BAD RUN = BAD PLAYER ?
busman:
i can sympathise with you as i started playing around 5 yrs ago, only started on freerolls and 10c giveaways on VC to build a bankroll (tight jock) didnt put any of my own money in. ;D
it was the late last year the cold deck arrived and didnt go away until around July this year, like you i had to come all the way down the levels to save the bankroll, even now i still dont like going above the $10 stt level, bad vibes and still the outdraws as usuall. >:(
however i had to realise after looking at my stats and play that i was going in ahead in the majority of cases and being out drawn by worse hands :"( so it was not my play but others which you cant do much about, if they want to come with you with those worse hands then suck out on you, we have to accept it happens.
i have come to believe that as long as i go in ahead then i am playing a winning game 8)
i know this doesnt really answer your question but hope it gives you hope and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
for my live play practice i use the nutspokerleague, last two seasons i`ve been top of the pile in scotland on points. i do tend to play 2 or 3 times a week so that does help ;D but i did win my league last season and only lost this seasons league last night by 20pts :"(
hope your cards get warmer

Wayne, you"ve won an APAT online event and come second twice (I believe ?) - those are not the results of a bad player.
The only thing I can suggest is join in our home games before your luck changes ;D
In all seriousness, Biffa"s comments are worth looking at. It could also be that you"re not doing anything wrong at all. You"ve got to remember that you can still lose games without doing anything wrong.

Yes
i have also come 4th and 6th but all last year
i did take a break for about a week, drop down levels and i have gone back to playing ABC poker ( i don"t play 7 2 anymore ;))
Lets hope that the APAT on-line brings improvment for me

Lets hope ur at my table then lol
only joking, class is permanent form is temporary, tahts how i think it goes
take each hand one by one and you should know by now if your playing the hand correctly, thats the one plus, variance is easy to spot

I went through the same thinking, but came to a different conclusion.
In cash games, yes - putting your chips in when you"re ahead is rarely the wrong thing to do. If you are a much better player than the opposition, it could be argued that you can wait for a better spot that you know will come (of course, can you actually know you"ll get this opportunity?). Why risk a 55/45 when you know a 75/25 is just round the corner?
However, in tournaments you want to keep hold of your chips - especially early doors. Racing for your tournament life, even when you"re ahead might be a positive EV move in terms of the maths for that hand, but do you want to be risking your tournament life against a player you know you"re better than, when you can get hold of their chips with less of a risk.
I was doing the same thing during my bad run. I was putting myself at the mercy of variance, rather than avoiding these "coin flip" situations and getting my money in when I"m in a stronger situation.
Or am I talking nonsense. Again...

Table selection is another area to consider. It"s another area that I"ve been less careful about during my poorer months.
