Title: which club?
Post by: Shonky on October 30, 2010, 10:58:07 AM
Hi,I may be interested in getting involved with some events next year.  I see there are no clubs listed anywhere near Norwich, which is where I am.  Who would I need to register with?

Hello mate -For the fortnightly league events, Birmingham club is on the verge of a Div1 challenge, and Birmingham is reasonably close to Norwich (well it is when I look at the map of Britain in my AA diary anyway!!)....

you would be more than welcome in the Birmingham club - go here to join....  http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2390.0

You should play for who you"re geographically closest to, but Nottingham"s not too far away and we"d love to have you!

See here (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2400.msg38668#msg38668) for details

Hi Shonky,

Welcome to APAT.  The nearest club is probably Luton, and we would welcome you with open arms.  Currently Top of Division 2, having gained promotion last season from Div 3.  We regularly get a very good turn out for each matchday and we are a very active club, and have just held our first "live" tournament in the Gcasino, which we hope to run again soon.

Feel free to view the club on the link below,  and also below is the link to sign up as a member.

Next game is 31st October, on Betfair @ 8pm.

Welcome to APAT, you have reg"d with APAT that"s the best step taken so far, but beware of strangers with dodgy sounding handles offering you good times near an airport!

Maybe it"s just me, but I would hate to put myself in a position where I could be accused of being a glory-hunter.

No, your safest bet is to join a club that"s close enough to you and poised in the top half of the table for their second successive promotion.

That"d be APAT Notts then. Go on Shonky, you know it makes sense.

;D

Thanks for the replies.  I had to rule out Birmingham, which left notts and luton.  I"d be happy to play with either club but I"ve decided to register with Luton as they are the closest club as the crow flies, and also closer according to google route maps.  Not sure yet when my first match will be, but at some point i"ll see you all at the tables.

Out of interest, why did you have to rule out Birmingham? If it"s because of distance, I believe there are clubs with players from other European countries - so not sure that location rules are stringent......

I did read somewhere on here that players should join the club closest to them.  clearly the two closest clubs to me were luton and notts.

I think you have quite a few players who fall outside your jurisdiction, I believe the same can be said of Walsall

Welcome Shonky to Luton.  Please ensure you register your interest on our members club page before you play your 1st league for us.

Delighted you have chosen Luton, and welcome aboard and very much look forward to seeing you at the tables.

Yours Warren (Luton Capt)

I would like to acknowledge the "digs" on this thread, and other places where I have come across it within the forum towards our club and the location / distance of some of the Luton Poker club members, and it seems, the way I go about our continued recruitment efforts which clearly have niggled at some people.

Firstly I accept 100%, the "digs" are without a doubt within the APAT sprirt and 99.9% of the comments are purely banter, which I have taken as such and will continue to do so.

That said, for the sake of arguement, I"m sensitive to the issue, and would hate to think others are deemed "glory hunters" by joining our club just because we have a few more members than most at the present time.

As a result I have completed a mini survey of distance of our most active members (19 of them) and the distance between home and Luton.

We average 59miles, including our German friend, and 40miles without him.

Not sure how that pans with other clubs, but I"m sure we aren"t the worst.

Cheers,

Warren (Proud Luton Captain)
