Why was Aspers Newcastle not chosen as a venue?
« on: December 19, 2007, 10:08:42 AM »
I was just wondering why Aspers in Newcastle was not chosen as a venue for any National games this season. Seemed a very popular venue last season and provided the biggest turnout all season i believe with 210 runners.

Cheers.

I think you"ll find it"s because of the sponsership APAT now has with Blue Square / Grosvenor casinos.
How can you call that.... you should have bet more...... I was all-in...... well you should have had more to bet.

It"s probably to do with the new sponsorship agreement with BlueSQ - which is part of the Rank Group that also owns the Grosvenor casinos.

I missed the event at Aspers last season (was at a wedding), but I heard it was a cracking venue and I wish I could have been there.

It wasn"t the largest though - the one in Cardiff had 220 runners, and the European event that was held in Luton had 300 runners (although spread over two day ones).

Ahhh yes, i didn"t connect the two although it is pretty obvious.
Shame really because in doing so APAT seem to have restricted the amount of suitable venues even more than last season when seats were hard to come by. Just what i needed, another reason to question the sponsorship change over.
And while i"m being sarcastic - any cash game players get yourself over to BlueSq. I mean why waste your time seeing 50-60 hands per hour on PokerStars or FullTilt when you can see 70 hands in 2 hours  ::)

Being associated with Grosvenor guarantees venues before the start of the Season, throughout their whole estate

In terms of forward planning this was vital

Far better value on iPoker though.  Soft, soft, soft cash games at the levels I play.  Far easier than Stars.

Also, if you play on 4 tables, you see far more hands an hour...
