Install the same app from the Android Market on your phone and when you push the button on your browser it fires it across to your android device which opens it up in it"s browser.
Doesn"t work the other way yet but it"s supposed to be coming.
I fired the 4 links (etc) across to my Desire and now they are available in the app history for instant access.
iPhone users...I could care less! ;D

Of course, we"re British tourists heading to a Spanish resort dominated by trade that caters to British holidaymakers and ex-pats....so, what"s your point? Anyway, Guinness is Irish.

With there being over 30 people going I can"t help but feel that there may be some self-guided tours of the local establishments.
I"ve only outlined a basic plan within everyone"s comfort range which will allow us to do some recce for the experiences you are seeking...can"t give too much away or there might be a flood of late entrants and Leigh might win the bet.
Regardless, I always try to engage the locals but sometimes they speak so funny it"s hard to make any headway... at least that"s been my experience in Swansea, Aberdeen, Coventry and Nottingham.
Vienna was OK as we had a helpful taxi driver to find the Austrian "culture". As for Dublin, we fully engaged in the Irish culture and never left Larry Murphys.
I understand that the lads engaged in some culture-spotting in Tallinn but I wasn"t there so I can"t confirm...DAMN IT!, DAMN IT!, DAMN IT!

I think this happens when they transfer the money to the venue...it"s usually deducted again and then refunded (!) but perhaps they"re going about it differently this time. It all sorts itself out within 24 hours usually.

Nothing like a good stuffed stomach to set you up for a night"s...ahem...entertainment. About a 10-15 minute walk (I think) from the Excelsior at Josep Togores, 10, 17310 Lloret de Mar, Spain for them"s that might want to map it (http://goo.gl/maps/GErG).
It"s also pretty central for Lloret for those who aren"t at the "APAT Excelsior Crash Pad".
Drink
A short (I sincerely hope) waddle to Gerry"s Bar for a session. About halfway between Tobago and the Excelsior (map it (http://goo.gl/maps/99u7) if you must).
Other Entertainment
Interestingly...or not, there does not seem to be much on the interwebz about entertainment for "gentlemen" in Lloret de Mar. This may be because of the wealth of discos/nightclubs that abound where the pretty young things will gather in the high season.
Off season...I have no idea. The closest I can find...and I"ve strained a wrist and ruined my eyesight looking (;D) is the Aztek (http://www.aztekdisco.com/) which (rumour has it) striptease & wet t-shirt nights. I can"t find too much on this anyway.
Whatever, I"m way to old for that nightclubbing/disco nonsense...unlike some (cough) like Des & Tighty.
Frankly...after Gerry"s I"ll wend my way back to the Excelsior..if I happen to stumble into the odd hostelry on the way..so be it.
Of course...the best laid plans and all that...but that"s what I"m doing...if you choose something different...I hope to pass you in the street.

For those of you who fancy a fun weekend in Spain - easyjet holidays have flights leaving Liverpool at 7.15am Sat Morn and returning to Liverpool at 10.30pm Sun night, plus one night half board in some 3 star hotel - £235 for 2 people.
I would come out...but I can"t afford poker on top due to a wedding I have to save for, and I refuse to break my streak of attending an APAT event without either a) playing, or b) getting paid to be there.
In English, that means the wife (to be) won"t let me :(

Mrs B and I arrived in Lloret safe sound, sunny 16 degrees today but got cold this evening though not at all like the home version of COLD!!!!
Hotel (Excelsior) is really nice very modern decor and staff very friendly though they have been kept busy delivering beer out front to some geordie lad named Stu?
Looking forward to the troops arriving tomorrow.

All APATers seem to have arrived safely in LdM. I was expecting a sort of cross between Benidorm and Beruit but to be fair it"s not bad at all. Paulie, Pables and I had a fantastic paella last night in a back street restaurant which would rival anything anywhere. with a starter, garlic bread, wine and water as well, it was just 25 euro per head.
Can report that the Stockton Massive were in full voice until the early hours, particularly the chief scout who seems to think that everyone else is either deaf or very hard of hearing.
p.s. very interesting listening to a conversation between said chief scout and Colmcg. I"m absolutely certain neither could understand the other, I know I couldn"t. Both speaking Spanglais with funny accents....priceless. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

well done Robbie, perhaps if I hadn"t mentioned to him that he was going to be late he may have fared differently and of
course extremely unlucky Gary Palmer on making day 2 but not making the cash(it"ll come).
