goddelusion:
Will the seats for the speciality event also go on sale via the Betafir site. I shall be in Swansea for the whole weekend so would like to try and get a seat for both events if I"m lucky.

Nope...available in the casino only Sat/Sun, AFAIK. Priority MAY go to busted players from the main comp (although I doubt it).

Details on this are eagerly awaited.

"if they really want to", thats just it Chris they may not want to USE the internet, its personal preference.

As for people at the local casino getting in as an alternate, they have every right to become a member of APAT just like you and I did, and if there is a space available via an alternate on the day then I see no reason why that person can"t play, after all we all have to start as an APAT member somewhere.

It shouldn"t matter how or where you become an APAT member.

My belief to becoming a member is either by registering via APAT website, playing an online game gets you an auto membership, so therefore, playing a live game would make you an auto member also, even if it is the next day you sign up for the forum.

Many people travel down to the events in the hope of still getting into the tournament as an alternate, I"m talking regular APAT members who play, and a lot of them are successful but when the alternate list is opened and people put their name down, having a new local individual sign up can only be good for APAT overall as they hopefully will become a regular player, join in with the forum and be welcomed like everyone else to the APAT community.

As for the speciality series, I would imagine APAT will have an APAT members register first policy, but I can"t confirm that as I do not know.

Great post Mary, as you state it is all about spreading the word and encouraging others to participate, Internet literate or not.

CrizzyConnor:
Fair points Mary but i"m not discouraging anybody from joining, I"ve brought a good few members to APAT and referred to lots more. I realise we"ve all got to start somewhere but when I joined I thought the registration process was by joining the forum (that was feedback I got at time of joining) and I did so before playing any APAT event. It doesn"t really matter anyway, APAT will always be growing I just think there should be some set out way of registering prior to playing. Like I said, my main gripe is with the specialist series as I thought this was introduced as an event for APAT members who had travelled and made arrangements to be there for two days but had went out in first day. I don"t even think these events should be closed off to outside players I just think APATers should be given priority to get on the list for these games should they not progress past day 1.

AJDUK:
If you give APAT players priority the games will be full before we arrive, or at least by the end of ME day 1.

By allowing locals to register for an event on an equal footing does in some way recompense them for having their card room overrun for the weekend by what might be perceived as a closed shop. Perceived being the operative word of course coz I"m not saying we are. "I come here week in week out and now I"m told I can"t play....."

I do think this is also a great way of spreading the word and increasing the membership.

It was fun in the team championship day 2 mixing with the locals on THEIR sunday afternoon game. I think this should work both ways. Keep it open.
