Title: APAT UK Amateur Championship: Live Update - Day One
Post by: APAT on December 07, 2007, 19:54:04 PM
The calm before the storm....my favourite time.

The work is largely done and a weekend full of expectation awaits.  As I write, players are travelling to Manchester from all over the UK.

Now to see who"s weekend it is.....

Live update:  Saturday December 8th, from 2.30pm

Post your request for player chipcounts and pictures here and stay with us over the weekend as the drama unfolds.

Will we be crowning a new United Kingdom Champion on Sunday evening, or can Max Ward retain the title he won at Aspers Casino one year ago?

Sorry for delay with updates all.  We are not set up yet, and it may be another hour plus before we can bring you some updates.  I can tell you that we had 203 runners and that Stephen Lister was first out, followed closely by SovietSong and Eck.

ok all just setting up for business here, as Shareplea and I, Tighty, have been pressed into dealing duty for three levels

Hard work, it will never do!!!!

Off to get some counts, some stories etc and then Shrplea can take over when he is free

Sounds good news for the Grosvenor bar takings, if Eck is out. Will probably close tomorrow if Mickey P follows.

Gutted to miss this one due to a golf final, that required flippers and a snorkle.

GL to all my mates and the blonde crew

Soviet Song had an accidnt with Queens

Dewi an accident with QQ into AA

All three out, and extra bar staff are being brought onto shift as of 10 minutes ago......

Lazaroonie OUT

Andrew T halved his stack when he raised with  5d 4d flopped the flush but ran into  kd jd, only a paired board on the turn saved him

He then doubled through with AA versus KK and now has 13,000

The players are about to go on their dinner break but a couple of counts before the rush, sees:

Max Ward - 8k

Phil Toomer - 35k - With Duck card protector in place and clearly seeing a lot of action in the first couple of hours.

Daniel Phillips - 9k

Those three are sitting side by side.

Caroline Burgess - 13k

Thanking you please
Title: Re: APAT UK Amateur Championship: Live Update - Day One
Post by: KarmaDope on December 08, 2007, 19:04:52 PM
Sorry, enforced downtime :(

Alan Lake has 35k approx and we think he"s chip leader. Max has 15k, Kinboshi has 13k.

Due to technical problems here at Manchester I have no clue where/who anybody is without pictures/detailed descriptions! So I"ll do my best but I can"t guarantee anything.

They"re dropping like flies here. The list of (presumed) OUT people includes:

Gareth Ower - K-10 short in BB, pushed to a button raise only to find button with KK. Gutshot straight on flop and 2 pair by river, but case K was on the turn!
James Edwards - Ran A-A into 5-5 on a 5 high flop, got the applause then was called back with 400, stuck it in with 7-7 next hand and ran into JayCBee"s A-K, which filthily rivered the K.
Henry Griffiths
Alistair Weir
Stuart Oliver
Jim Lang
Blair Kirkland
Malcolm Gorse
Mike Hopkinson
W Shaid
Mark Stuart

Rich Offless is still in the tournament by the skin of his teeth. The English Champion just squeaked out runner-runner straight to beat his opponent"s 2 pair!

Martin Hayward is OUT. Literally, he just ran A-K into Q-Q.

Sheriff Fatman has 6k...next to him, The Duke has 27k. Maybe the Sheriff and the Duke locked horns?

Alan Armitage has 22k.

Neither Des nor myself can find Tony Curran at the moment...so we"re presuming the worst :( Tighty thinks Tony1Leg is on the one armed bandits... :-\

Chelsea78 OUT - Ran A-K into Kinboshi (yes, Kinboshi won a hand!) who had J-J.

Rich Offless - 17.6k.

Gareth Ower is already out of the side 20 quid sit and go. Even Dewi"s lasted longer!

Max Ward, defending champion, is OUT. Raising from the button (no small blind) with K-6, the BB (Andrew Duffin) flat called. Flop came 9-10-K all hearts, and Andrew bet 2500. Max moved over the top...and after 10 minutes Andrew called, he"d flopped the straight. Ouch.

Darren Shallis - 28k
Dafydd Jones - 28k
Llyr Jones - 14k

Kinboshi has just been moved to XXLOJXX"s right...fireworks expected!

The music in the G Casino is...lets say interesting...currently it"s House of Pain"s "Jump Around". Nobody in the casino is though.

Even more fireworks expected; JayCBee has just found himself sharing a table with The Duke and Sheriff Fatman.

Here is the place to get updates. However, we are having severe technical difficulty in that nobody was assigned an ID...so we have no idea who is who!

Can anybody asking for specific people please be as descriptive as possible/put a pic up, as I barely know any of the players and as such, have no idea who I"m looking for.

Thank you!

Gordon McArthur is OUT.

Jimmy Doran just filthily doubled up, pushing with 9-10s and called by 6-6. Board brought 2 spades on the flop...and a 9 on the river. Sick.

Alan Armitage just doubled up, now on 50k, with K-Q vs A-J on an A-J-10 flop.

The Duke - 47k
AndrewT - 20k
Sheriff Fatman - 15k
Darren Shallis - 51k

It doesn"t sound too filthy or sick IMO. I"d say it was more a loose play calling an All-In with 6-6 - he must have suspected he"d be racing at best.

Well done Jimmy.

Average chip stack is 36.9k. No idea who the chip leader is...there are a lot of people on the 60-70k range, and we have no definitive counts.

We have finished. I"m just waiting for chip counts now.

23 finished, so everyone who comes back tomorrow is in the money. Jimmy Doran Snr was the unfortunate man to bubble, on the last hand of the day!

The chip counts will appear at some point tonight, before Hatton starts!

Great effort with the updates despite no id cards for the players.

As always, thanks to Des & Rich for their tireless effort in setting up another great tourney.

This was my most disappointing APAT tourney to date, mainly because of my early exit but partly because, despite hours of reflection, I still cant decide how well/badly I played (normally i can figure it out!)

donk you very much

PS good to meet Jack too. good guy. good player. thanks for showing the kings after I folded to his reraise.

I had an up and down tournament, donked about 13k on a set of slow-played 8"s to a rivered straight, went down to about 2k, somehow got back up to 17k, got moved to another table, got KK first hand, all-in, called by AA and thats all she wrote, and I was out in about 90th-ish

not too disappointed going out that way, but more annoyed at myself for losing most of my chips to that straight.

A good tournament all round and I was happy to know a few more people this time. Good luck to all left today, especially Offless, that A9 was great!! ;D

I played my heart out yesterday, had far too much fun, and gave Kinboshi a sizable spanking when my Hail Mary pre-flop shove with  qd 8s accidentally hit trips on the turn against his twice-paired ac kc

Took a couple of well-deserved beats after that, though :)

Chili, Steve, if you"re reading, here"s how our lot did:

Ginger/"Legend" John, out at 7pm
Taxi Steve, out before the 1st break
Johnny Wheels, vanished somewhere between 1st and 2nd breaks
Kev 2 Legs, early doors
Teacher Rob, out just after 1st break
Me, 11pm in 70th or so
Big Mick, 11:30pm, 65th-ish
Tony 1 Leg, 11:45pm, 60th

See you all in Cardiff!

So for the third tournament in a rown the little home game that I run has the chip leader at APAT with just over 20 runners left, (myself in luton, Mike Hopkinson in Walsall and Simon Auckland currently in Manchester). Toughest home game in the country??? Good luck to Simon today. Let"s hope he can do what Mike and I didn"t and take one down.

And then we can get back to our home game tomorrow night!!!

GL all still in.  It was fun until it came to the drive home...

Rich hope you put my last 17k chips to good work and do the double.  (I was the one that folded my qq and got shown ak on a 10 high flop)

Had a great day, and only made two wrong plays, so looking forward to next w/e in Walsall.

Des and the team, thanks for another great tournament, maybe Cardiff will be my day!

GL all, and I"ll be watching for updates.

Hi Rob, lovely to meet you and put a face to the name - shame you didn"t stick around a bit longer. I exited not too long after you when my normal fish-like game kicked in to top gear!

Thought we had a nice table yesterday, yourself, drixler (sp?)(on Blue Square), big Laz, the brummie fella, Llyr Jones (XXLOJXX - great to meet you Llyr) and the others whose names remain unknown or escape me. All friendly, chatty and played the game in the right spirit. If any of you see this, post a reply so I can put more names to faces please. See you all in Cardiff in 6 weeks time all being well.

Great to meet u to Jack...  Was an excellent table & really enjoyed the banter through the day from all...  Some interesting hands and plays.  Shame I got knocked out by Richeo in the end, when he sat down at the table I did say to myself Im not going out to Rich (after he knocked me out in Ger"s the night before), but unfortunatly my A9 shove out of position was called by rich"s 10"s!

Learnt a lot from the day & can hopefully make it to final next time......
