Luky and Chip build a bankroll
« on: May 18, 2009, 11:18:00 AM »
The title should be fairly self explanatory, but let me tell you how this came about.

It started as a chat on MSN about finding the time to play poker around the rest of your life and the most suitable games to fit in with that.  Luky suggested 6/8 seater STT's were most suited to his circumstances.  Chip made the point that these do not have a massive return unless you are going to play volume and suggested Luky play the Double Shootouts on PS ($10.70 + $1) that normally have between 40-70 runners during the week.  Therefore beat 4-7 players, make FT, better chance of winning seat ($215), cash it in for T$'s, job done.  Win a seat, 1 in 20 and you just about break even.  Worth a shot ?

So, the challenge was set.  We'd play 10 each and split the winnings/losses and review after this.  Chip got off to a flyer, winning a seat in his 2nd game. Luky was finding his feet, then in game 7 it all came good .  And again in game 8.  So, by game 10 for us both, this was the position :-

Games Played = 20
Cost = $234
Won = $645

So, onward and upward we trek, towards 20 games each.

Chip doesn't really want to talk about the next ten games, illness and variance means it's blanked from his memory. Luky, however, was running like a machine, picking his spots and getting in ahead most times.  He picked up another seat and a couple of cashes.  So, by game 20 for us both, this was the position :-

Games Played = 40
Cost = $468
Won = $915

Okay, so this is working well, at least one of us is winning and on a hand review, Chip's exit hands are significantly down to variance.  For those of a more strategic mind, you may well question this logic, but due to the structure of these tournaments, sometimes it can just come down to winning a 50/50 or 60/40.  If you don't win your fair share, it does hurt your stats quite badly.

So, where do we go from here ?

Well, we both have agreed that sharing the variance is good, having someone else focused on your results and railing, does help, so let's open this up.

We have a bit of a bankroll, so let's see where we can get it to, or back to zero where we started.   ;D

Any tourney, any site, any buy-in.  We'll post on here as we go along.

We will both carry on playing poker with our own bankrolls, but we will also play set games with the joint bankroll and share the highs, lows, cashes and most importantly, variance.

GL to us.

Chip is back

Played 4 tourneys this morning, FT"d 3 and got 1 seat.  I feel I"m doing my bit for the pot now, and not just taking all the negative variance.   ;D

Also playing a $33 tourney.  In the cash 10/32.

A good day to start this blog me thinks.   ;D

EDIT:  Finished 17th in $33.
