Professionals in Satellites

Laxie:
I don"t blame pros for wanting to get in on the cheap.  Just because they have the extra money doesn"t mean they should be randomly throwing it away.

I"m also a firm believer that if I"m not good enough to get in via a satellite, then I have no business playing the main event anyway.  In fairness, once you get that seat you have to face the pros in the main.  May as well get some practice in with them during the satellite.  Might not get your seat, but might learn a thing or two along the way.

deanp27:
they play for a living so they have to maximise ROI and sats are definitely soft as hell.

Dont agree with you Trav. You might as well say loaded players shouldnt enter big payout poker tournaments cause they are already loaded and dont need the money etc.

My brother once found himself in a 3 handed satellite with Todd Brunson. $12,000 package for 1st, $8000 cash for 2nd and zero for third. He recalls how the railers seemed to worship Todd appreciating his every play whether good or bad. I think this started to irritate my bro to some extent. Anyway it was about 3am they where 3 handed and my bro had recently lost the chip lead to Todd who had got lucky in a hand again, with cries of "well played" from sychophantic railers. So my bro gets KQ and raises and is called by Todd. The flop comes 10 high and my brother pushes in putting Todd to a decision for almost all his chips. Unfortunately for my bro Todd flopped trip 10"s and was called instantly to go out in 3rd place, accompanied by comments such as "awesome Todd", "You owned him" and so forth.  ::)

Not the avillan I know. Have you ever played satellites against him? I have many many times and I love to see him on my table. It"s a race to see if I can get his chips before someone else does cos he always busts out early. I"m sure it would be cheaper for him to just buy in direct.

do you not think this is part of his strategy?
