As always.

I had an idea today so I thought I"d best write it down, feel free to tell me why it won"t work. There seem to be plenty of players in this every year who make it through to the last 50, score points for their team but have no chance to make it to the team medals so only have the solo prize to go for. Likewise, there are always plenty of forums (fora?) who apply but don"t make the cut. Why not make it so that the top 10/15 teams in this year get automatically into next years event, while the rest have to playoff online, say 6-8 weeks beforehand,  for the remaining places along with the other teams who wish to enter, same format (8 players per team, screen names announced before the event) except that with online results every team member"s position could count. This way, everyone who scores points in the main event will be affecting their team, and also every forum interested has a chance of playing.

Well Rich, there"s something for you to chew on............   imo a decent concept.

Sure...but we"ve hashed this over before.

The only team (AFAIK) guaranteed a place are the previous year"s winners (Thank God).

EDIT: Except for, perhaps, an APAT Team.

Every forum/team has to re-apply and while there will be repeats they are all judged on what they can bring to APAT. Once again, this event is like no other in APAT (except, perhaps, for this year"s Pub Event).

It"s not about making the existing membership happy, it"s about bringing new people into the APAT fold.

Guaranteeing the top 10/15 teams from last year get in doesn"t do that.

Factor in that the "online" element suggested doesn"t work for forums that have drop-outs or want to have the option of picking from a larger player base and the whole thing falls apart.

Like I said, this has all been hashed over more than once.

I think the relegation/promotion idea is definitely worth considering.

If the bottom 3 teams were relegated it would give those who were definitely getting a place longer to plan and schedule, it would also guarantee that there would have to be a new mix of teams each year - without it being a completely new competition.

The online factor would be a worry though - primarily live teams plus teams with close affiliations to an online site which wasn"t the sponsor (Black Belt, Betfair, The Hendon Mob (maybe?)  for example) might have difficulty in getting a team of players to play for a competitor site - meaning once relegated they"d stay relegated.

I don"t see a problem with relegation of the bottom 3 teams and promotion decided by APAT management - i.e. similar to now but with guaranteed relegation and with longer for the teams definitely in to be able to plan.

Agree with the APAT forum team getting a wildcard (if needed)

And when you can"t get a full team from your forum, making up the balance of your team from APAT regs does?

Why can"t you pick 8 players from however large a player base you have? You"ll have to do it for the live event! As for dropouts, doesn"t every forum have a chance of that?

Like I said, this has all been hashed over more than once.

Jon, I see where you"re coming from but again I say, this isn"t a league or "top 10%" thing that APAT are running here.

Let us suppose that Larry Murphy"s ( ;D) experiences an explosion of members and they all love playing poker. Perhaps only one or two them have ever heard of APAT but (and this is the overriding factor) they all want to be involved where they haven"t been before.

By letting them in (perhaps ousting Blonde?) APAT might gain hundreds of new eager members.

Under any of the proposed schemes this just wouldn"t happen.

Forums/Teams don"t earn a place in this specific event by being the best at online poker or even live poker, it"s about growing APAT and the criteria for entry are completely different

I"m more than happy for Des/Richard decide on the best way forward on this type of event.

But you want to the whole forum to play the online element in the hope of being selected? What if only 4 of them are any good but finish well in the online...does the whole team get selected?
