Many congratulation to Scotland for their outstanding performance on winning the PokerStars.com National Online League, and to every region and player who participated, for supporting the League over the past 15 weeks.  I hope you've had as much of a blast playing in the League as we've had organising it for you.

Details of the next National Online League will be announced in the next two or three weeks, in the interim, we're busy planning a National Online Cup knockout competition.

The event will run as a team event with each region able to enter as many 4 person teams as you wish.  Players can name their team whatever they want, as long as it's connected with their original region, so you might have the Scottish Bravehearts, Scottish Ladies, East Scotland, etc etc.

We'll get a more detailed information thread up on the forum during next week, but in the interim players can pool their friends together to form teams of four, or start advertising on the forum for others to join them in teams of four ahead of the National Online Cup.

The format will run as per the League.  If we have 60 teams start the league, then the leading 32 teams after the first round will go through to the second round.  The leading 16 teams will go forward and then the leading 8 will go to the quarter finals etc.

So whatever chance you felt you had in the National Online League, any team from any region can win the National Online Cup.  The event will be very competitive, so I'd like to see a lot of players step forward and organise teams for this unique tournament.

Look out for full details later in the week.

On the back of a very successful league season, this should be on icing on the cake.

Glad you're liking the idea, I think it's going to be a fantastically balanced competition which will no doubt throw up lots of shocks.  Feel free to share and tweet....

Just to clarify how this will work guys.

You can enter as many teams of 4 from the regions of the National League.

Just get together with some of your team mates, think up a relevant team name, and there you go, you can enter the National Online Cup.

If you want to use this as an opportunity to introduce new players to the APAT National League, then get them to sign up to the region and then they can play as part of a team in the cup competition.

The only condition is that all players in the teams of 4 must play for the same region in the National League and come up with a suitably relevant team name to their region.  i.e. 'The Wrexham Ladies', 'The Luton Exiles', 'The Black Country Rubdowns', 'The Scottish Champions', 'The North East Geordies'

We are currently finalising the structure, but would be interested in players views on one thing.

With a cup competition, half the teams go out each round until one is left and declared the winner.

There are two ways to 'knock-out' teams each round, either :-

A )  The top 50% of teams go through, rinse and repeat.

or

B )  Each team is drawn with another team, and the higher placed team of those two goes through, rinse and repeat.

Thoughts ?
