The next Amateur Championship event of Season Five will be the 888poker UK Amateur Poker Championship which will take place at the Aspers Casino in Newcastle on the weekend of April 23rd & 24th.

The event will feature a buy in of £75 and direct entry is available using the APAT tab in the 888poker lobby from 9pm on Thursday 7th April 2011

Is it just me or in the lobby does it not appear as starting on April 13th at 11pm?
April 23&24th is right though?

Do the players already committed to the Home nations game get an automatic seat reserved (think they should btw)

As I noticed a few names missing that I know are playing that event, just a thought that some may think they have auto reg to the National event

they buy into a seperate tank for the weekend event, so a seat is reserved for them effectively

team captains have the passwords for that tank and the team members need to buy in asap please

Apart from the long distance tournaments, this one has to be the first ever that has fallen short of a full registration.  It MUST be because of the easter dates.  I also understand that there are a number of people playing the team games and then going home and not playing the main event.  I was a bit shocked by this, but family is family I guess.  Maybe APAT should have avoided this date..!
Title: Re: 888poker UK Amateur Championship
Post by: TightEnd on April 14, 2011, 13:08:11 PM
For the 900th time, because we were unfortunately late in scheduling (arranging the S5 sponsorship) this was the only date free in April (or early/mid May) for the Championships.

Combining with the Home Internationals for a four day APAT stay in newcastle looked a good option because it was one fewer day off work (Good Friday) for those players in  the team event, and (Easter Monday) no day off work on the way home either

I too am surprised that quite a few of the team players aren"t playing at the weekend. Wasn"t quite what I expected, but then again I am probably guilty of not having a life and not doing much at Easter normally, so underestimated it!

The event itself is over 100 runners as it stands and will sell out with local players, in my strong opinion

I"m one of those players not playing the main event, but playing the team event.

I think the kids would have rebelled if we"d have cancelled Chocolate day, sorry, I mean Easter. Plus, it"s Amanda"s birthday that weekend so it"s made it a little bit difficult for us.

As Rich has said though, I don"t think it"ll have a problem selling out.

well that was weird - happened to have the 888 client open just now, and a table opened up with a welcome note to the APAT UK Amateur Championship. I watched as all the chips flew in first hand (1 chip each) - apparently I have placed 68/75.

WTF was that all about??

Holding tanks running through at 5pm, so we can shut them off and get names and buyins sorted to venue.

Guessed that - a bit surreal though. We should have some sort of prize for the person who wins the 1 chip all in fest holding tank tourney. Perhaps a pint from Leigh? Or more realistically, an APAT cap?  This one was won by abastinado - well played mate.

And Paul Pitchford runs so good - not there, yet he still manages to finish 8th!!

Anyone excited?

On the choice of the Easter weekend - it"s great for me with no children and not having to have days off work (actually I teach so I can"t usually have Mondays off). Also, I have a partner who lets me go/comes with me if it"s held in a city which she fancies visiting while I"m playing (which is the case with Newcastle).

Do the majority of APATers have children or not. If the latter, these Bank Holiday weekends are perfect.

Four young kids and a VERY understanding wife.  Bit peeved to be away over a holiday weekend, but already missed one APAT this year, and can"t get to any of the remote events, so had to bite the bullet for this one.

I suspect that the range of familial arrangements runs the full range with, perhaps, a slight skewing towards younger side without the full-on apron-strings

That"s not to say that the younger side don"t have other commitments which will mandate that they can"t make the more "remote" events, prior commitments, significant others, etc., will have their demands at weekends...especially holiday weekends.

Personally as a middle-aged single fellow with no kids, I"m VERY happy with the way S5 has been scheduled...but I fully acknowledge that I"m probably in a significant minority.

Have you no balls the lot of you. Just say i am the master of the house, i will go and play poker/drink on a bank holiday weekend if i want.

Then agree to take her with you, pay for an expensive hotel (with a pool) and do all the household duties for 2 weeks prior to the event  ;)
