Manchester will be there.

Brighton... might as well be Prague in terms of getting there for me, but will no doubt please the "can"t see the point of having non UK APAT events" supporters. So will no doubt go down well. Will be missing that one.

sounds goooood, hopefully can make it to one of these. especially the manchester one, closer to home than brigton. time off work pending of course.

Rich, any reason why the manchester leg is 100 for main and 50 for the side event as opposed to the usual buyin?
no problem either way, jus wondered if it was an oversight :P

No oversight....it"s an open event and, for a one-off, might appeal to those who are more interested in a slightly higher buy-in than the usual APAT events.

888 most likely for sats, but that is with the Head Cahuna, the High Priest of APAT, the Man with the Golden Gun plan

Prague was ready for us, and remains an option for the future...merely I didn"t think we"d get many in January (a scheduling error of mine in the first place, for several reasons) so best to do a UK event and look again for Seasons 6 or 7

Manchester. Open to all to play. £100 and £50 not £75 and £25 (a nod at a trial for times ahead too, I suppose). It unfortunately clashes with the DTD Deepstack but the chances of finding a free weekend before 2013 are remote.

WP on sorting out some live APAT poker since it would have been dead to most till about March otherwise.

I"m disappointed about the 33% increase to the buy-in for Manchester. It ceases to make the World Champ at DTD a special event IMO (although you might up that too!). London was not an event me and debjani were planning to go to, so the unplanned cost to attend MCR will be around £400-£500 for us just before xmas - the increased buy-in is just an extra punch in the stomach! Doesn"t mean we won"t be there, but I"m pretty sure we won"t go to both. So in working out whether a £100 buy in is a success you should certainly consider the effect that one event might have on the other. Also you should think about the cost that £100 per event across the whole season would entail should such a model be adopted in the future. It probably won"t make a great deal of difference to your numbers, but you might find yourself with a different target audience.

Also disappointed about yet more Omaha events on day 2 but I understand that the demand is there so that"s a "like it or lump it" one for us two. Don"t understand why you"ve also upped the buy in for that in MCR. Although I can"t play Omaha, I"d happily toss my hat in the ring for £25. But not at £50 it"s too much for a total beginner.

In summary I"d say that increasing the buy ins at MCR has made me think twice about attending both events, whereas otherwise I"d have probably just bought in to both. That might sound illogical to some, but there has to be a tipping point somewhere.

And again, just for the doubters, WP to Des & Tighty on sorting out some APAT poker I"m sure they will both be a roaring success.

On this one, without Tighty"s input, I would suggest that this is purely a function of what the G dealers are capable of.

It has been my experience that anything else will "Whoosh" as far as many UK dealers go (excepting of, course, DTD).

It"s that or more HE / 6-max side events which aren"t exactly varying the offerings from the standard fare being put on anywhere.

PLO8 might be just within some dealers capacities but, and I heard this more than once in Luton, the casino and dealers don"t like it because "it takes too long because of so many split pots".

You go with what you can get.

Actually, you would be surprised...if it doesn"t involve dealing 2 - 4 cards to each player and then a flop, turn, river...it throws a lot of so called "professional dealers" in the UK.

The mechanics of dealing 5 card draw (what to do with the stub, discards, how many cards can each player take, the protocols about information etc.) are more than most can handle.

Stud is well within the capacities of the dealers at Luton, yet still it was Omaha that was put on. We should at least try other disciplines at Casino"s that DO have the capability.

Stud might have been an possibility at Luton but, again without Tighty"s input, I don"t know how willing they were after the late night finish last time.

I wouldn"t like to assume that Manchester (based on last time we were there) have significantly improved their dealer"s capabilities...but perhaps.

Like I said, you get what you can. Personally, I"m just happy to have ANY alternative that isn"t more HE on Sunday.

Just to deal with a couple of issues here

The December event is an Open, not restricted to Amateurs/recreational players. It is an alternative to a £250 Pro-Am, and therefore a balance struck between making the buy in more inclusive to the majority of our regular players and yet differentiated from our regular buy in level, same for side event. Make it attractive to some different players.

It should not be seen as a precursor to an upping of National Championship buy in levels

Manchester not London because hotel etc expenses are cheaper away from London just before Xmas, and we are going down South in January

I am not sure for either venue that the City location for either venue precludes anybody attending. Quite staggered by the "Manchester may as well be Prague" comment. Under 3 hours on a clear road from London, an hour flight from Scotland. Pretty accessible to anyone.

Dealers. The Vic and DTD aside no venue can comfortable deal anything apart from HE and Omaha across the number of tables we require. Luton, Newcastle and Coventry did for us previously, but that took significant time in staff training in each case, time I was unprepared to ask Luton to commit to the recent  Side event as I knew they had just trained a number of new dealers in HE.

I mentioned other variants to Brighton and got a chuckle down the end of the phone that told its own story.

We do, of course, cater to as many variants as we can in the WCOAP.

With regard to scheduling, the February event (presence of a season six assumed) will be UK based

Good news about these. Very pleased :)

Of the 2 Manchester is the one I will probably play. (Brighton only a possible)

re the increased buy-in,

The main considerations (4me) for these APAT events are things like travel time and expenses such as hotels etc.

At most APAT events I spend far less on the buy in than the weekends expenses, so an extra 25 on the buy in does not really make a difference to the overall cost.

Tighty just to clarify don"t have a problem with Brighton at all, but just to clarify my point some more :

To get to Brighton either by car or train from Teesside :
5hr 30min drive (according to the AA)
4hr (2 changes) via train

To get to Prague from Teesside :
1hr 45min  hour drive to Manchester + 2hr 15 min flight to Prague

Thats why they"re pretty much the same from this neck of the woods.

I"m sure it"ll be a massive success and I know the APAT"ers in that area are well overdue an event down there x

1hr ish drive to Newcastle Airport + 1hr 30min flight to Gatwick + 35min Train to Brighton

Cheers.. still would of preferred Prague though.. sorry Czech Republic  ;) x

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn"t noticed that it was an open event, so can now understand the change in buy-in. But do you expect many pros to play? You had me fooled with your earlier comment "a nod at a trial for times ahead too, I suppose", which I thought was hinting at a £100 future. I"m now not sure what you meant.

No, if I had to say I"d think next year"s nationals will be £75. Just a secondary advantage of using 3100 for an Open event is that it allows us the chance to look at the price sensitivity of the regular players to buy in

Details are still unclear but it"s unlikely (I understand) that this will be online.

Expect a "seat reservation" thread to pop up in due course.

Seats will be held for "in person buy-in" until a certain time on the Saturday (say 2pm) after which they will be released.

Tighty can confirm...or not.

Then again, if I bink big in Vegas....

Looks like I may have to miss Manchester.

It"s only a couple of days after I get back from Vegas and the Audi needs to have it"s timing chain/belt replaced.

There goes a monkey without even blinking.

I am not sure for either venue that the City location for either venue precludes anybody attending. Quite staggered by the "Manchester may as well be Prague" comment. Under 3 hours on a clear road from London, an hour flight from Scotland. Pretty accessible to anyone.

Or you can fly to Gatwick. When I go to the APAT event up north, from Brighton, flying from Gatwick always seems the best option. Is that not the case for you?

I hope to see you in Brighton!

You could always fly into Gatwick and get the train from there.  ;D

Just checked and that"s the best option Paulie.. trains, planes and automobiles it is
1hr ish drive to Newcastle Airport + 1hr 30min flight to Gatwick + 35min Train to Brighton

Cheers.. still would of preferred Prague though.. sorry Czech Republic  ;) x

Sorry - just read this. Cancel the last post!

By the way, well done all at APAT! It was looking like the Worlds was the last chance I had for a live event, but not anymore!

Sadly, it looks like I"ll have to miss the Manchester event (very sad - I haven"t been there for years). The Brighton event, on the other hand, is a 10 minute walk for me. GET IN!

The staff at the Rendezvous are quite good, and most have been dealing there for quite a while. Can"t wait!!

No...although I have done the LA to Vegas road trip thing.

Vegas is pretty much paid for barring a couple of hundy for hotels but add another £500 for the timing belt + another £350 (or more) for Manchester and the December credit card bill would cripple me.

What I don"t spend in Manchester will mostly cover the car....easy decision really although it"ll still hurt to miss it.

FML....Just had the car serviced and the feckin" "Engine Management Computer" light comes on. Audi want c.£125 just for a bloody diagnostic.

I casually ask how much they would charge for the timing belt...£800+. I think not.

The hits keep on coming.

Pailie,

Assume you didnt service this at an Audi garage.  ;D

Audi still try to avoid the ""freemarket"" for servicing and are charging you to turn the light off basically. They havnt released the info on resetting lights on the newer models yet. (I work for a big fleet company and we have same issue)

Best advice at the moment is ignore it and service next one at dealers. If we get any better info I will post.

(feel free to delete this post as non poker)

Although we"re getting away from the topic.

I had it serviced by Kwik-fit for £205 incl the MOT. They"ve done me right for the past 4 years on that front.

The EMC issue will be a max of £125 (about an hour"s work, I reckon)...and I"d rather not ignore it just in case.

I could ignore the timing thing too but I"d rather pay £500 than have to pay for a new engine.

On a brighter note I just found £300+ on Neteller I"d forgotten about...that"ll help.

Could we make the buy in for Manchester £105 with the extra £5 going towards buying Paulie a new timing belt and a switch to be inserted on the wires leading to the EMC light so that it can be switched off if it ever comes on again.

We would hope to sell it out to over 150 as normal

However as online numbers are low, I will be opening it to the venue to make a list of their players wishing to play. They won"t have to wait to the day to know they are bought in

If you do wait to the day to buy in, there is no guarantee you"ll get a seat. you should (+ alternates), but I will be filling the list up beforehand

It will be my first time playing a live structure like this. Will there be scheduled breaks / lunch hour or anything like that? If this info isn"t available yet then no worries, i"m just curious

Hi Andrew,

There will be a short break every three levels, but no lunch break as such.  The majority of players will eat at the tables, or around the scheduled short breaks.

I hope you enjoy the event.

Cheers,

Des.
