I"m thinking of sticking to my eco-friendly travelling for this one and catching the train again.

Virgin Trains go direct from London Euston in approx 4hrs-5hrs.  The casino is a stones throw from Glasgow Central Station, so no parking/airport taxi hassles.

Tickets go on sale 12 weeks in advance (which is from next week).  It might be worth sorting a group booking, if there was enough people from the South, who fancy a poker weekend in Glasgow.

Even if there"s just 2/3/4 who fancy it, might aswell book together so we could have a table and play a bit of chinese poker on the way up/back.

I was planning on catching a Friday mid/late afternoon train, and be on an early one back on the Monday.

Not sure if the Virgin Trains stop at all of these stations, but here"s the rough route if anyone wanted to join en route.

London Euston
Watford
Milton Keynes
Rugby
Tamworth
Crewe
Warrington
Wigan
Preston
Carlisle
Glasgow Central

Earlier time suits me also, and Holiday Inn Express is my hotel of choice.

I"m assuming it will be easier to book through Virgin Trains on the phone to guarantee seating arrangements ?

£24.50 for a reclining seat; £53.50 for a berth.

I considered flying but taking everything into account (parking & Glasgow taxis etc) it usually works out about the same...so the only issue is time (for me).

A leisurely train trip suits me much better....and I don"t have to get up at OMG o"clock to travel to the airport.

If you split your trip like this London-Manchester-Glasgow you will usually find that cheaper than a direct return, although you will be on the same train.

You can also use www.megabus.com for the train from Manchester to Glasgow and this is on the virgin trains at a fraction of the virgin fare.

eastcoast.co.uk is another rail company that do some great discounts.

Hope to see loads of you up here, and bring yer wallets and drinking heids!

Holiday Inn Express booked, Fri, Sat & Sun.

Had to go for a later train on the Friday, so not leaving until 4:30pm from Euston, gets in around 9pm. Perfect.

Great deal on trains back on the Monday.  I"m on the 10:40am from Glasgow. First Class for only £39.

We"re in the Holiday Inn Fri & Sat, then it"s off to the mother in laws once our play finishes on the Sunday. Hence I"m using my Juan Tyme to go deep on the Sunday (side event or otherwise)!

Going by train 06.50 from Telford, joining the virgin service at Wolves around 07.40, arriving glasgow at 11.15. All for the stupid price of £65 total return for both of us.

Glasgow is a little bit of a massive blur from last year as it was a free bar (thank you betfair!!) so can"t actually remember where we stayed but it had a nice fly stuck to the toilet paper. So don"t stay there... where ever it was  :-\

Last time I travelled virgin first class to London I didn"t notice the difference TBH. I was sat on my own single berth seat, but someone was directly opposite so hardly on my own. The only difference to 2nd class was a scrawny dry butty served by the most miserable woman you could ever imagine who could pour a cup of coffee in one second and be gone before you could say "scuse me you missed the effing cup". Sigh.

Anyway, back to the hotel issue, I went for the Premier Inn. 2 nights for £112. Tripadvisor seemed to suggest it was quite good, and that the one really near the casino (the Merchant Inn) was very noisy.

Flying from Gatwick Saturday morning and back Monday. BA for about £80 return.

I am in the Merchant along with my sister and nephew. If it was noisy before its going to be a whole lot worse when we get back :)
