Seen a few comments about travelling recently and been on the disappointing end of travel difficulties myself. I recognise that a large number of APAT members are within easy access of a number of Southern/Midland venues. Could I suggest that venues near to major airport be considered for national championships. I am disappointed that Luton is hosting the team competition this year as it is a easily accessible from Scottish airports. I am not criticising, as I respect the great job that is done for us, just passing an observation for consideration for next years programme.

Hi Shug
We chose Luton for the forum Championships, in part, because it is easily accessible. I am not sure how it isn"t. You can get to Luton airport for under £100 return from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in under two hours via Easyjet, for example

Not meaning to answer for someone else or put words in his mouth, but I think you have misunderstood his point. I read it that he was complaining that the most easily-accessible venue was being used for an inter-forum tournament rather than being kept for a National Championship that the Scottish players would be more likely to attend.

Sorry, just to make things even worse, I live in between Liverpool and Manchester. For me, Cork is easier and cheaper to get to than Luton, and Cork is in a different country!
This just goes to show that one man"s easily accessible venue may be different than the second man. I understand what Shug is saying but at the end of the day, the Irish Nationals will always be in Ireland, never somewhere like Luton.

Jeez, is it his accent or something? The guy never mentioned the Irish Nationals.
And anyone who lives in the Manchester/Birmingham region can never complain about the location of venues.
KarmaDope:
No, he didn"t specifically say the Irish Nationals. However, from his post and others above (including yours, John) people are insinuating that we should use the most accessible venues regardless of country for the Nationals. My point was to show that this cannot be done as APAT won"t use English venues for Irish Nationals and vice versa.
And I"m not complaining, just showing that for some people, Luton isn"t the most accessible venue.
AMRN:
Jeez we have tournaments laid on in various cities around UK, Ireland, and Europe. Some will be easier to get to than others dependant on your home location. Some will be downright impossible or impractical for some people to get to.
If we want to avoid anyone having travelling difficulty we may as well just play online!! Alternatively, just accept that some places will be harder to get to than others, but that those places that are hard for some people to get to, will actually be easier for the locals to get to.
Aberdeen a couple of years ago - impossible for me to get to at a practical cost, so I didn"t go. Great for the locals though.

Didn"t know I had insinuated that - I must read my posts more carefully in future.

Liverpool to Luton isn"t too bad Adam - you"re too used to the short journeys to Coventry, Nottingham, Walsall, Blackpool, Manchester.......
