Title: APAT North American Amateur Poker Championships
Post by: TightEnd on November 03, 2011, 09:37:33 AM
When: Saturday 19th November and Sunday 20th November 2011

Where: Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino

Start: 1pm local both days

Buy In: $120 NLHE Freezeout with the APAT National structure

APAT Members will pay $135 on the day to include all dealers tips, cocktail waitress service etc

APAT will pay the registration fee for APAT members travelling across

Des Duffy will be your APAT host for the two days

As APAT needs to fund the registration fees in advance, the next step is for all of the APAT travellers going across to confirm they wish to play.

Please do so on this thread.

Many thanks to Jim"ll fix it for being Go-between. Many thanks to Caesars Palace for hosting.

The tournament is about to commence, good luck to you all.....

Whats the addon for this?  Bearing in mind, if a yank wins gonna be hard for them to play a UKIPT.. :)

Happy with what ever Apat decide but failing that a $15 last longer for the Brits/Irish should create enough to buy a Ukipt seat.

Very well done the Richards et al for getting this arranged under very trying circumstances. It will be mega. Three players from my party, Roberts-Gildea-Wyatt.

UKIPT or equivalent value if a local player wins

NAPT for example

Thats a good idea...

Just one point about that.  Poker players in Vegas are not always necessarily locals and could be from anywhere in the world :)

Just something I remembered reading about Caesars (And I understand lots of poker rooms) regarding speech and phones etc etc..  That there are rules in these poker rooms that we may not be used to. Maybe someone who has played there recently can confirm, just so none of us fall foul of these rules.

I understand that speech play is not allowed in a hand, for example, cant sit there asking an opposing player, have you got a pair, do you want a caller etc.?

Also, mobile phone rules, I have heard that if you start playign with phones, dealer insta-mucks you?

Andy any others that we should be aware of.

Maybe someone can specifically get the Caesars rules that we as APAT players would not be used to, or, are APAT having APAT rules?

How to get time off work though, might be a series of WAH days (long distance)  ;)

Since I"m staying at Ceasars, I would like to complain about the ridiculous distance from my room to the cardroom. ::) It"s probably further than the hike from Aspers to the hellhole FrankieB booked for me in Swansea ;D  ;D

Put Colin Wilson on the list please.

Can we pre-reg at Caesars,1pm starts have been known to be tricky after Friday nights out in Vegas.

No speech rule was enforced when I was in the poker room last Feb.However I"am pretty sure Tikay mentioned it during his wsop blog.

Me and Debjani are in.

Carl - as always every room is different with it"s rules although they all like to suggest they are following TDA rules. I got a 2 hand penalty for saying "I"ll think better of calling with my flush draw" as I was mucking when 5 handed at a tourney in Binions. Not good as i was taking blinds the next two hands. Apparantly not allowed to even suggest the content of my hand never mind name it. Basically forget speech play! The other TD later told me that penalty was taking it too far and he would have just warned me but there you go.

Agree that this should be an open tournament as we can"t expect vegas randoms to appreciate our "amateur" stance, or even understand what that means.

From what I understand...similar to WSOP rules....no texting/usage if you have a hand -- you"ll receive a warning, after that your hand is dead. Phone calls at least a table length away from the table. Speech -- only heads up, and you can not say what you have in your hand or reveal any cards to get a read.

That hellhole is a very nice establishment, reasonably priced, a great location, very good breakfast, the owner and his son could not be more friendly. What more could you ask for? Caesars Palace?

Best route:

Stop off at Imperial Palace for a pitcher of coors lite.
Move forward to O"Sheas for some Guinness and beer pong.
Quick 10 hands of blackjack in the Flamingo with a $1 bottle of bud,
Stop off for a rest at Bills while listening to fake Elvis and enjoy a bottle of corona.
Take the escalator across the street.
Stop off at the open air bar for a draft pint.
Enter ceasars, turn tight for poker room.

Hope that helps.  :D

(Not sure of the best place to cross the road to get from Harrahs)

Surely, walking travel tips are impossible, how will you know where you are setting off from  ;D

Impossible? Not when he SAID where he"s starting from!

Basically, walk south until you see this on the other side of the road....

Go up the steps into the cupola, go in the doors and walk across the bridge and, I think, it brings you out here...

UKIPT or equivalent value if a local player wins

NAPT for example

Tighty...can you confirm a ROUGH $ value for our US players for me to pass on?

Also, what is the earliest they can register at CP?

This is an odd one and we"re going to add $500 to the prize pool, in place of any add on seat.  APAT will pay the cardroom in advance of the event.

Delighted that Des is attended but won"t be the same without Tighty.

Can I ask the reason why not Rich?

If it is expense for the sponsor then I for one would be happy to chip in to a fund and I"m sure others would join me.

That is a nice thought, thank you, but there really is no need.

It was always planned to be a one staff-person event for expense reasons and I asked Des to do the event for me as I don"t have the resources currently to do the trip justice, expenses aside.

Please get Tighty to add me to the "pre-register" list, real name is Neil M Nicklin (from Doncaster), was looking at a tournament schedule for Vegas when I got the email from APAT, if the structure is the same as the DTD one it will be excellent, other than a bubble hopefully this will be fourth time lucky!

I am sure I will recognise some of the UK players, will be nice to see someone familiar, having a "poker holiday" on my own for two weeks while the wife is cruising with her mum.

See you at Caesars, which coincidently is my favourite hotel and poker room.

Indirect - £355 US Airways (caveat is that the outgoing flight is 2 changes, return is bog-standard one change) Looking at over £450 for a one change both ways flight.

Although it"s a worthy ambition my impression was that Tighty doesn"t want to just jet there and back and work all weekend.

For it to "work" it"d have to involve an actual restful holiday and that"d be maybe a couple of grand - that might be a little ambitious

Frankly...that"s all done with what we have already....assuming Richard wants to partake

Thursday & Friday - already planned
Saturday & Sunday - APAT duties
Monday - Wedding & JAPAT
Tuesday - He"s due to fly back...AFAIK.

If Richard is staying longer...then I can plan "on the fly" as it were.

By sheer coincidence, the APAT Vegas trip coincides with a a Vegas trip 3 of my mates and I are going on.

Since I"m not on the APAT trip, is it still OK if I play in this?

I (Chris Baylis) have played a few APAT events in the past including two team events for EatMyStack (inc Luton last month), a couple of national events and some of the old regional events at Luton in the earlier seasons when those ran.

No need to take any money off anyone....let"s just show our appreciation in person by keeping him provisioned.

Great news about The Tight One.

Wouldn"t be an APAT poker event if he was not there making it look really easy to run one of these things whilst doing about three other things at the same time.

I of course completely concur with ensuring he is not seen to be putting his hand in his pocket for the entire event.

What do you mean? This is a pretty silly rule on this occasion. It"s impossible to uphold, and if a local wins they will almost certainly be a pro IMO. Are you sure there isn"t anyone on the APAT list that isn"t a pro? Depends on your definition of pro, of course. But this should certainly be open - just like Manchester lol.

It"s almost more than took part in Cork.  ;D

So much for overseas events being unpopular. :>

In all fairness, most people booked Vegas thinking an APAT would not even happen, and, were just gonna go to make a holiday in a great place..  I personally never made an APAT torunament my reason for going there, in fact when I booked a few weeks ago, I was convinced there would NOT be an APAT tournament.

My wife Julia would like to play in this now too. Given that she has not been on the player list posted to casino last week, would she be able to register today if we get there early enough?

Nothing posted above about registration times for locals or how long beforehand we (those on the list) can sign in & pay. If we went over to Caesars early this morning (Vegas time), is a list open? Or an alternates list even?

No more sleeps - not that many of us have slept for any longer than 4 hours at a time since we"ve been here anyway :)
