Title: APAT Ladies Team anyone???
Post by: blowfly on November 06, 2010, 22:23:46 PM
I have put in a request for APAT to consider having a ladies team to represent them. I"ve sent a few of you facebook messages and had a positive response so, am biting the bullet.....

Please express your interest below if you"d like to be considered to participate in a ladies team. Please note you MUST be a bona fide female and ugly blokes in frocks will not be considered (you know who you are DAN!)

Let"s see if we can get enough players to put our hat in the ring for selection ....

To start the ball rolling I"m in ....

Think it"s a great idea and would jump at the chance if I weren"t already aiming for a spot with ChezGer.  Shouldn"t be a problem for ye filling a team though.  Run them ragged!

Can I please apply for a place in the ladies team. After all, ladies are allowed to apply for the other APAT teams so surely you wouldn"t be sexist and not allow men in your team.

;D

pretty sure the suggestion is to split the apat forum into two teams - one men and one women.  i might be wrong though.

To be fair, you were brilliant on our Ladies footy team back in the day.  Shame about the injury.   :D

The plan is to have two APAT teams, Champions and forum.

To have more is tricky because we anticipate being oversubscribed on requests for teams compared to spaces available.

Whilst we would love to accomodate as many APAT teams as possible, and there have been other requests for APAT teams too, one of the aims of the Championships is to promote APAT as widely as possible, and introduce some new communities who to date haven"t had too much exposure to APAT

So we have to balance that with the desires of many to have more than 2 APAT teams, and to celebrate all the diversity of APAT.

Now I"m not saying categorically no at this stage, but I don"t want you to be getting your hopes up, please

Sounds fair enough but I dont think Debs meant for an Apat Ladies team to be considered as an "Apat" team....more as a Ladies team who play Apat if you see what I mean :-/

I have already said I would be interested in playing in Debs team as it would be nice to woop some male ass but at the same time I would not want to qualify just because I have bigger tits than Dan Owston  ;D

I am trying to qualify for the blonde team which is no easy task but would happily give up my seat (if I qualified) to play in the Ladies team should we make the cut.

Debs, Max and I can hold our own against you lads and I am pretty sure we could get a few new members introduced into the team outside of Apat that will get you worried ;-)

Having a ladies team would be great, there are so many fantastic lady players within APAT who find it difficult each year to qualify to play on a team and are usually overlooked.

I know there are lots of forums out there wishing to gain one of the 25 team slots, but I hope that a ladies team will be considered, moreso as the ladies are 100% supporters of APAT week in week out and would love an opportunity to play this prestigous event.

I for one would be very interested in joining the ladies on this team and hope that the captain would consider me to play for them.

At risk of putting myself out there to be torn apart, I have to ask why a specific Ladies team is needed.

In football, rugby, athletics, and other such physical sports, there is a need to create gender specific competitions as physical differences separate male and female. I"m not sure what the physical differences are that separate us when it comes to a game of cards though, and therefore why there is a need to have a Ladies only team.

I play with a number of Ladies who are extremely good players, and who should all be striving to get into existing multi-sex teams, rather than trying to separate themselves by creating a Ladies only team. You"re all plenty good enough to make any of the existing teams - there"s really no need to create a new team for Ladies only to get a place in the competition.

I always question this whole Ladies only Poker thing anyway - in an inclusive society, I hate concepts that label and separate people by sex, race, colour, or creed.

All I see is a few of ladies wishing to form a team just like every other club/forum and hope that they are selected to play.  Im quite sure, In no way was Debs meaning it to be an "APAT" team

Yes Steve, but the wee thread we have on fb is not the same, and debs was going to amend her post.

As I suggested on the other thread, the only community which "binds" the players who would be on this team together is APAT.

However you choose to describe or name it, it would be an APAT team.

but you are not a club or forum, seperately...

It would be an APAT team, and we"re committed to two APAT teams only to allow as many other organisations in as possible, afaik.

Personally I dont care now, I was approached and supported debs as well as others when a post was placed for a tentative enquiry, this debate and slating is ridiculous now
Title: Re: APAT Ladies Team anyone???

I"m not sure anyone is slating anyone else to be fair

Or see how the debate is ridiculous

I understand everyone"s wish to play the event, but unless Des, Leigh and I change course (possible) the aim is to have two APAT teams and the rest from established clubs, forums, leagues

this unfortunately applies to the proposed Larry Murphy"s team, an APAT Ladies team or to the as yet secret but tricky to pick from "APAT over 20 stone blokes who like a drink" team.

I will gladly step aside this year and not even apply to play to allow others a chance of playing, I have been lucky to have represented a team the last 2 years.

And you"ve done the whole first out, last out thing.   ;D

You"d have to finish exactly 100th this year to keep it balanced out.

On a serious note though Mary, if you want to play in the event, and I"m sure most people do want to play, then you should not be put off in trying to get into a team, whether you have played before or not.

Mary - I don"t think anyone has suggested that you shouldn"t play.... not sure if you have mis-read comments or taken something personally when not intended to be so.

For my part, I was simply challenging the concept of a single sex, non-inclusive team - and I stand by that challenge, would challenge it in other poker related discussions, ie not just re APAT team competition.

Yourself, Deb, and other ladies on this thread who have expressed a desire to play all deserve to be in the shake-up for a place in any of the teams, the APAT team included. I don"t think you should exclude yourself.

No, not taken it personally, just feel that as I have played the last 2 years tourneys maybe I should step back and allow others a chance.  I just love live poker, don"t get to play all that often with having young kids, but with this tourney its a wee bit special for me with winning it in 2008 kinda makes me wanna hope to get ona team and play it.

Yup you have every right to put forward your own opinions Steve as have others.

On another forum, they have a team event, the 1st year they had 2 of their own teams and the remaining places were made up with others, the next year they had 5 of their own teams in and the rest were made up of others that was their choice to allow their constant supporters in the teams....APAT have the power to do what they want, as they are APAT, nobody can tell them otherwise.

So when u say "then I don"t see how APAT can justify 3 teams" really it is not for you or anyone else to question that.

But there is a Larry Murphys Forum.

http://larrymurphyspokerforum.lefora.com

Seems a pretty legit application to me, although I could understand why it would not make the cut. Surely if the ladies team was to start a forum then they would be a legit application as well. Starting a forum is easy enough.

Post by: TightEnd on November 10, 2010, 11:41:35 AM
well that"s news to me, so thanks for linking to it

anyway, Des has posted the following this morning, indicating that getting under the umbrella of an exisiting forum/club etc is the way to go, rather than starting a forum mid way through the process to try and get a team in, to put the applications on an equal footing with the other teams that have applied

Debs I suggest you and your proposed team start a thread on the Women"s Poker Forum; having discussed with their admin, and then you are operating within the APAT guidelines for submitting a team.

I would be surprised if you have a number of international players who want to come and play, but you may get other UK ladies outside of your immediate group, who do apply to be part of your team.  That"s good, as it promotes APAT to new players and ultimately we"re here to give a very good experience for a low buy in to everyone.  Ultimately it will be your decision as team captain as to who plays in the Women In Poker team.

There is no guarantee whatsoever that this approach will get you through, however it would be a legitimate application and that means you"re in with a shot.

Larry Murphy"s on the other hand, is extremely unlikely to get through based on current guidelines.

Sorry guys I seem to have started the ultimate fall guys for the APAT team championships.  Larry Murphys was started to try to take part in, and support, the team competition and we followed the rules that we were told that it should come through a forum. We thought a group of guys who had performed well in the live events might deserve a shot at entering a team. It was not meant to become the example of what not to do. I would happily withdrawn any nomination if it was causing hassle to the organisers :"(  I enjoy the APAT events and just wanted to play in another.
Can I start a select Shug for Scotland campaign without upsetting anyone ;)
