I think the relegation/promotion idea is definitely worth considering.
If the bottom 3 teams were relegated it would give those who were definitely getting a place longer to plan and schedule, it would also guarantee that there would have to be a new mix of teams each year - without it being a completely new competition.
I don"t see a problem with relegation of the bottom 3 teams and promotion decided by APAT management - i.e. similar to now but with guaranteed relegation but with longer for the teams definitely in to be able to plan.

Jon, I see where you"re coming from but again I say, this isn"t a league or "top 10%" thing that APAT are running here.
Let us suppose that Larry Murphy"s ( ;D) experiences an explosion of members and they all love playing poker. Perhaps only one or two them have ever heard of APAT but (and this is the overriding factor) they all want to be involved where they haven"t been before.
By letting them in (perhaps ousting Blonde?) APAT might gain hundreds of new eager members.
Under any of the proposed schemes this just wouldn"t happen.
Forums/Teams don"t earn a place in this specific event by being the best at online poker or even live poker, it"s about growing APAT and the criteria for entry are completely different
I"m more than happy for Des/Richard decide on the best way forward on this type of event.

errrr really, did you read what I wrote?
Guaranteed relegation for the bottom 3 teams to be replaced with another 3 teams who may or may not have been a part of the team championships before.
How does that not meet your criteria?
EDIT: the only way it"s different is that most teams will know in advance they"ll be playing - it means that a whole set of 10 teams can"t be introduced in one year, for example, but how likely is that to happen anyway?

And when you can"t get a full team from your forum, making up the balance of your team from APAT regs does?

OK, you have me there but it was an exceptional situtaion. And thank God you did Paulie lol

Why can"t you pick 8 players from however large a player base you have? You"ll have to do it for the live event! As for dropouts, doesn"t every forum have a chance of that?

But you want to the whole forum to play the online element in the hope of being selected? What if only 4 of them are any good but finish well in the online...does the whole team get selected? How you select your team is up to you, play a prequalifier qualifier, pick your best online players then change them for the live event if you like, or some other way, its up to the team captain. All I"m saying is you"ll have to pick 8 for the live event from the whole forum regardless of size, why not the qualifier?

Because you seem to be saying that the online qualifier will decide whether your team gets in based on one or two results...and that doesn"t work for this event.
It won"t because it"s not about how good they are...it"s about expanding APAT.
Believe me, the current APAT membership is gagging to have a bucketload of new fish involved.

Not really, because, with all due respect, you"re missing my message.
This isn"t about being the best forum team, it"s about bringing new people to APAT.
What if blonde do really well at this years event but come next year there are only 10 of you posting in there but there"s a half a dozen new forums with 100k members gagging to get in?
What if you relegate a forum because they failed this year but they add 100k new users in the intervening 12 months?
At the moment, all but two teams are relegated and have to re-qualify under the criteria I"ve set out before. Isn"t that better?

Just to confirm, PuntersLounge have applied and would be honoured to play again
GL with the selections
