Title: APAT Team for Bolton 2011
Post by: AAroddersAA on November 29, 2010, 12:04:01 PM
Right then

I have the "honour" of picking the APAT team for Bolton 2011. To say this is going to be tough is and understatement because based on this season, and passed seasons, there are a lot of people who deserve a place in this team. There are only seven players I can select though so I will do my all I can to select the best that APAT have to offer.

After speaking to Leigh on the weekend I want everybody who applies to at least have a chance of getting in teh team so I will be selecting one player totally at random. I will send a list of players to Leigh and Tighty with all of the names on it and numbers against them and then ask a respected APAT member (Hopefully The Duke) to select a number as random. That will select a  random player.

Those of you who are available for selection can either post up on this thread or PM me. This is the APAT forum team so we will be looking for players who supported APAT, either playing the live and online tournaments, or in some other way. If you want to tell me why you should be selected feel free.

I wish I had more spaces to give everybody who wants to play a spot but they are limited so make sure you sell yourself.

I am going to be quite busy this week so am not going be online too much but will try to check bacjk on a daily basis. I will get the team selected ASAP but want to give everybody time to see this thread so won"t start doing it until the weekend. After that it should not take too long I hope so should have it slected by the end of next week (by COP on 12/10/2010) to allow everybody plenty of time to book hotels and make their plans.

Thank you for all the congratulations on here and in person on the weekend, I am really looking forward to Bolton.

Need to allow for the team list to be confirmed though - I"m sure there will be people who would want to apply for the APAT team if their own team"s application is non successful.

Do we know when the team list will be published?

I think anyone who applies for APAT and doesn"t see it as there "own" team, need not apply. Plenty of people to choose from who want to play for APAT as their first (or only) choice.

Agreed Stu, and am not referring to myself (I will be disappointed if BCPC don"t get in, and I"m privileged to have a place in that team if we are successful)..... I"m sure it will apply to some though.

I would have been really proud to play for APAT again, and to have a chance at defending that which I helped to win last year - however form at APAT has been off this season, and there are others far more deserving than me :(

Thanks for all the PM"s so far guy"s. It"s great that there are so many people who would like to represent APAT and I know that you would all do it well and in the fashion APAT deserves. Liking the love for APAT and the fact that people think that APAT should be people first choice. Given the level of interest I tend to agree BUT I don"t agree it should be the only choice.

APAT is all about the competition. There will be a lot of APATers at this event who are not playing for team APAT (some of whom would like to) but are playing for other teams. I have to say I would prefer to see these people there and playing for other teams. Chezger for example has close links to APAT and I will be pleased to see players who are playing for them (and others) at the event, even if they have also applied for APAT. This event especially is all about the community and the more of our community are there, the better.

I can honestly say I wish that I could give everybody who has PM"d me/posted here a place but there are only eight and I will be making what I believe is the best choice for APAT overall. If that means some of you attend the event as members of other teams then that will only make the event that much better.

Hi Rodders

Much to our excitement and disbelief our Elite Amateur Poker League has been chosen to attend. Therefore, and with a huge amount of regret as I would have loved to have played for you, I must declare muself unavailable for selection on this occasion as I need to support the EAPL.

Thanks for considering me in any case.

I have chosen the 12th to announce the team as it gives the team members plenty time to book rooms and ensures we have a good selection of hotels to choose from, at the moment Holiday Inn looks a good choice to be the team hotel. It will mean people have enough time to see the thread and put a good case forward to me, which I have to say a lot of people have done.

So the team will be selected on 12th and if members of BCPC or any other club wish to apply then they are as welcome as everybody, but I will be fair on those people who want to play and don"t have (or in some cases want) the option of another team and would like to know if they are going to Bolton or not, some people will also have to sort out time off work and giving them as much notice as possible allows them to do this. Also by selecting this team as early as possible whilst still being fair to everybody allows those people not selected to have the chance to try for other teams. As Leigh says I could pick a number of excellent teams from the applications I have already recieved so some people have to be dissappointed. I want them to have the chance to get into other teams if possible and still attend the event.

Keep the applications coming, although this really does get harder everytime I look at my PM"s, this is going to be a great team we are in with a great chance of winning for a second year.

I wish to apply for the APAT team. You should definitely pick me cos I came 4th in the Omaha high-low last weekend.

And please choose Rudders and Bodders. You three are like our very own Huey, Dewey and Louie.

Hi Guy"s

I have now started the process of selecting the team and the random draw will be taking place later this week. I will be sending a list of players in a random order to Leigh and Tighty with a number next to each of you. A trusted member of the APAT community with no knowledge of which number represent which players (The Duke) will then select a number and I will annouce the successful player. Leigh and Tighty will be able to confirm this was indeed done at random as they will have the list.

If you have applied for the team can you please ensure you are on the list below. If you are not you need to let me know asap.

PHIL_TC = Phil Tompkinson
WASP = Brian Martin
SirPerceval = Stuart Oliver
HaworthBantam = Ian Burnett
Foggy = Chris Filus
xxMAIRxx = Mary Kilven
Hammerite = Don Roberts
ThinkerJE = James Edwards
Waz1892 = Warren Fenwick
Bear21 = Gary Phillips
Fatcatstu = Stuart Ward
TheSnapper = Brendan Byrne

bigredders = Mark Redshaw
Roscopiko = Ross Johnson
Pantsman = Andy Overton
Pables = Ian Thompson
Bigalhx3 = Alan Armitage
Scouse3456 = Steve Bayliff
Technolog = Jack Prime

1TRW1 = Tod Wood
Ant1966 = Anthony Williams
Daiboot = Dai Lewellyn
Blowfly = Debjani Duncan
ck1888 = Chris Kelly

K1888 = Christopher Kelly

Sharplea = Adam Sharples
Joobie = Julie Holness
Pitchie = Paul Pitchford
AJDUK = Andrew Duncan
Stone = Charles Mason
Luke1 = Tim Magnus
Riorodent = Alan Lake

EDIT - I hope people don"t mind me posting a list of interested peopleon this thread. The reason is to ensure that I don"t unintentionally overlook anybody and make sure everybody is in the random draw. I know some people have sent PM"s and not posted on the thread but as people are showing support to APAT by applying I did not see an issue with posting a list.

Thank you all for the applications. I wish I could pick everybody who deserves a place but I can only select 6 and one at random.

Evening Rodders,

I felt that as a newbie to APAT this year (first live event was at Luton and was sitting next to you) that I would not like to take a place in the APAT Team over some of the established and seasoned APAT regulars this year.

I have sacrificed my golf club membership next year to play in more APAT online and live events (Things I do to keep her indoors happy)

However, all is not doom and gloom as I was successful in my application for the Betfair Team and will hopefully meet up with you guys on the tables (hopefully with me holding the best hand)

All the best

Ian (aka Iliketrips)

Cheers Claire. That is one drink you are owed by me in Bolton !!

Guy"s time is ticking by now, if you want to be considered and to be in the draw (which is happening Saturday night) I need you to make sure you are on the list. I am pretty sure that everybody is on but I did miss John off so it"s up to you to check. If you get missed off and don"t tell me nothing I can do about it and I will obviously not reconsider any selection after Sunday, I will run a final check but it is for you to let me know if you are missing.

I will post the team on this thread first @ 6pm on Sunday

Not what I was saying, the team is still not fully selected. I am so used to assuming everybody will be at an event I forgot that in this event people actually need to be selected for a team to play. Hopefully you are both there in which case I will buy you both a drink - whether you are in team APAT or not.

Sorry Rodders, but due to unforeseen circumstances I"ll have to withdraw from the APAT team. I realise that this will mess up your plans, but hopefully you have time to restructure the team.

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I"ll have to pass this time.

Sorry Rodders, but due to unforeseen circumstances I"ll have to withdraw from the APAT team. I realise that this will mess up your plans, but hopefully you have time to restructure the team.

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I"ll have to pass this time.

I reckon you"re in with a good chance anyway Stu. You"re the one player in APAT i"ve never got the better of. Not that that"s a criteria for choosing players for the APAT team!

Just that i"ve sat down with most of the regular players and you"re the one player who whenever you sit down at my table i think "Oh no". Well, actually, there"s a few but for non-poker reasons.  ;)

Best of luck getting in the team anyway. Hopefully will be alongside you, rather than against you!

OK List this updated. The random draw will take place this evening at some point around the time of the live event. I will assign each player a number and the draw will be made by Ger "The Duke" Smyth. Ger will not know which numbers are assigned to which players, although I will send it to Leigh and Rich before the draw to show the draw has been random.

I will then announce the team tomorrow and post some more information after the annoucement. I expect the annoucement to take place at around 6pm tomorrow evening.

gl to all in tonights draw,

John M - please PM me or post mate as to whether you want to remain in consideration or not.

I think he should announce it X-Factor style.

"The next player not lucky enough to make it onto the APAT Team is....."

And then the last two should have to sing-off to decide the place.   ;D

I would like to be last to get on the list for the draw for a place in the APAT team please.

Hopefully no one else will bother at this late stage.

PS. I"m sure will agree that the team will benefit hugely from having a responsible adult on it, whose uber-nit playing style will act as a calming infulence.

Will call Duke shortly to arrange the draw. We will soon know the second member of team APAT

No that is the plan for sure :-)

The list has been complied and the numbers are between 1 and 46. I am going to ask The Duke as a respected and trustworthy APAT member, who has no personal interest in the team as he has his own, to select a number at random and post it on this thread. I will then reveal the name of the winner. Tighty and Leigh already have the list by PM so I can"t cheat and just pick who I want.

We now await Ger, I will call him and ask him to post as soon as he can.

I think it"s most probable that that"s how rodders did it i.e. the list of names given to leigh/tighty didn"t include the chosen few. i.e. Stuart is a genuine random.

If not, and Stuart was pencilled in for the team, then the random pick should be repeated IMO (otherwise it would be the same as 7 picks + rodders and no random).

OK this was NOT easy but the team to represent the APAT community in Bolton is, in no particular order:-

Steve Roderick
Stuart Oliver
Jack Prime
Brendan Byrne
James Edwards
Ian Burnett
George Bedi
Paul Pitchford

Can I just take a moment to thank everybody who sent me a PM or asked to be a part of team APAT. I know everybody has said it but I could have picked 3 teams from the names here. There were people who I didn"t pick, some of whom are long time supporters of APAT, who I know would have LOVED to represent APAT and would have done a fantasic job of it. I honestly wish they could have been part of the team too.

In the end I had to make a decision and after a lot of time spent looking at peoples results at poker, their contribution to the APAT forum and overall contributions to APAT over this season and previous seasons I made what I believe to be the correct impartial choice. Whilst it is unlikely anybody will agree 100% with me, knowing the community within APAT you will all either be at the event playing for your own team hoping to prove me wrong :-) or be supporting team APAT to win the lot in Bolton. I hope as many of you as possible are there.

To the other seven members of the team. I have made what I honestly believe to be the right choice. This team really does feel like an APAT team which was one of my main goals. I know every one of you will be well up for this and be ready to represent team APAT with pride, in the way we would all want APAT to be represented. There are some really tough teams in this competition but I have not yet seen anything to match the list of names we have posted above (although Leigh has yet to announce the Champions team which could be sick). We have pressure on us because we will start as favourites but all of us has shown that we can run deep and have the bottle to do it when the pressure is on. Now with the whole forum and APAT community behind us we have to do it again in Bolton.

Let"s get this thing won.

Commiserations to all those that didn"t make it, I know you will be gutted but to be fair to Steve he could have picked them all by random draw and still ended up with a team as good as this one.

Thanks for the chance to play Steve.

It really will be a great honour to pull on the APAT jersey and run out at our own little Wembley!

Most people know I"m not the best player, but I"m certainly a keen APATer and will be so proud to represent the organisation that"s done so much for my social life!

Steve seems to have picked a great team - I certainly didn"t envy him his task.

Whilst, under normal circumstances, I would offer some sort of rub down here mate and, in jest, wholehearted agree. In this case I am going to give a serious reponse and say you are 100% worth a place in this team and you are a better MTT player than I am. So I disagree with your statement and will not be at all surpised to see you being one of the many deep runs I am sure we will get with this team.

I love the positive reponses so far from everybody. Makes me proud to be a member of the APAT community.

The team hotel will be The Holiday Inn.

http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/gb/en/bolton/btncc/hoteldetail

This is the same hotel that at least two other teams are using (Chezger and Blonde Poker) so it seemed logical. Get yourselves booked up as quickly as you can, I have confirmed they currently have plenty of rooms available but I would still book today if possible. For those of you who are there on the Friday There will be a quiet drink in the bar starting at around 4pm with Team Chezger which is basically made up for more APAT regs including The Duke and Laxie (can"t do any harm can it??) and some members of the Blonde Poker team.

I have asked Leigh to speak to the supplier who make APAT shirts, which he has very kindly said he will do at the same time as he sorts out the stuff for the Champions team, to get us a Team Polo shirts. Can you please all post the required sizes and I will go from there.

Oh and if we need a team song so here it is.

You will be a fine leader of men Rodders and we all wish you well, whatever the result.

I have requested the cost of APAT Team Polo shirts with our names on them. They would cost us 18 quid but they are very good quality and personally I don"t want the shirt to fall apart when I wash it. Does anybody object to paying £18 for the polo shirts. At least you know you have a shirt you will be able to proudly wear for the nbext few years at APAT events.

Happy enough with £18 Steve. Happier with £36 :)

Perhaps 2 would be a good idea? Two different colours? How are we paying btw?

Guy"s

I have requested the cost of APAT Team Polo shirts with our names on them. They would cost us 18 quid but they are very good quality and personally I don"t want the shirt to fall apart when I wash it. Does anybody object to paying £18 for the polo shirts. At least you know you have a shirt you will be able to proudly wear for the nbext few years at APAT events.

I don"t mind the cost.

Paul.

shamelss "i won 40k brag imo  :P

James = 1 x XXXL ?? (is this right? you ain"t that big)

I assumed that the polo shirts are the same as those sold in the APAT store (fruit of the loom).  Therefore I already have one in XXXL that fits perfect, so I will stick to that size (but thanks for the ego boost skipper :D).

OK do I now have this right. Everybody wants two and we have upgraded the sizes as we are all going to be fat after Christmas the shirts are small.

I don"t think that Rodders has decided on the style and colour for the shirts yet.

They are likely to either be the Kustom Kit ones form last year, or the Fruit of The Loom ones that we use in the APAT merchandise.

They definitely won"t be from the APAT/Betfair shirt supplier   ;D

Rodders, did you want the APAT logo on the sleeve or the front ?

Fruit of the Loom gets my vote, the Kustom stuff is a little on the snug side.

As for the pink...hmm...nice...  :D

Right - Will get the shirts sorted this week to allow Leigh to order them the first week of the new year from the APAT supplier. As we are the APAT team we should be supporting them here.

I am thinking black with a strip on the sleeve to make the different to the main APAT range. If possible make the strip APAT green. Then we have the APAT logo and our forum name on them. Seems that the shirts are the right size so I recommend going back to the original plans and sizes, although I will leave that up to you. Current order stands at the following:-

If the shirts are the right sizes then I recommend some of you scale down the shirt sizes. Leigh need to make the rder with APAT's supplier in the first week of the new year so if you want to change any of the below let me know by the end of the week. This is costing us all £36. If advance payment is required I will do that and you can all give me the money in Bolton.

Rodders = 2 x L
Jack = 2 x XL
Paul = 2 x XL
Brendan = 1 x XL
Ian = 2 x XL
James = 2 x XXXL ?? (is this right? you ain"t that big)
Stuart = 2 x XL
George = 2 x XL

In other news I have made a last longer bet with the captain of the Blonde Poker team (Allyson James). The loser has to buy a round of drinks for the winners team. I have no idea who will win this bet but given the form of us both in recent APAT online events and league games I am fairly confident it will be settled by about 3pm on the Saturday.

Title: Re: APAT Team for Bolton 2011

lol, yes sorting the shirts is much easier thanks in no small part to Leighs help with using the APAT supplier. Picking the team was tough but I reckon I got it right with this group of players. We have a great chance of taking this down.

I hope you all survived Christmas, I am off work for the rest of the week (wiiiiii). As nobody has objected I will ask Leigh to order the shirts (two each). Here is the design I want to use, they will of course have the APAT logo and your forum name on them.

http://www.buytshirtsonline.co.uk/gamegear-formula-racing-polo-shirt-p-1053.html

I as you are all bored with listening to Christmas music over the last week or so here is a team APAT song to make a nice change for you:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OvpzForHyU&feature=related

Team APAT FTW.

Right, as I did survive Christmas, it time to play some more poker. I am going to use today to play some cash, then order a nice Chicken Madras, and try to win a 3D TV in a freeroll tonight. I may also play Jack"s heads up tournament on Pokerstars even though I am really bad at heads up tournaments.

OK - I ma asking Leigh to put this order in next week. Last chance please let me know if you require your order changed. The sizes are fine based on normal APAT products so I am getting a large rather than an XL.

Shirts Required

Rodders = 2 x L
Jack = 2 x XL
Paul = 2 x XL
Brendan = 1 x XL
Ian = 2 x XL
James = 2 x XXXL
Stuart = 2 x L
George = 1 x XL
