Title: THE ASHES
Post by: ThinkerJE on November 24, 2010, 20:53:07 PM
Starts tonight, been looking forward to this for ages.

For once, the England preparation has been spot on whilst the Aussies are in a right mess.

Pitch at Brisbane could have a bit in it for the seamers, might be a good toss to lose.

I fancy England to win the series by 1 (although it will be close) and have backed 2-1 & 3-2 (don"t think there will be many draws)

Also on Strauss to be top runscorer & Anderson to be leading wicket taker.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Fancy Trott to be top run-scorer TBH, not a good start for Strauss!

I think this series will be won with the ball, I feel that Austrailias attack is at it"s weakest for a long long time

I am in the same camp, England to win by 1.

Come on England!

That attack is still weak, its just that Siddle turned up to the party. If it wasn"t for him, they could be still batting into next week!

Easy to say now, but i think Bell should be at 5 with Colly at 6.

3 out of 4 bets looking in play at least, at this very early stage:

- Australia to win 3-2 @ 7/1
- Cook series top scorer @ 8/1
- Katich series top scorer @ 7/1
- Doherty series top wicket taker @ 24/1 (the wildcard bet - worth a punt if he keeps Hauritz out of the team)

I agree, a BIG missed opportunity for England.  Need to get early wickets tonight.

Great fightback by England.  The Aussies looked a complete Joke in the field (although the pitch was as flat as a pancake).  I cannot see how they are going to get 20 wickets to win a test match.  England on the other hand (Swann apart who is due to the odd off game) bowled really well with no luck and no reward.  Anderson and Broad were very unlucky not to get Hussey & Haddin on day 3 and Finn backed them up with a superb 6 wicket haul.  Bring on the next test on Thursday.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

I had a little £20 bet before the 1st Test for England to win the series at 7/4.
Feeling fairly confident about this.  I just cannot see how Australia are going to take 20 wickets.  Very poor bowling attack.
Things couldnt have gone any better for Australia over the first 2 days, and they still couldnt get the win.

Bet #2 ftw :)

Surprised bet #1 fell at the first hurdle.

I would be worried about #4 too. It all depends on what they do with Mitchell Johnson. If they decide to drop him then almost certainly Steve Smith will come into the team to bolster their batting otherwise they will have a long tail. They could always go with 2 spinners, Adelaide tends to be a spinners track. I can"t believe they are still picking Hilfenhaus, he is nothing more than a village bowler.

Cook bet looking good! still think that Trott will be more consistant throughout the series.

Can"t wait to start again, COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

Stuff dreams are made of! another one before lunch will do just nicely. The Aussies tail is looking long now Johnson isn"t playing.

That said - their bowling attack looks to have more of a threat to it, will definately be more of a test for Cook and co

My "Katich top scorer" bet would have looked better if he"d actually managed to face a ball.

Goo arn England.

This just gets better & better.  Ponting won"t be in charge for the last test of the series (which will be a dead rubber anyway!!!)

Come on!

...if it weren"t for the rain we"d have had a couple of wickets to boot.

No need to get too excited its still 0-0 and we"ve not one it yet but they seem in disarray. To add to their woes though the captain in waiting has had a poor run and is currently only 75% fit.

Love it

Broad out of rest of Tour!

Who would we have as the replacement guys...i feel its a little bit of a dilemma.

Tremlett is obv the fav but then there is the issue of the batting line up.

But then again do we need the bowlers to bat ;D

Well played boys a smashing destruction of the Aussies!

Apparently Shane Warne has come up with a 10 point plan to improve the fortunes of the Australian Cricket Team.

I have a few of my own

Make all test matches versus Australia 6 days rather than 5 to prolong their agony a little bit more.
Allow them 3 innings rather than 2 to try and even things up a little.
Widen the width of the wickets to 5 stumps when they bowl.
Make the square bigger when they bowl to reduce the number of wides Mitchell bowls.
Allow Australia to pick some of their women's team. (Controversial I know but half of them look like blokes anyway).
Ask the Barmy Army to sing a little quieter when Mitchell is bowling.
Tie Alistair Cooks feet together when he bats.
Outlaw reverse swing. (They can't do it so why should anyone else be allowed to).
Allow their WAG's to have a bowl if they want to.
Bring the boundaries into the edge of the square when they bat.

I have to admit to having a slight grin on my face this morning but my doctor says that it should only last another 2 and a half years!!!!

G'DAY? (It certainly is)
