APAT Irish Satellites
Mikeyboy9361:
Carl makes a lot of very good points, you can tell he"s an Evertonian. I agree with the time between Sats, buy ins and events actually taking place being too distant, I find it very difficult to plan that far ahead, hence for one reason or another I haven"t played one live National this year.
As regards the venue situation, this is obvious;y a nightmare for "The Team" and they will resolve it to the best of there ability, but once again I agree the direct buy in should be delayed.
The England Team? Has it been selected, who is captain this year?

I"m a confessed "apologist" for APAT but I concede some frustration at events being announced without venues being 100% committed.
And yes I also see that, for Dublin no location had been confirmed so any unbreakable bookings were at the players own risk. It was for that reason I have a cancelleable hotel booking.
I do hope that for the remaining events where venues have been announced that these are locked down and guaranteed. If we lose one more venue it"s going to have a marked impact on the overall opinion of the membership on APAT as a whole.
On the satellites / buy-in front, the 2 months enables satellite winners plenty of time to book time off, save up for additional expenses such as hotels &/or travel. Equally, the 2 months enables our generous sponsors Betfair time to market seats to be won in freerolls or other specific promotions.
Personally, I don"t have a problem with lumping my money in 2 months in advance.
What many people seem to be missing is that buying direct is not compulsory the moment the tank is open.
It"ll stay open for some time...the old days of clickfesting at 9.00.30pm to ensure a seat are long gone. I don"t think we"ve had a full tank on the night at all in S4 (with the possible exception of DTD).

It"s a lot tougher this year with venues. Not sure why this is (I could talk about venues" attitudes to Poker, the financial climate etc etc but not 100% sure) but what was easy to arrange in seasons 1-3 is not proving so in season 4. Announcing a full season 4 schedule up front shouldn"t have been a problem on our prior experience, but now on two occasions we"ve hit roadblocks, at late stages. Very frustrating
The knock on of that is I would think for a Season 5 announcement we"d do our best to get a lot confirmed up front, albeit some of it at 9-12 months nitice.

If it was 2 months it would be better than the 6 months March to August, and, the Dublin event is more than 2 months, but would have been nearly 3 months...
Your reasons for having the buy-ins this far ahead dont really make sense. Saving up for traveling and hotels can still be done if the buy-in was the normal 1 month like it always has been. If I think I want to play Coventry at the end of November, and I need to save up to play, then I start saving when is apropriate, if, 1 month before the event, I dont satt, and I dont get a seat, then I have the benefit of some extra savings for something else or another APAT event. I dont need to know that I got a seat before making the money to play it.
I also do not agree with you regarding the clickfest night. How can you say that the buying direct is not compulsory and that it does not fill up... The Welsh event filled up all seats within 5 minutes. The Vic event filled up 90% of the seats immediately with the remainder within 24 hrs (iirc).. Austria, Aberdeen and Estonia have shown a distinct lack of interest. Your message that it is not compulsory implys, no rush, it never fills up immediately any more anyways, take a month or so more, it will be ok..!! So wrong..

This discussion has raged before. As I recall, a lot of people complained that "didn"t think about the event" until the buy-in date and then didn"t have enough time to save up and/or book time off. Opinions will differ of course but I think (personally ofc) that the balance is about right.

Either they fill up or they don"t...Wales v. Aberdeen For the most part they don"t fill immediately as far as I can tell.
It"s OK not to agree...I"m just expressing my opinion but my message is that it"s NOT compulsory UNLESS you want to GUARANTEE a seat there and then. If you want to take the risk of getting in later that"s a personal decision.
I"m not going to fret about the "loss" of £80 for an additional month or two, it not as though it was doing anything else.
Like I said...my opinion only.
