However, I"m still determined I"m NOT going to put all the weight back on. Too many people do it and I don"t want to be one of them.

And I am sure you will not.

Not that likely with the walking and stuff you do to be honest mate.

Can you and Ger please both have a pint/bottle for me next weekend as I can"t make it and will feel left out otherwise. I will buy you both one in Newcastle to say thank you.

My mate was messing around with the camera at work today and snapped me in mid-snack. As I"m fully clothed, conscious and not looking like a deranged serial killer (is there another kind?), I thought I"d share it. No need to thank me.

Well thats very gentlemanly of you Jack. Just like Jack to think of his fellow APATers see, please consume said pints. If you are having one some for Ger don"t forget to ensure no fruit is allowed anywhere near it.

I thought the escorted to the room thing was gonna be something exciting. Jack always gets to bed safely, sometimes he forgets where bed should be is but he is quite resourceful in that way. The mental picture I have of him escaping the bouncers and making a bid for freedom is quite funny.

The man is a LEGEND. A LEGEND I tells you.

I"ve been neglecting this somewhat. Has anyone ever noticed what a time sponge poker forums are?

Got quite a bit I want to post on. Not least of course the great honour of being asked to be England "A" captain. I thought that when I was asked to play for the APAT Forum team at Bolton earlier this year, it would be the pinnacle of my year, but just a few weeks later and Des asks me to skipper an England team!

I got quite a few applications to play and to be honest, you could have made a solid case for everyone of them. But in the end I could only pick four and I wanted to pick a team with a forum feel to it and a real desire to see England do well. I"m pretty sure I did that.

I never seriously considered picking myself. I"d played for the APAT forum and I wanted to be able to offer the same chance to as many others as possible. When it was announced that Omaha was to be included, that put a cap on any small, lingering doubt as to whether I should play, as I"m pretty much clueless. On Omaha. :)

It"s only two weeks away now and it is going to be simply awesome.

Some of you may know  ::) I"ve had a few incidents of late at APAT events. I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not they may have been down to a modicum of intoxication.

Obviously for the Newcastle trip, I"m going to be on my very best behaviour, at least until my captain"s duties have been completed and the winners" trophy is safely secured.

After this however I can foresee a limited and eminently respectable amount of alcohol intake. Also, immediately after getting home from Newcastle, I"m off on my travels again. I"m packing a bag and travelling down to Wiltshire with my sis for a week of walking and genealogical research. So for these reasons I thought it best to leave the car at home and investigate the possibility of letting the train avoid the driving ban take the strain.

Although the Easter Monday return leg was a reasonable £34, I was dismayed to find the the outbound journey was a less economical £82!

Now I"d heard about the phenomenon of "split-ticketing" (the practice of buying tickets for individual legs of the journey rather than 1 ticket for the whole journey) and thought I"d give it a try.

Well, the Leicester-Newcastle trip involves a change at Derby, so I made that my first port of call.

Leicester-Derby £9.10

There are no further changes but the train from Derby calls at Chesterfield, Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds, York, Darlington & Durham, en-route to Newcastle. After investigating several options, I decided these were my best:

Derby-Sheffield £8.70

Sheffield-York £7.50

York-Newcastle £12.50

So, a journey which would have cost me £82 is now down to a much more attractive £37.80! And I"m sat on exactly the same trains making the same, solitary change. The only difference being I"ve got three extra tickets in my hand and an extra £44.20 in my back pocket.

Tickets booked. License safe. A great weekend assured!

Ah. Well if you"re twisting my arm.. would be rude not to. However after the severe leakage under the lights experienced in Spain I"m looking at more permament options :P
