Title: APAT OnLive - Blue Square Update
Post by: APAT on December 02, 2007, 14:09:31 PM
The scene is set for the final event of APAT Season One, and in a little over 25 minutes, play will commence on Blue Square, where we will play down to six players, who will go on to contest the final of this event at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London on December 15th.

In addition to a cash prize, Cup, Gold medal and title, the winner of this event will walk away with an expenses paid entry to the main event of the 2008 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

To add further colour, today could also decide the final positions within the APAT Rankings, where 9 players are in with a chance of usurping Mark Donnelly at the top of the leaderboard.  The victor in that battle will find themselves in the Caribbean in a month"s time contesting the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event.

Please update us here on your key hands and situations as we seek to find our final Champion and overall Player of the Year for Season One.

Good luck to everyone.

With 134 players currently registered for the event, how must Mark Donnelly feel at home at the moment?  "Sitting duck" might be an apt description.  Unfortunately, Mark is unable to participate today for reasons outside of APAT's control and with 9 players within a result of overtaking him at the top of the Rankings, all Mark can do is sit and wait.

So who are his competitors?  Mark currently has 43 Ranking points and sits 8 ahead of his nearest challenger, Wayne Parker.  The winner of this event will get 18 points, with 18th place receiving 1 point.  So Parker needs to finish 10th or better to secure his place on the plane to the Caribbean.  For an online specialist, arguably that"s a pretty big target.....

The list of contenders who can still win are:

35   Wayne Parker   noseyp (needs to finish 10th)
31   Brendan Hartnett   twignbud (needs to finish 7th)
31   Alistair Fowler    Ironside* (as above)
31   Steven Talbot   PayDaRake (as above)
30   Kevin Shutt   amitightorloose (needs to finish 6th)
30   Richard Davies   rhmd* (as above)
29   Daniel Phillips   yappari (needs to finish 4th)
26   Antony Wolsey   Pilf (needs to finish 1st)
25   Stephen Lacey   steveinhants* (needs to win for playoff)
* not confirmed Blue Square names.

In the event of a tie for the Rankings lead, a heads up match will be arranged on Blue Square.  The equivalent of a penalty shoot-out in football.  I would probably want to give that one a miss myself!  But lets not get ahead of ourselves, as there are several hours of survival between any on the above list and Mark Donnelly"s season points total.

Are 500 BBs enough to start with though ... ?  ;D

This IS great! Especially as my 45suited took over 1k from AQ on AQ4 4 board and my J9suited has just taken over 2k from QQ on T93 9 board.

Wayne loses another chunk of chips when his  8c 5c loses to Rio"s  qc jh on a tasty board of

8s 9h 6s

tc filling Rio"s straight

ts a scare card for both

Wayne is on 8,500 chips and has oddles of play with this structure.

Wayne Parker will have taken a shot of confidence from this hand:

Parker   :as: ah
Gus Hansen Thinkalike:   5s 4s

Thinkalike raises 200 pf and Parker pops it up to 600
Thinkalike calls.  They see a board of:

6s :3d: tc

Parker bets 500 and Thinkalike calls.

9h

Parker makes it 1,450 to go.
Thinkalike calls, presumably planning an assault on the river.

4d

A worried Parker checks.

Thinkalike puts his remaining 2,920 in the middle.
After a dwell, Parker calls and is now just under 15k.

It"s going to be a long day!

The answer to both of those questions are related to the limitations of the BSQ software.  Which is why the T & C"s clearly state the prize pool will be as per the APAT forum and that there would be a scenario where 30 would be paid, or 40 - depending on entries.  It is the same rule for everyone and it was known prior to entry so no point worrying about it now.

Donnelly Caribbean Water Watch

With 133 players remaining and the CL on 35k and our contenders positioned as below, the warm water is currently lapping just above Mark"s knees I would say.  But is the tide going out or coming in?

Shutt 19k
Parker 11.7k
Talbot 9.4k
Wolsey 10.4k
Hartnett 12.2k
Phillips 5.8k

Others, umm...bar.  Particularly Dewi, Techno and the Duke.

Unlucky Boshi..!!

As it happens I was down to 4k, but with an AK pushed all-in with a raise before me, got called with QQ by someone holding 20k chips, flopped the rather lovely looking ACE, to double up...  Since then have managed to get into another few nice hands and am now up to 18k...

Is Ironside playing?

I saw Ironside Friday night at the new DTD place.  I asked him if he was playing, he said, he was playing the main event there on Saturday which would potentially run very late past 6:00am...  so he said it depends how deep he goes, but, I mentioned that Mark Donnelly was not playing and explained what I have been told the reasons, so Ironside said if MD is not playing because of that, then it is not fair, and he did not wanna play...

Also when I was knocked out (when my KK was beaten by 99) I wished everyone gl and praised the guy with a nh for hitting his set.

Dont ya think it is really odd how many times, when yer playing, someone on the table wants to tell you how you should be paying your cards..!!!  Some guy (GB2loose) who is a serial raiser, did the raise, as I expected, so I pushed all in, he folded,...  Told me he was beating me with his JJ...  After some expert tuition from him to me about how I should have played, I owned up to having 7 3...  And I did it because he just keeps raising..

quietend him down for a bit, since then he took a hit down to 5.5k and he is even quieter...  LOL...

LOL...

I think you"ll find someone else was trying to give you advice. I prefer not to tap the glass  ::)

looks like someone may have thier chips back

just gone out to the biggest GOB of the tournament, but fair do, he had the better hand...

Had QQ, 4 x raise by me, got re-raised, so pushed in, was facking KK, he hit a K on the flop, I hit a straight on the turn, the board doubled to give hime a FH...

He denies teling me how I should play even though he was telling me I should have done a smaller raise..!!

Kevin Shutt - 37.5k
Steve Talbot - 14.0k
Antony Wolsey - 20.0k
Brendan Hartnett - 20.1k

With only 64 players remaining, I wouldn"t bet against one of the above being around at the business end of this tournament....

With 21 left the Rankings situation is now clear.  Kevin Shutt is the only player that stands between Mark Donnelly and the trip to the Caribbean.  To take the title, Kevin has to reach the last six today.

As I say this, Kevin has just taken a pot and increases his stack to 67k....

Just to clarify, 6th position would get Kevin a playoff, he would need to come 5th or higher to win.

Thanks very much Des and for all the support on here and at the rail. I count myself very fortunate to have got as far as I did, even if I only got 60 secs and 1 hand at the final table!

There"s no doubt luck got me there - and it was VERY welcomed seeing as I have had a bad run of luck recently on BlueSq. I"m absolutely delighted to swap it all for another APAT Final Table and some decent cash! The points were no use but at least I got on the board in Season 1 now too.

Going well MickyP (jacklevel) - keep it up! I"m not sure I can put up with your whining and gawd awful jokes in Edinburgh if you don"t make final 6!  ;D

And GL to All.

Down to 7.

Kevin is all-in with Q7 v 66.  A seven on the river keeps him alive and a few hands later he"s no longer the short-stack.

Well done the final six.  I was recording the final table so could not go on the forum.  At this point players can just push in and finish the tournament.  The chip counts have been captured on the exit of the seventh placed finisher.

Well done everyone, particularly Kevin for an incredible fightback on the bubble of the final table.

No Des, you are wrong(for once!)as the official record will show that you helped create a drama that the best soap writers could not match? You and the APAT team have worked tirelessly in an ever changing climate to create opportunities for amateur players everywhere. You kept faith and believed in the principles it takes to create and sustain an ever growing amateur poker association. I and many others believed that these principles gave us hope that one day we could rise to the challenge and maybe, just maybe one day our poker dreams could come true.
Well today my dreams came true, whatever happens at the Vic it was the constant support and backing from true Apater"s that gave me the belief that i could achieve the impossible.
I have to thank you Des & Apat for that, please do not forget that poker players like me are here thanks to you-well done!

Brilliantly put Kevin. Whatever happens in London Des can be safe in the knowledge that he will have a fine and worthy winner of season 1 and a great ambassador for APAT. Like many others I feel sorry for Mark not being able to play but at least he"s still got a chance.

After yesterday"s incredible rollercoaster I wouldn"t bet on the outcome of the Rankings just yet.  Pressure can do very funny things to a person, and Kevin will have two weeks of build up to the final at the Vic.  Do you tighten up and possibly lose the opportunity to win the event and the WSOP seat, or do you go for victory and the WSOP seat, and possibly court disaster?  Would this be a good time to advertise the live udpate from the Vic?  ::)
