Firstly a belated Happy New Year to you all, I hope the hangovers are all gone and life"s good for everyone.

So tonight the mini league started and a very enjoyable game it was, with a great structure and plenty of play. Thanks for the table chat gang, It makes such a nice difference to the (lack of) chat in most Betfair games since the new site got up and running. Probably the main reason i haven"t bothered grinding the cash tables in the past 6 months and just played the MTTs.

So again i bubbled for the cash after Stu bok"d me :D Was going along very nicely till i ran my  ac  kc into  kh  ks and donked majority of my stack, but fairly happy with 9 points on the board before the head-hurting experience of the PLO tomorrow night. Probably shouldn"t be too honest on here beforehand but I"m not particularly experienced at PLO having played only about 20 times in cash/tourney combined. Will give it a go and attempt to gain a few more points to head to the final mini league games on Wed/Thur/Fri.

Still to post my 2010 part 2 on here as i didn"t get it updated before New Year so promise I"ll get it sorted in next day or 2.

Just as an aside gang, any comments about the blog so far would be appreciated. Any suggestions about content so far or for future posts, I"m more than happy for a bit of constructive criticism and ideas as this is my first attempt at a blog and I"d like to improve as i go along (other than Davie B"s "You"re a fish" comment  :D )

Cheers Ger, and before we head to the PLO tonight I"ll admit that I"m not even quite sure what I"ll be fishing for. I"ll probably stupidly go for the mackerel when there"s a pond full of healthy salmon and trout.

As I said above i"ve only played a small number of times at Omaha but have to say that one particular experience caused my head to hurt (even more than usual) when a guy took down a rather tasty pot with a nut flush.....only for half the table to start giving the dealer abuse on passing the chips to the "winner" who made up the particular hand with only one diamond in his hole cards  :D

Glad we have a computer to figure it out for us tonight  8)

So game 2 of the PLO is now over (for me at least  :D ) and another good fun game was had, despite my lasck of PLO experience. Started quite well getting up to 6k+ after busting Derek when our AA v AA clashed pre flop and my 8/9 hit a straight. Stupidly then donked most of it chasing an open end straight draw with top pair, ran into 2 pairs and got no further help other than assistance for my opponent to get his boat  ::)

At about 2.5k then had my AAJ5 hand busted by a house of 4"s & 6"s by an even shorter stack. Next hand shoved my last 650ish in with 2356 and prayed for a micro flop. Had an open ender but lost out to Ian "Pables" Thompson and finished 41st. Crazy game PLO but good fun all the same, bring on tomorrow nights re-buy.

2010 Part 2

So the gall bladder trouble behind me I had a superb summer to look forward to, but unfortuantely missed a couple of big outdoor music gigs during my recovery spell (Snow Patrol and Pink). Oh well guess i"ll have to do with some guy called Paul McCartney at Hampden. What a fantastic show he put on, 3 full hours of so many well known songs and a 50,000 sing-along crowd, great weather and an amazing atmosphere.......and then a couple of weeks later there was the small matter of my annual pilgrimage to the wonder that is the T In The Park festival, with a great group of family and friends and an amazing line up of acts including Muse, Kasabian, Jay-Z, Eminem, Faithless, Stereophonics, Editors etc etc etc

Editors

Jay-Z

31st July came and we headed off to Toronto for a fantastic holiday that I"ll hope to repeat again someday. A very cosmopiltan city with tons to do and being on the banks of Lake Ontario even has a lovely beach to visit if you fancy a short drive or bus run. A 2 hour (ish) drive to Niagara Falls (and it"s numerous casinos) is a must if you decide to visit, but everything else was more or less walking distance from downtown.

Toronto Blue Jays

View from CN Tower

Niagara Falls from Maid Of The Mist

On return from Toronto I"m glad to say that i got back to playing some poker, mainly online MTT"s on Betfair (highlights already posted). I ended the year with the superb weekend at Coventry (more to follow) and a couple of lower key gigs in the form of Sarah Blasko and The Complete Stone Roses. August unfortunately saw me facing redundancy from my full time job of Employment Adviser, but I"m sure 2011 will see me get back on that particular horse. Thankfully i still have a part time job keeping me afloat so all"s well, life"s great and Santa gave me my new Canon Powershot camera I"ve hinted for most of the year  ;D

There is irony in there somewhere, may 2011 be a great year for you Grant - you deserve it.

Yeah Ger, there definitely is  :D , I had 50 unemployed clients to help and ended up joining them. I"ve never been unemployed since 1984 so i know I"ll be fine and my part time job have been giving me extra shifts in past couple of months so it"s not a concern.

On a far more sombre note, R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty. Saw Gerry play a couple of times, he wrote some great songs and had a fantastic voice. The likes of Baker Street and Stuck In The Middle will be etched in history but his back catalogue of songs had so many more great tracks and his "Sleepwalking" album is among my all time favourites. I, for one, feel it"s a very sad loss for British music.

Well last night"s re-buy was fun and a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Think I got bluffed off a hand right before the add-on that took me down to 3.8k and I didn"t get the re-buy quick enough like most folk  >:( , so went to the 2nd hour with 6.3 and looking short in comparison to most, never mind plenty of play, still 50 BBs. Got that built up to a comfortable enough 15.5k and then came the raise against a shortie with JQ only for Bill "KTMC?" to re-raise and shortie to put the rest of his stack in. Getting about 4/1 odds i called the other 650. Flop came 4/9/10 if I remember correctly with 2 diamonds, I checked and Bill checked. Turn gave me the magic 8 for the nut straight so i bet about 2.6 into the 3.2 pot, Bill shoved and I instacall obv. He flips 10/10 then paired the 8 on the river to leave me with only 4k. No complaints about any of the play but Bill must have kicked himself for giving me that free turn card, worked out well for him in the end though.
Went out not long after, think it was A/10 v 5/5 of Leigh. 10 and 5 on flop sealed my fate. Like Ger, I agree we all have to show a bit of loyalty for the last 2 games regardless of our points (only 9 from first game so need a miracle now) so I"ll be back in for the 6 handed game tonight.

On the positive side, I joined in with my regular nightly 11.15pm Betfair $22 1500 chips MTT game. Again another rollercoaster, quickly went up to 1860 despite a very very very frustrating disconnection after I 3 bet on a KJ4 flop with KJ. Thankfully found the chips in my stack when I was reconnected so the others obv folded. Got up to 2.5 k soon after then went completely card dead for ages, fell in love with the number 2 as it appeared in every hand unfortunately without one of his friends. Donked some chips off attempting a few plays then with blinds at 80/160 the hand that turned my game. Made standard raise with 6/6, against a shorter stacks BB. He called and flop came 5/7/J, BB checked, so 1200 in middle to steal and 1600 in my stack my chips got shipped. BB called with 8/8  :D
Shortly after that I was down to 183 chips and 200 in the BB. Amazingly about 10 minutes later I had about 7k after double ups galore, went on to cash, made final table with about 21k, then finished 8th for $98ish.

A fun day indeed but apologies to pc_plod, a regular on Betfair, good player and more importantly to me a great guy to chat at the table.....Busted his AK shove with my KJ on my BB when i was short stacked and left him with a few grains of sand. Hoped I was getting odds against a middle pair and only had 7 BBs left, got very lucky against him, but that"s poker and he"ll get me back someday very soon I"m sure  8)

Can only say my goodwill has gone after tonight"s game. Laid down my pre flop raised 10/10 on a 9 high flop to Prestige after i raised his flop bet and he shoved......then he busted my pre-flop raised AA out when he raised my flop bet on Q high board and i shoved. He still called with KQ and hit another Q.

I"m happy in the fact that i can lay down a hand when i suspect i"m behind, but right now I no longer think I was behind on the first hand after that play. Out in level 2 and don"t deserve to be so doubt I"ll be playing again tonight till the sting goes away. That"s Poker!

I know Ger, tbh gotta be happy that he calls and only has 5 outs. Can"t keep me down for long so decided to cheer myself up by checking out my new Canon Powershot that Santa brought me, a camera so damn good it can take a photo of itself  :P

Now looking for suggestions of Glasgow sights you may want me to practice on, keep them clean!!!!
