I do still play cricket, standing at slip and bowling a few overs of leg spin is hardly pushing any boundaries!!

Cheers Phil, all tip advice :) cutting out beer is my main thing once again I feel. Last time I lost weight (2 stones) I stopped the beer and moved on to vodka diet coke, which helped, so will probably try that again.
If you ever fancy coming for a run then let me know, a man with your half-marathon experience could teach me a lot :)

Good luck with this Stu - awesome personal challenge, and even better when it benefits such a good cause.
Phil mentions the early weight losses - these really are easy if you just make one simple (??) adjustment.... stop drinking alcohol, and the weight will fall off in the early days. It"s once your body rebaselines that the next phases are really tough.

I lost 7 stone in 7 months.
Now obviously you"re not the man I am but I"m sure you could manage a stone a month - if you want it to be challenging :)
The tenets of my regime were:
2000 kcals/day,
weigh everything & record calorie intake - no cheating,
walk 4 miles per day as fast as possible (I"d prolly be running now though :) ) trying to beat my best time.
Jaxie will sponsor you 50p/lb.

Good luck with this Stu..
Why not have a chat with that nice Mr Dale ;D maybe he can set up a charity tournament on BOSS open a justgiving page and we can donate to your cause there, I will donate hell I will even donate a Bounty prize for whoever knocks you fat head out of the tournament :-*.
Another incentive maybe if you lose 4 stones you will end up with a perfectly toned sexy figure like mine!!

Hell of a target you"ve set yourself there Stu - but it"s for a really good cause and with that motivation I bet you can do it.
I can"t offer any weight loss tips (obviously!). In fact I even put weight on when I trained for my first GNR. Lots of running meant I was eating like a horse - more so than normal. ;) But I"ve had my share of knee issues too, so any help/advice you need with the running, just ask! I"ve got a 12 week half marathon training plan that works for me - but everyone"s different. You can give it a try, and adapt it as you go. Let me know if you want it.
One thing I would say is get a good pair of running shoes asap. Go for gait analysis to a specialist running shop if you can. Up and Running in Darlington sorted me out, and was the best investment I made. Nasty knee and shin pain went away when I got the right shoes. They videoed my running and noted I over-pronated when running so needed stability support. Made a big difference.
Good luck buddy!
