Title: 888poker APAT Welsh Amateur Championship - Day One Live Update

The 888poker APAT Welsh Amateur Championship begins at 2.30pm on Saturday with over 150 runners competing for the title, the cash and the UKIPT seat added for the winner.


The Welsh cleaned up in Newcastle, winning the UK Home Nations Team Event, with a Welshman taking down the main event also.

Can anyone stop them when they have home advantage ?


Join us from Les Croupiers Casino, Cardiff to follow all of the action over the weekend.

So, after a rather tortuous few hours, we can final settle down and cover the tournament

162 runners, 2 alternates so far

The two exits are Martin Jones and Don Logan. Logan had Aces busted

I left home at 6.30am to arrive before the players, at around 11am, and had arranged to meet the cardroom manager to go through things

The card-room manager arrived at 1.30pm

By this stage Mr Smyth and Mr Prime had decided to give me about a quarter of a mile of eruption room, and had departed the scene

I haven"t eaten, I am tired, grumpy and in Cardiff


Readers of the update, give me a wide berth.

Les Croupiers is situated in a new retail park on the outskirts of Cardiff

In the distance you can see the Millenium stadium towering over the city centre

A stone"s throw away from the casino itself is the new Cardiff City/Cardiff Blues stadium. Sadly Cardiff City FC has failed to get promoted again this season

the casino itself is on two floors

ground floor casino and bar

top floor poker and chinese restaurant

I was staggered to hear what the daily turnover of the casino is, it is apparently the largest casino by drop, outside London. And it is privately owned. Nice.

Sadly i didnt manage to get up to 60k :( had 32,500 at peak and decided it would be a good idea to fire 3 bombs on a 62JQ7 board with T9 :D woops it was fairly ironic because as the flop came down the dude who made a good call down said the forum said i had 60k and i said "hmm maybe its a premonition because im going to double up through you now" sigh!

Really fun day, had most fun @ a live poker table in a while, thanks to the APAT guys as always for running a great show and GL to all left in especially hanry fi****hs and my 10% hometown hero!?

Wow 36 left there must have been seen some tight play the last few orbits I went out 38th with half hour to go, had a good journey back, monster breckie at premier inn ftw. Another great weekend see you all soon. Best of luck to those playing the ohmaha.

I now realise I was badly scarred by a very old TD at Orleans in Vegas who took the greatest pains to explain to me why they didn"t round up the chips when they race off. Seriously, there"s science behind it and everything! I was bored silly after 15 mins but it was my fault for querying it in the first place! Help.............
