Tonight we play Gold N Ben in the quarter-final. They are, essentially, the Scottish team for the upcoming APAT internationals, which tells you all you need to know about the state of poker in Scotland.
They have a good opportunity, though, because they have caught us at our weakest point. Everyone on our team is away at a holiday camp on a poker weekend. We are trying to borrow enough dongles, etc to field as many players as we can. Some of our team will be playing whilst in a live tournament, though the wifi is bad in the main arena. Some will be playing from the bar, where there is a better signal. One may be playing on the motorway while travelling home.
I think we can cope with these difficulties. Sometimes in life, you have to struggle on. Shakira has faced many struggles in her life but has shown her fortitude. Her struggle to improve her English as an adult is well-known. She has also had to deal with tendonitis and muscular pain caused by bellydancing. But she overcame these obstacles. If we follow her example, we too can overcome ours.

However, her fight against other injustices continues, such as the unjust restrictions on children of illegal immigrants being allowed to attend public schools in Southern US states. Accepting an award from the Harvard Foundation, she said "Not everyone can study at Harvard University, but everyone, wherever they live, whatever their background, deserves a chance to make the most of his or her potential through education".
This week saw a terrible injustice that affected the Shakira team. However, people power won out in the end.
We came through another round of the cup last weekend, overcoming the powerful Gold N Ben team. We knew that this team had put in some strong performances previously, but we managed to win through and post a very high score in the end, going through to the semi-final and with team members occupying the top three places on the individual leaderboard.
